Nintendo confirmed the Switch won't have SNES games or other kinds of classic-game emulation. That might change in the future, but at launch it won't have any. I really really want to love this console, but Nintendo seems to be doing everything in their power to snap defeat from the jaws of victory. THEY themselves demonstrated how powerful nostalgia could be with that NES-box they sold recently. They know how many of us man-children there are out there who will pay money to play the classics.

To be fair, the Switch is using a completely new architecture compared to previous consoles. They're not going to be able to just plug in the old code, do a few tweaks, and release it to the customers. They are surely working on it but it's going to take time. I'm guessing by the time the holiday season comes around we're going to have all of this missing content that people are complaining about.

I would genuinely buy one, but with the Canadian dollar being so weak right now, the prices are just insane. The console itself will be 400$ CAD. I know it's all fair, they're not gouging us, they're just readjusting costs to match the exchange rate. But still... it ends up being a lot of money.

This is really the thing that made me decide I'm getting a Switch sometime in early/mid March.

I probably won't be able to get on until like the 14th since I didn't pre-order, but that's still before the testfire, so it's fine.

I can picture it working. You go to the store to check it out and see 20 Switches in stock, one is even open on display so you can try it out. You play around for a bit and decide, "Eh, it's alright but I don't need it right now."

Whereas, in the other situation you go to the store and the clerk says "Sorry, sold out in the first hour." In the back of your mind you're thinking "Shit! I missed out, it's in such high demand it must be amazing." Then you spend a week or a month thinking about how great it's going to be until they finally restock. If this scheme gives them even a 10% boost in sales, they'll do it. It would be artificially increasing demand.
