As someone who doesn't have any interest in the Pack Street shipping wars but enjoys watching from the sidelines, I feel the need to get this off my chest: I find, by volume, the Sheepdog shippers to be the most vocal and also the most defensive about their pairing of choice, with Charmy shippers as a close second.

Sheepdoggers seem to shout down any contrary opinion about who Remmy has natural synergy with. When asked for reasons why they support their ship so vehemently (despite scant evidence in canon indicating Remmy and ANYONE have chemistry), the typical Sheepdogger doctrine seems to be "Remmy needs a strong, caring, nurturing, strong, supporting, lovable, wonderful, strong woman in his life who Betty is and none of the other characters fulfill this criteria because I said so".

And while I'd like to say this is hyperbole for the sake of comedy, there was a post several threads back that read almost exactly like this:

Curiously, I've found that Remmy HIMSELF is often almost inconsequential in almost any shipping debate. Sheepdoggers propose Betty because Remmy "needs" someone to "keep him on the straight and narrow", but if anyone even IMPLIES that Sheepdog MIGHT have shades of Oedipus/mother-son wish fulfillment they're immediately shut down.

Charmy shippers don't seem much better in terms of their dogmatic support of their ship, their frequent arguments again being less about how Remmy and Charlie work together and more "no she's not autistic at all", with sprinkled-in personal attacks on Sheepdog (which in turn solicits personal attacks from Sheepdog on them, thus fueling a never-ending cycle).

What I find most interesting, though, is the other off-the-beaten-path ships don't seem to suffer from this at all.

What I think is weird is that so many of these ships seem to come from the perspective of Remmy.

'Remmy needs ____' or 'Remmy clearly has feelings for _______'. Very rarely do people stop and think that most of the girls don't have any interest in him romantically. Not to say this can't change, but only a couple have shown (even a hint of) interest, and some have flat out said they're not interested at all.

Not to say 'don't ship Remmy with any of the girls'. Please do it's entertaining to read these discussions, but acting like your ship is more legitimate than any other is kind of silly considering the circumstances.

The funny thing is I'd absolutely believe this if you were talking about Avo instead of Betty. Avo shows all of the hallmarks of wearing a facade, but I don't at all get the impression Betty's some caramel-centered softie-sweet looking for a big, strong ram to come along and sweep her off her feet. If anything, I think she's a "what you see is what you get" type, intended to be this way in stark contrast to Al. Remmy out-and-out pegged Al as a blisteringly stupid "failed, washed up dumb jock" in the very first chapter only to have that impression turned around on him in a heartbeat.
