Given how humans are in Undertale; squishy and weak as fuck usually, but can do insane things under certain circumstances because of determination.

What's the continuity for the I, Undyne stories? There seem to be differences from the regular Undertale setting (besides the adult human, of course)

I was kind of torn about the first one as a self-contained story, but now that the plot has been expanded upon I look forward to them the most.

Undyne starting off as a bit of a mean, distant prick and then showing the gradual progress of the relationship is neat.
There's more room for character progression, in my opinion. What with her being a human hunting, militaristic brute in the beginning and slowly warming up.

Heck I wish I could draw that good consistently. Sometimes I look at some of my older stuff and think "Did I really draw that? I don't really know how I did that".

For example, I remember drawing this one basically in a trial and error way for about 3 hours with the mouse while shifting and redrawing her torso and arm a lot but I wouldn't really know how to draw the same kind of body from a different pose. It's just guesswork.

I think you're giving them way more credit than they deserve. I've been on /utg/ since the beginning of last year and I haven't seen a single content creator quit /utg/ because of anons except Crocodiletears and maybe Skull. This is 4chan after all. Cry occasionally takes insults personally and Jelly also has a bit weak self esteem but it's not like they don't still come to /utg/.

I don't know why this keeps getting brought up here because I thought it was always obvious that I'm writing for the Undyne thread, not for /utg/. I go on /utg/ so infrequently that I wouldn't have even known they were saying anything about me if someone from there hadn't emailed me and apologized about it, no joke. Either way, though, you have to realize that for an artist there's no such thing as bad publicity. As long as people are talking about you, you're winning. All you have to do then is do things authentically, do things that actually mean something to you, and people will be able to see the passion you're putting into your work, even if some or most can't see or appreciate that. How do you think Andrew Dobson still gets mentioned without fail in every [spoiler]lol[/spoiler] thread on /v/? Because even though he's a terrible artist and a horrible human being, people keep talking about him, even if it's just to make jokes. I guarantee that for every disparaging comment I've gotten on /utg/ there's at least one person who read one of my stories linked there and liked it.

As for the actual content of what they're saying, I've tried to make it clear what I'm trying to do with Undyne and what my reasons are for going in such a different direction with her than the game has her doing. If people don't agree with that or don't want to look at that fairly, that's up to them. I just write; once I'm done and I post whatever people can have any reaction they want. I guess I mostly disagree with what they're saying, I don't think that I really give Alphys such a bad rap and I don't think I make Undyne really incredibly weak and needy either, I just try to portray her as more of a human being, but that's just my perspective. I'm so close to all of these stories that of course I know exactly what I meant to come across even if it doesn't always succeed, like that one story where people thought I meant Undyne lost her eye in a makeup accident. If people hadn't pointed that out I wouldn't have seen it and fixed it.

What always does amuse me though is how people seem to think that 'you' is some sort of godlike self-insert mary-sue when really I was just trying to write someone completely generic and unobjectionable because the stories aren't about 'you,' they're about Undyne. The central focus has always been Undyne, no matter what set dressing in terms of characters or locations I dress her up in, it's about Undyne and her reactions and emotions and my interpretation of them. If anyone's a self-insert it's probably Undyne herself haha.

Anyway I guess the point is that if you don't like what I'm writing, tell me so I can change it. You guys are good about that but because I'm not part of /utg/ it's easier for them to just nitpick rather than say what they would actually like me to write. I wouldn't mind doing requests for them but that's never seemed to be something they're interested in.

I know it's fun to gossip but it really doesn't matter what /utg/ is saying, they're entitled to their opinions of my stuff and I'm just grateful people are reading it, even if it's not their cup of tea.

Pfft hah, a bit cringy but I guess it's a positive thing that they cared. It's kind of dumb in a way though since it wouldn't even matter to you unless someone kept bringing it up. I suppose they're just afraid that you'll see it on your own, take it personally and stop writing or something dramatic like that.

As for the Alphys and 'you' accusations, I'm fairly certain that they're just making assumptions based on horrible fandom clichés and what people are saying about your fics without having actually read them. That and they're just rabble rousing for fun. Personally I think you're very reasonable with what you write and your reasoning has been sound so far.
