What's the name for something like a sphinx that isn't quite anthro, isn't quite taur, and isn't quite feral?
Because this thread is for that.
you have my interest...
I've heard the term demi-fur or semi-anthro. Also nymph, because apparently those mythical creatures often came in strange shapes like these. But I admit neither of those really "fit".
This shit is fucking hot

Problem is you faggots, going to hate both my explanation, and most art that i could possibly post in here (not too mention that im bit busy right now)
>>7827835
what the fuck are you talking about
>>7828733
The mods over on e641 are kind of crazy. They stirred up a huge shift storm a while back over "tagging what you see". So for example a herm character with their crotch hidden needs to be tagged as female. When users of the site point out the inconsistencies in these sort of decisions, they start foaming at the mouth and double down. This is something similar. Because tagging it would be slightly inconvenient, we all must pretend this genre doesn't exist. It's feral and/or anthro. And anyone who disagrees with that is just factually incorrect.
>>7829079
Well that's retarded.
>>7826561
I always found that demi-fur is more when you have an animal half bellow the waist, full human above, like a satyr.
That being said, I don't have any suggested alternative for what the sphinx type could be...
I think the word you're looking for is "Chimera".
>>7833212
That one could work... unfortunately no one appears to be using it in that context. It seems to be being used more as a synonym to hybrid. Especially in a hodge-podge manner, rather than a smooth mix of two things.
>>7825456
>What's the name for something like a sphinx that isn't quite anthro, isn't quite taur, and isn't quite feral?
A Sphinx?
Isn't it just a sphinx?
>>7834153
>>7834245
That's fine if you're looking for the winged-lion kind, but what if you want one that's based on a dog, or a cheetah, or a weasel? There are pics of that out there, but they're not tagged as anything because there isn't really a term for it. At least not yet.
>>7834592
Or a scaled equine.
bump for future interest
>>7834592
Spinxes and other creatures which combine pure human anatomy with pure animal anatomy are monster girls. Or just monsters.
>>7837534
Again, not a search-able tag we can really work with... But I get it, the content is so rare that it hasn't warranted coming up with a distinct tag. Still, it's annoying because there is stuff out there.
Thankfully, there are plenty of normal sphinxes for us to enjoy.
>>7832611
>I'd just call it a sphinx.
Can you not, though? That kind of thinking is what lead to the propensity for people to add -sune to the end of an animal's name as a shorthand for, "magical, possibly shapeshifting animal person," and what lead to people referring to anything with the front end of a bird, regardless of what the back end is, even if it actually has a name of its own(see: hippogryph; front half bird, back half horse) as a, "gryphon."
You're going to end up with dogs/foxes/horses/whatever else with human faces, and people calling them, "sphinxes," with this logic.

Not really. Even normal sphinxes are pretty rare. Especially if you want lewds of them.
>>7825456
>>7834592
Just use the dominating species as a prefix. Dog-sphinx, rat-sphinx, lizard-sphinx. That's probably the closest you're going to get to a proper "term".
>>7825456
Either a general term like sphinx like you used or most likely you'll have to come up with an original name for each individial unique hybrid. The first human headed lion was The Sphinx.
>>7826561
Nymphs are more plant nature spirits then animal human hybrids. You're probably thinking of fauns or satrys.
>>7833212
Chimeras could work as it's just any two or more species mashed together. Although most works that feature chimeras have few or zero human parts, especially human heads.
>>7840098
Those would be a Harpy and Naga, respectively.

yes, it is feral, it is also a sphinx
And yet i somehow dont see complains about posting Anthro sphinxes in this thread
<< this is actually most classic look for sphinx thats possible, what OP is asking is abomination of the sphinx, cos tits are NOT obligatory on female ones.
If OP want so feral bodies, more "cats with human heads" then sphinxes, he should not complain about getting "full feral" sphinxes
For some reason also "taur" sphinxes are popular in fantasy (without even one classic sources showing them like that)
i guess this is more "normie" look, cos theres a serious part of woman in here, and they dont look so "uncany valley" then
Worth a bump.

