The general idea is a dryad afflicted with lycanthropy, so her usually nature-loving self is conflicting with the new aggressive hunter in her, leading to some sort of perpetual whyboner moment over being stuck between "Love and Peace" and "Rip and Tear!". Tends to favor the former, but the latter comes out when she gets worked up over something. Adventurers in need count as something.
In the sap form she's fine but generally useless since she has all the physical strength of a bowl of old gelatin. Only other real downside is that if her "shell" is left alone for a while it goes feral and fucks off to do werewolf stuff.

Nothing wrong with going for the classics. I went for more of a Lovecraft angle where mine are part of a brood of humans exposed to something called the Mother Tether that warped their forms and combined them with the cloth.
