I think what's missing is that the gut spread and the popping need to be a bit more in sync at this point. The fly bursts open, but the belly takes some time to spread and looks like it's hovering in a sense, even though there's nothing holding it in place.

Just eyeballing it, play with how many frames you have in between keyframes 2 and 3. It might be the case that less is more there.
