This is my biggest problem with AUs. Or one of my biggest problems. If you're going to do an AU, you had better nail the characterization as well as the original material does.

Even if the writing is good (and Sunderance is not good writing), if the characters aren't, you know, in character, you might as well be telling a totally different story. Sometimes this is unintentional. These are fanfiction writers, after all.

But sometimes - as looks to be the case with Sunderance - a writer is more interested in telling their own story. And it comes across as really fucking crass to bolt the canon characters onto it for brand recognition - or worse, to bend them to fit as your main characters, like when """"Nick"""" kills a tiger with his bare paws.

Bonus Really Fucking Crass points: Kulkum and the artist are actually profiting from the trainwreck with a patreon. That's more on the fandom having zero discernment or taste, but still.
