Feels kind of weird that the Endtown folk apparently saw the whole ship arc but nobody seems to have batted an eye at the news that there's no virus.
>>
>>7935027
How is that sideways pose even remotely "running" (bipedal or digitigrade legs)? All the flying tears and flounce lines don't fix this.

Am I being autistic here or does anyone else see the problem?
>>
>>7945923
>but nobody seems to have batted an eye at the news that there's no virus

…this is the part where I have to go back and reread the entire last 4 months before asking a question that results in being told to go back and reread the entire last 4 months, isn't it.
>>
>>7946532
No, it does look like there's something downright bizarre going on with her legs.

>>7946536
Wally was told by the ship AI that the scans it took showed there was no mutagenic virus, so the people who had for ages (and for various reasons) been taking it as a given that the force that causes mutation was not an actual virus were correct.

We kind of got stiffed on the answer of what it actually is, though.
>>
>>7946571
>the force that causes mutation was not an actual virus
We took it for granted that your state of consciousness affects your transformation and so far haven't seen evidence to the contrary.

> this all started happening after The War
Inductive reasoning is necessary to survive but it also fosters post hoc fallacies. The thing is, if The War wasn't responsible for the mutation, what was?

Speaking of assumptions, it's been a while since I read the entire series, did we ever get an answer to where dittos came from? Were they another government project gone awry, or is there some other, stranger explanation for them that ties into anthropomorphic mutation?
>>
>>7946665
>We took it for granted that your state of consciousness affects your transformation and so far haven't seen evidence to the contrary.
No we were outright told that by Aaron. People had been assuming the not-a-virus thing for ages based on it being obviously supernatural due to the mass-shifting and acting too fast to be an actual virus and so on.

>The thing is, if The War wasn't responsible for the mutation, what was?
Oh, no, we've known for a while now that the mutations were happening before the war, the last arc just showed it (Sparkplug's flashback did too). In fact it'd be more accurate to say the mutations were responsible for the war, seeing as it started as an attempt to nuke the source of the supposed "virus" off the face of the planet.

>Speaking of assumptions, it's been a while since I read the entire series, did we ever get an answer to where dittos came from? Were they another government project gone awry, or is there some other, stranger explanation for them that ties into anthropomorphic mutation?
Literally "Aliens!", if the Lucranians count (despite being human for all intents and purposes - they may be from a particular reality where humanity lucked its way into multiverse hopping tech and then more or less evolved culturally into the Endtown version of the Ferengi).

The dittos are a 3D display element used by Lucranian ship AIs, as was suggested at the end of the Rocket Arc. It seems the wild population in the Great Waste are all descended from the ones aboard the crashed ship.
>>
>>7946758
So that brings us back to where the mutations are coming from, which I'm guessing didn't happen across all realities Marx has been to. Was this Eye's idea of an experiment?
>>
>>7946758
>being obviously supernatural
Then what does wearing a hazmat suit do to ward off the transformation if it's supernatural in nature?

Suddenly the shitposts in the /co/ thread have a very familiar tone to them...
>>
>>7952251
Point them out, please.
>>
>>7946880
Who knows. It probably has something to do with being aware of being "infected". Lyn didn't mutate until he saw that Holly transformed. Holly didn't mutate until she saw Ethel. They didn't know the first horror they met used to be human so they weren't aware of the infection by then.
>>
>>7952212
I'd say there's a difference between "giving a pep talk in a stern tone" and "tackling an eyewitness who just had a traumatic experience".

Actually... I wonder, Dottie and Holly both had that tiny determined lady man-organizing thing going on. I wonder if they were both inspired by the same person?
>>
>>7952733
Belief or something like it having a protective power could also explain the Typhoid Maries.

>Late to the party seeing mutants
>"This is a virus?"
>"It's been around this long and I'm not infected!?"
>"I must be immune!"
>Belief in immunity protects them

IIRC Aaron said TMs can still mutate, they just haven't yet.

>>
>>7946854
It looks like the multiple current-day Endtowns thing has been discarded, at least. The AI said the Endtown reality is an anomaly, as it exists alone in the middle of a streak of many, many utterly dead worlds where WWIII was still fought with zero weaponry but nobody survived... and it was fought over resource shortages, not mutation, to make things even more mysterious.

So there might be other Endtowns on other "rungs" of the ladder of time, but you can consider Marx having reached sideways into an Endtown where there was Leonardo Da Vinci brand gum to have been retconned, I guess.

Unfinished stuff of Penny and a lesser drawn, high school chick named Julie who was high on ecstasy when she turned. When I showed Aaron a lineup of my cast, she was his favorite.
>>
>>7973103
Very cool stuff. I like Julie's design, especially the elements that suggest she's trying to look at herself as attractive despite the crazy mutation.

This also reminds me that we've seen adults and we've seen what seem to be primary school age children in Endtown, but I can't recall seeing any that were obviously of middle or high school age. For that matter, I can't remember if we've even seen if Endtown has a schooling system, though I think it might have been mentioned in an email.

