That's the problem with all interesting series. The best part is always near the beginning when you notice that things aren't really what they seem to be. After explanations happened stuff is always getting more normal. We're basically just waiting for the time when the CGs will finally confront YD or who ever the enemy is.

It is probably Sapphire or Sardonyx at this point but I am going to say Peridot since I still love her from the first two and a half seasons.
Peridot felt realistically lost and vulnerable in her redemption arc in a way that I really loved.
She played off of the CG pretty well and I liked how she learned a lesson from each one.
Then Beta happened and all of that shit went out the window.

I think one of the biggest problems is that the PoV can't ever be detached from Steven.
I know this was the concept they had in mind in the beginning and it was good but it doesn't really work now with different parties, barn mates, homeworld and all the other characters. We won't get any more diamond related scenes if Steven doesn't go to space for some reason.
