Mae's derealization episodes could be explained that way too. If we're going with the supernatural explanation, the giant animals and stuff might be like the Celestial Animals from Okami or something, just large powerful things from another world, and the Black Goat messing with Possum Springs has caused some kind of barrier between worlds to weaken to the point that people (and Mae) wander there in their sleep. Eventually the Black Goat's meddling causes too big of a tear and things that even they're afraid of now have a chance to get in, so the Cat Being finally seals it up.

Assuming Mae doesn't commit suicide out of grief and also because of her mental issues, she would probably hang out with Gregg a lot more, and their shenanigans together might cause them to get arrested, ruining The Plan, and potentially causing Gregg and Angus to break up. A Mae route would probably involve her financial issues because of the Killer incident and the mortgage, unless not going to college made that work out.

I cant stop playing this game
I'm this close to starting my third play through in 3 days to see more of the stuff that I haven't seen yet. This is the first game I've beating in months, even though it barely has gameplay too it, and I have never replayed a game immediately upon beating it.
I just love the characters so much, I got drawn the first time I played and felt like I was interacting with real people (which really made mae's explanation of her breakdown resonate with me, in a way I thought was kind of ironically funny)
When I'm not playing this game I find myself either wishing I were playing it, or just feeling Dysphoric that I don't have the kind of life Mae has, which is really weird because my life is better than that by a landslide.
I guess its just the cozy feeling of a nice small town and a group of 3-4 friends that love each other so much.