i allready claimed that you are going to hate my posts - cos Op is simpleton wanting some quick fap material, when im quite willing to deliver some lecture and classic art, on topic of sphinxes and similiar creatures (im also posting top quality /tg/ sphinxes)
im quite torn about sphinxes like that, cos they look a lot like winged wemics (or lion-taur)
The only diffrence is that in this case upper part is still human, wemic are pure lion
>>7849305
bruh, you better not know the source of that pic, or im going to hate you like all fucks
>>7864338
Subnormality is shit.
Whatever you call them, I love the human headed, animal limbed design.
sphinxes are super complicated creatures, with bit too many meaning, and riddles/methaphor associated too them
You see sphinx is most commonly associated with "woman", esp "wild untamed by man woman"
Now most well known story about sphinxes - Odepipius is actually (supposed to be) about conflict woman vs man.
Also its ultra retared
Sphinxes are like some ultra smart, supreme being.
in that story, and even modern sphinx interpretation sphinx ask only ONE motherfucking riddle, always the same, one with the well know answer.
Even more retardenes: sphinx commited suicide, jumping down from a clif.
A motherfucking WINGED sphinx
>>7864411
its also about sphinxes, and faggot that post that first pic supposed to link it in this thread
Not giving fucking riddles, ho ho ho ;D
this is so common that there is even a troppe for this shit
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RiddlingSphinx
in fact, even Gollum is like 1000x time smarter, and better at riddles, then a sphinx, a creature that is supposed to be incarnaton of wisdom -.-'
>>7864649
purushamriga is the sanskrit term, and it literally translates as person-beast
Not the most convenient word though
>>7866083
So Sanskrit has a word for animals with people faces?
My favorite is sphinxes that have no wings, or scaly ones like Lamia
>>7866155
Ya
>>7864845
What a shitty comic.
And of course there's a fucking trope. The notion that sphinxes tell riddles wasn't made up by cartoonists, it's literally part of their history.
>>7867896
i dont think you get it
Almost all those comix, are about same subject
Sphinxes are supposed to tell only ONE riddle, all sphinxes ever, like a species of ultimate retards
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RiddleOfTheSphinx
get it now?
>>7861445
Actually, an OG sphinx would be a lion's body with a man's head, since that's the way it worked in Egyptian art. In Greek art, sphinxes were female and had wings.
>>7868120
Also, there's multiple versions of the Greek sphinx myth (since the Greek myth is the one where it tells riddles), and in some versions it's got two riddles. The second riddle only works in Greek though, so it's much less frequently found than the four legs/two legs/three legs one.
>>7868120
>>7869060
>>7864663
Remember when Gastrophobia was good?
Neither do I.
>>7850621
how would you convey the concept in four panels without it?
>>7825456
I don't think there's a collective term for sphinges, lamiae, manticores, mantygres, shedu, lamassu, buraqs, etc.. but there should be. I guess we could go with 'androcephalics'?
>>7840098
well that's a harpy and a naga respectively. I hadn't considered that those are the same thing, but they kind of are. at least when drawn properly
>>7834721
>>7840291
I love that someone other than me draws lamiae properly. though the rear hooves should be goat, but whatever, they cant agree if the carnivore part is lion or bear, so there's leeway. I also like the ones with additional dragon wings. either way they're underrepresented and I used to draw them all the fucking time, but the last one I did was so long ago that it's embarrassing now
>>7873448
Trick question: I wouldn't. The concept of, "training," in this sense, which is more akin to brainwashing, actually disgusts me on par with things like hypnosis/mind control.
Also, four panels isn't often enough to portray complex ideas without severely dumbing them down, which this comic portrayal is doing. I get it as a trope, but not so much as something that mimics real life enough to have become a trope.
>>7857967
what they typically label lamia is more of a snake-taur though. has the full human upper bit. that is properly an echidna
>>7864678
i miss when comics could have just mild boobage without getting run off the advertisers list
>>7873681
in case you didn't notice, the comic didn't support that practice, but rather condemned it.
>>7873820
I know, but as a whole, I wouldn't use it at all, even to condemn it.
>>7873841
well that's your prerogative, but when you criticize the realism of the scenario, then a person asks how you would represent it in four panels without it, you aren't meant to take that sentence fully literally. You're supposed to accept the premise of the four-panel comic as a necessity for the purposes of the discussion, and if you can't think of a better way to depict the scenario, you have to accept 'because he had to' as a reason for that cliche being used.
>>7873681
It's a porn comic though. I think the point is more to convey emotion than to lay out an intricate plot or accurately represent reality.
Anyway go watch the 'White Christmas' episode of Black Mirror
>>7868120
I'll admit I didn't click on the trope link to see it was about that specific riddle.
The comic was still shit though.
>>7874365
Confession: I didn't go watch it, it's a quarter to four where I am, and that's almost two hours of video.
I did, however, go read a lengthy synopsis of it, and I've got to say? Holy - Shit. I guess your point may have been that mind-breaking/will-breaking/"training," can be used for good? But, the same can be said for just about everything.
I want to impregnate a sphinx
>>7874751
you should take responibility then
And feel free to read a guide how to do it first
>>7850157
Anyway, pic related is one of the worst Sphinx design, where artist aparently wanted to draw a sphinx in a "new, interesting way" "so lets mix some harpy with a sphinx"
Problem is this is quite retarded, sphinx with this body type, would not be able to fly
And yet ^ is still not the worst
This is most retarded sphinx build.
Feral body, back side of lion, front side of human.
i call it "stationary sphinx" but that creature would not be able to even walk properly, nothing better then crawl.
So that sphinx would just sit on a rock and ask riddles
>>7874898
okay
And pls, dont think that this design is something one weiirdo artist pulled out of the blue

