All those stories we've enjoyed of them going at each other are way out of character. Well there are people inside the robots, but basically it's just about action that you can't have on an average human scale. Usually the drama revolves around the political stuff going on around the robot fights, but each installment handles the politics differently, some better than others.

The fight was more about the pilots tho. Since the minovsky particle pretty much cut the battle tactic into close range insanity the interaction is pretty much more intense.

For example, people care more about ReGZ unit when it was piloted by Amuro before Nu delivered to Lond Bell. When it was handed to that blonde pilot girl no one care that much when she got murdered except for Stoneage but that because they are a couple.

It depends to how you use them, I absolutely agree with that. The problem comes from the knowledge and experience many of us already have with them.
OC is based off existing character but has one difference, used as a projection or self-insert for the author most of the time, and primarily ONLY for autistic shipping(as if there's any other kind).

Self-insert and shipping are definitely the pitfalls that give them a justified stigma. Jesse was guilty of that, but I wouldn't say it exactly got out of control at all (other than the meme surrounding the creator).

In the fics I've written and am considering writing, OCs mostly take the form of friends of the sisters that are used to help flesh out their lives outside of the house, and they're usually relegated to fairly minor appearances. So far it hasn't caught flak, but it's always a concern when they show up.

Hey. Sort of joining mid conversation, but speaking from experience, sometimes you do need a certain role to be filled, either by an OC or a character acting somewhat out of character.

In We Have Each Other, there are two OCs in Act 1. One that is Lori's boss and another that is Lincoln's school counselor (although we will probably change that to Dr. Lopez retroactively next time she comes up). The story benefits from characters in a role of authority or experience over Lori and Lincoln because otherwise the audience is just being thrown into a universe with little to no exposition (and exposition is not inherently a bad thing so long as it's subtle). OCs can and should be used to make a story more interesting, and limiting one's self to a set cast is just that: limiting one's self.

All that said, I can understand people's distaste for OC. Let's just say that through the entirely of all fanfiction, they have a pretty bad reputation.

Story and interactions are rough, you set up for a conflict that doesn't seem to be happening as it's happening. It doesn't seem like it's going anywhere but I enjoy the concept.

You might also want to explain Lori's motivations, it isn't really clear why she left or why she's acting the way she does. Same with Lincoln and Luna/Luan. Shouldn't Lincoln be more shocked to see her? Angry? Upset? Sad even? He's had 12 years to rationalize their disappearance and since we know they all think Lori and Lily died his reaction is pretty underwhelming.
