Skunk culture likely has very little to do with their anal glands. I'll concede it's likely you're consider lesser, or can possibly develop a complex for not having them, but it's just a part of your life. I doubt there are a lot of skunk extremists shunning a skunk who had their glands removed.

What about how in ancient times the fathers would abandon the mothers to raise the kits themselves? Or how most skunks used to live solitary lives, except in winter when they were likely to group together for warmth?

Or the fact that the stripes were evolved to let other predators know not to mess with them? They evolved them as their own red flag.

This is a very interesting point. Grimpderp isn't the rule, quite the opposite. Like, both "drunk" and "rain" TTs were mostly happy despite being providing an avenue for unlimited sads.

However, overabundance of cheap drama in the fandom created a situation where most people here don't take kindly to anything remotely dramatic, which is mostly fine as it helps to weed out any abloo for the sake of abloo before it appears. I know proper feels are very difficult to pull off and to be honest I feel intense deficit of sad stuff. I just like sad stuff, sue me. I'd read more of it, but there's so little of high-quality feels content I'm struggling to find anything. Some Falke's works, say judy and some zhan's draws come to mind, but that's pretty much about it.

I partly agree with you on Say Judy's strength came from how early it was in the fandom, but I also think a part of its power came from not drawing out any romantic feelings in the comic. This was the WildeHopps partnership, the two friends who went through so many adventures together. Nick's death wasn't some tragic thing, it was just the end of the line for him after so many years. Judy didn't have any regrets, she was just sad to see her partner go.

I'm not sure about that, I felt about the same when there was relationship back then. I mean I don't need a slideshow showing their marriage but I still think about it, like those one shot or pictures of Nick/Judy shot I still thought about them on the adventures on the movie and now of the comics before reaching that point. What I agree was a strong point was that it was a natural death rather than more "got shot/operation went bad/got reckless" plots.

Maybe I just need to stay away from this stuff until I can read something that try to be grimdark without thinking "The author is going to try to pull a sad moment over one of them dying" and then having a large sneer and a very small violin playing when the time arrives.

Apparently not. He didn't know what was it Otterton wanted to discuss with him and as far as he concerned, he assaulted his driver and fled.

My headcanon is Bellwether (or Doug) and Otterton are somehow connected and she got wind Emitt figured out what's going on with the predators.

Otterton couldn't report his findings to the police either because he had ties to the mafia or didn't trust the police. That's a bit of a stretch, however, because this would imply he knew the city hall is compromised, so he'd probably starte yelling "Dawn dawn" instead of "nighthowlers"

I think in this case translation is to blame as well - it was translated almost literally and most likely sounds poetic in Japanese or playing on some local tropes or poems, but with nearly literal translation it sounds plastic and fake.

For now it was simply enough to enjoy the moment. It had been a while incoming, but it had been worth it.