>>7879944
I had almost forgotten that one, but it at least makes barest modicum of sense. Originally, they were referred to as hippocentaurs, with the root word, "hippo," being a prefix version of the word hippos, latin for horse.
If you swapped out hippo- for the latin root for whatever animal the lower half of the body was from, and left it as the full word. For example, a panther as the lower body would probably have been referred to as a, "panteracentaur," and a fox might have been a, "vulpicentaur." Collapsing it into a slightly smaller word, as slang, would make sense from there, if they had existed, but would rely on either the adoption of the latin root words, or the partial translation thereof ... which is exactly what we have with weird shit like, "panthertaurs," and, "foxtaurs."
Like I said, barest modicum of sense.
>>7883108
without replacing your spine it wont be very comfortable.
>>7883111
er, no dude, that's straight up modern fandom terminology. the original creature was called kentauros, the bull-piercer. because who better than a guy who's half-three-quarters-of-a-horse to go hunt and stab bulls?
>>7883208
Literally the first line on wikipedia:
>A centaur (/ˈsɛntɔːr/; Greek: Κένταυρος, Kéntauros, Latin: centaurus), or occasionally hippocentaur, is a mythological creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse.
The reference link for hippocentaur references the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Looking up their definition of the word basically describes them as synonyms; hippocentaur's only definition is, "centaur." Also, kentauros is the Greek name, not the latin.
>>7883306
yeah and they're greek
just because something's in the dictionary doesn't mean it's authentic ancient terminology, dude.
>>7883476
And like I said, barest modicum of sense. If it's in there, people could end up being confused, like I was, into thinking it's an actual term, because that's what being in the dictionary usually means.
>>7883182

I didn't see it that way at all though, my impression was that this kind of practice was depicted as irredeemably evil despite the best intentions. The characters did bad things, but none of them really deserved their fates.

it's interesting how old paintings almost always had professional topnotch rendering and great anatomy but only about 40% of the time did they show any sense of proportion or sensible connections between differing animal parts.
also the placement of the sphinx boobies is so often awkward
>>7957375
its related to so called "painting schools"
keep in mind that you suppopsed to be quite wealty (or poor, but with a patron) to even paint a single oil painting
Also most of those artist learn how to paint in a "guild" or in some practice with a master.
Most of those folks also lack any serious resource to even know how sphinx should look alike, maybe except some conflicting description, like "part wooman, part lion, part bird"
