Along with all that, whenever someone feels that they have failed to change their lifestyle that "failure" affects them- it is so easy to claim that you can just drop it and fix yourself, but when you don't do it you feel horrible. So I said last night that things weren't quite as I'd painted them, but I also said I'd say a bit more to put everyone's fears to rest

the long and short of it is that blocks and frustrations are natural parts of any creative endeavor (see also: The Beginner's Guide)
I apologize for worrying anyone, but frustration and even existential crisis are not new feelings to me (or, I should assume, anyone)
as much as art is a source of stress for me, it's also my source of purpose
while I do imagine I could have a simpler life without it, I also can't fathom why I would ultimately choose that over this. i've long sat down imagining a life without it -- and i don't like what i see

so in sum, yes, art is a stress, but it's also a way out of it. it's a lot of work, but it's my source of satisfaction and purpose, and cutting my passion out of my life would feel like a lobotomy: a pursuit of contentment in betrayal of who I am.
I also wanted to thank everyone for their kind words -- not just hollow platitudes but sincere empathy and understanding. I honestly didn't know how many people here I inspired or encouraged and as frustrating as art may be it's all worth it if I've helped others find their own artistic voice

I probably wouldn't have ended up in this fandom or even seen the movie if Late Stake hadn't lead me here and now I've written over a hundred thousand words of fanfiction of it. I can't properly put into words how thankful I am that you lead me here - writing has given me a sense of meaning and purpose in a time when both were pretty fucking scarce in my life.

And you can't discount the domino effect here, either. I've got 170k hits on my stories between FFN and Ao3. If we assume five minutes spent reading per hit, that's OVER NINETEEN MONTHS of entertainment, none of which would have existed if you hadn't played pied piper - and that's just through one single writefag out of the many you've inspired.

Back in late 2003, my brothers and I were at the Happiest Place on Earth -- Disneyland!

We had bought a Disneyland Autograph Book, the kind they sell to give kids a way to get all their favorite toon characters and costumed performers to sign a funny little signature and to remember their trip.
But my brothers and I weren't there for their signatures. Instead, we were punctuating our visit by getting signatures from all the folks who normally wouldn't get asked. We eagerly requested signatures from the ride operators, the churro stand guy, the Jungle Cruise tour guides, even the janitor we passed. I know this might sound pretentious or twee, but we weren't doing it it to be patronizing -- we recognized that they too were an integral part of the Disneyland experience, as much as anyone else was, and we were genuinely excited to get their signatures. As an added bonus, theirs were more unpredictable and off the cuff, and a few wrote things I'm pretty sure Disney wouldn't have okayed.

But the high point was Big Thunder Railroad. As we sat down at the very front of the ride, a very chill and very casual ride operator cheerfully helped us and other guests fasten in. His demeanor immediately struck me, as did his nametag:

T-Rex.

As the ride started up, I told my brothers "we HAVE to get his signature, too"
They agreed.

So we went back around immediately, standing in line until we reached the front, and got a very pleased but totally unphased Rex to sign our books. As we settled in for our second ride, waiting for the other guests to be secured, we collectively marveled at his signature:

We had a laugh together

And he was the ride operator for Big Thunder Railroad
