Portal was buried. Izumi describes having to climb out when she first ported to modern dragon times.

Bloodied bandage isn't Reza's. We don't know who's it is. Maybe Izumi, maybe not.

Izumi had to have been cloning herself. The technology to do this is available to her, and so is the ability to rapidly teach a clone using an implant. I don't think we've seen the true Izumi. The color changes could be a result of imperfect rapid cloning or some other consequences of producing potentially thousands of clones.

The writing around the portal is a bit clunky, but the idea is when you go back not everything comes with you. Only things consistent across timelines seems to stick. And remember we haven't seen every iteration, just the ones we played. It's implied that there have been hundreds+ attempts. So random bullet holes don't come back probably because the placement of them varies between iterations. Objects come back more easily because it's always exactly the same object. Memories are fuzzy things like bullet holes, but memories don't heal, so if 1% of a memory comes back each time, eventually you'll have a basic picture of events.
The whole "where did all this shit come from" bit is glossed over. Classic hammerspace inventory management typical of most games.

You didn't ask about the graveyard, but it really bothers me. I don't think Saunders is dumb enough to get something so wrong about a technology he made up, so I've been rationalizing it and I think I understand what he was going for. Others can remember things too, not just mc, so it stands to reason that going back doesn't undo everything perfectly. If Izumi unknowingly puts each body in exactly the same place, it could behave like an object taken through the portal. Because it's static it becomes part of the world and persists back. I'm really grasping at straws here though.

It's canonical. The backer didn't write the dialogue, he just supplied the character's model, personality and "backstory". The lecture on spacetime might have been reviewed and edited by the backer, but Saunders clearly retained full creative control over anything tying into the overall story.

I'm currently attempting to draw Adine smut and I noticed in this pic >>7969588 that both of her "outer" claws point to the right. Does that mean that she has 4 "toes" per foot (2 front and 1 on each side) or is it a mistake by the artist?

Had the same problem when looking at references for Anna's feet; toe placement is very inconsistent. Some have a claw at the back-middle, some have four toes at the front, some have non-euclidean feet that would drive a man insane were he to stare too long.

I absolutely love the writing in the game, but the lore regarding the portal was just a complete mess, easily the worst part of the game. Yes, even Kevin wasn't as bad.
Seriously, I'll be the first to admit that scifi doesn't have to be 100% scientifically correct to be enjoyable, but these theories with the black holes and stuff, it's just... wrong.
It rocketed completely beyond my ability of suspending disbelief. The working theory of the portal was all over the place and unintuitive. And the video game analogy, oh my God just why?!
The parts about the higher self and superego were bearable, but still required some mental gymnastics to apply them to the overall plot.
Should the modding tools ever come out, and I happen to find the time, rewriting all that exposition will be a top priority of mine.

Seriously, Saunders, if you ever happen to read this; get someone to write your science fiction lore for you, writing characters is obviously your forte, and this clearly isn't.
I'm sure someone with even a remote interest in physics and the likes can come up with a more plausible theory on how the portals work that still fits in the story.

I did a lot of reading between the lines to try and get at what Saunders was thinking. Yes, very clunky inconsistent writing around the tech, but the concept is neat. He should have left out the pseudoscience explanation and just been like "we have literally no idea how this thing works. It probably does something like x, y, z, but we have no real theories". I just wrote off the black hole stuff as wrong and looked past it. Plenty of disbelief suspension all around.