Unfinished scenery of Mana and Penny doing some reconnaissance. What became it's 'final' name Ashfall was in reference to, was I figured that the aftermath of WW3 would generate a nuclear winter that would last years. A constant element of it was how much ash was in the air, and at times they had to wear masks (which is what Mana is holding in her left hand).
>>
>>7973910

Yup. They weren't acquainted before, but their mutations and the war brought them together. Also some partly colored portions of some of the first drawings of Mana.
>>
>>7974380
Interesting to see how both your style and the look of the character have changed over time.

Is Mana going to be used for anything in the near future?
>>
>>7974866
That honestly remains to be seen. It's not impossible, since she wasn't originally written for Endtown, actually. She was going to be in something vaguely similar in premise called Posthuman I was toying with, once upon a time.
>>
>>7974923
I hope we see her in a story some day, then.

Care to give us the low-down on Posthuman?
>>
>>7974999
Semi-futuristic setting, with sort of the same technology from the old X-com and Shadowrun, but the, 'mutations' were more of a form of designer genetics. In some ways similar to After the Bomb, but with more cyborgs. There's also a goofy cd-i game called Bodyslam: Mutant Rampage that it would have been comparable to. Only the protagonists wouldn't be 'naturals'. I didn't get around to drawing any of it at the time, what with the QA job I had, then. Mana herself was named/conceived while I was testing some Ikari warriors type game on XBLA, while listening to Judas Priest's cover of Green Manalishi.
>>
>>7975217
I could revive it as a side theme for the zanier design ideas I know I could conjure, that wouldn't fit in my current project, Shining Sky.
>>
>>7975217
Some damn good taste in games, there. Now I can't help but wonder what action girl Mana would look like in the classic comic-book-style X-Com Personal Armor...

Guess the case is gonna be all about Walt roughing them up.

But while it looks like the wolves are winning now, I doubt that there aren't more people like Heather all around town. Poor Dottie is gonna be on the wrong side when this blows up.
>>
>>7986496
Until it turns out it's only a minority of wolves engaging in pig-pestering, who are just patsies and stooges for the real enemy causing the pig disappearances. I can see a sort of wholesale scapegoating wolf/predator exile thing, perhaps with a publicly-unpopular viewpoint character (Dottie the journalist? Walt the predator?) being tossed out with them, and then the real culprit behind the mystery rears his/her head and enacts phase two of whatever the plan is, and the divided MCs of the arc have to reunite to take him down. Or maybe they just stay bitterly divided and everything goes wrong - this is Endtown after all...

Yikes.

It's almost like most of us have recognized Neathery's completely lost his way and will repeat the same type of storyline indefinitely without any real progression or a conclusion in mind, except possibly Marx ex machina
>>
>>8021472
He established that this is the third act of the first half. He doesn't sound as lost as you say.

If you're going to make your own webcomic with its own premise, for the love of christ have an actual ending in mind and progress towards it or you'll just end up like Neathery

In before it's actually Marx scapegoating the wolves for some convoluted "Greater Good" reason and the mysterious and seemingly unwitnessed pig disappearances are down to him fooling them into thinking they're going to be eaten and then portaling them somewhere else right out of their own homes (also for the "Greater Good").

Meanwhile Jackrabbit is up to something completely different, or taking advantage of the social repercussions while not actually knowing why any of it is happening.

Why do you stay here? What do you gain from this other than being a prick?
>>
>>8026784
He has an ending in mind, apparently. I recall Aaron saying Endtown would wrap up in 9 years or so.

The chance to be confused for other anons, I guess?

I'm giving you advice most people beginning a webcomic need badly and your response is "triggered." Nice.

I just wonder since when did Jacob become such a power-hungry, manipulative bastard when he was previously portrayed as a mouthy, but ultimately cowardly little shit who couldn't back up his words with actions and didn't seem to aim as high as gaining control of entire Endtown.
>>
>>8032488
I noticed that too. He seemed to get a spine and wit transplant in between arcs.

I think the answer, frankly, is "When the author needed him to", kind of like Cooper but much milder and not a total reinvention.
>>
>>8032543

It still makes you wonder *what* caused this sudden change. Cowards don't suddenly become power-hungry scheming bastards without some kind of explanation. If they do then it's shitty writing.

It's especially jarring since it seems not much time has passed between the first arc (Al and Gustine's quest) and second arc (Wally's introduction).
>>
>>8032570
IIRC, Aaron said Wally and Holly's first arc is actually supposed to have happened more or less at the same time as Al and Gustine's adventure out in the waste.

Obviously by the time of the Milk Trial Al and Gustine have been back for a while, though, because by then Wally and Holly have been together for... two years, I think? Looks like there was a lengthy time skip at some point in the narrative that as far as I can recall was never really obviously indicated and has to be inferred from dialogue after the fact.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
