I feel that the monster ball thread is neat but also really niche and specific, so probably fated to an early grave just like the monster threads centered around one character. Condensing all monsters/weird fiction in one place would probably be the best starting point to see what people want to discuss the most.

>For the discussion of character/creatures which are too monstrous/beastly to be associated with the anthro standards of furry.

I'm not sure if Loka is an example of that. Loka seems more like an anthro character than anything else, particularly because of the humane face, frowning and smiling like any human, and showing human personality traits even without accompanying information. MalO, as a better example, shows no direct human traits other than being bipedal and sharing more or less the same proportions with humans. Discuss.

>>7450007

Ghoulish Wendigo's are already being posted. I like this thread.
>>
>>7455299
loka is a monster, as in, from monsters inc.
>>
>>7455653
That's not really an excuse, after OP went through the effort of trying to desribe what a /monster/ or /beast/ is (and consequently what is and isn't allowed). Sully is, without doubt, what you'd call anthro, and I'm sure Monsters Inc/Monsters University has examples that are even more Anthro - are they valid thread material too, then?
>>
>>7447530
post that official thicc image, you know the one
>>
>>7452094
If the Monster Ball is supposed to be more of an RP thing, I'd recommend trying to start a chat outside of /trash/ for it. If you're just discussing monsters/weird fiction then I don't see why not.

>>7455299
Loka should be fine because she has an unusual body plan and isn't directly based on an animal. I'm sure discussion of any one character will eventually fizzle out anyways if there aren't a lot of people who want to talk about them.

Basically anything that isn't directly furry should be allowed. So beasts/feral creatures that are far enough from anthro to not be considered straight up furry, as well as monsters that are very anthropomorphic but also chimeric or possess bizarre features. Things like aliens/plants/insects which have their own niches should be discussed separately.

>>7449414
I'd say this thread leans more towards female creatures, males beasts usually fall under bara. If you think it's fitting, you're free to post it but there's no guarantee that others will share your appreciation.
>>
>>7455869

That sounds fair.
I'm sure the guidelines will become more and more clear as we judge the thread's future submissions in a case-by-case basis.

Though an interesting bit of trivia
The owner of the fursuit originally identified the fursona (known as Breynz) as male. However, as it got more and more noticed (not sure if this was before or after it was used as the base for scp 1471), more people started calling it her in the comments. Finally, even the creator joined in, renaming it Breynz the Dark Widow

>Monster's Ball: It's always a Masquerade

Hark!

The brazen bells of midnight upon the darkness toll,
But sleep, life's custom agent, won't take from me his dole;
Down paths so many follow, death would my spirit lead,
And death, when all considered, resembles life indeed;
While in my heart the balance does level stand between
And neither to the one, nor to the other lean.

>Sand fucking everywhere.
>It`s really fucking hot.
>Your ears were ringing.
>All you could recall was the sight of something exploding.
>No specific memories about yourself.
>Great, amnesia.
>You sat up.
>There was nothing but shifting sands all the way to the horizon.
>The sound of wind blowing and flames crackling brought your attention to something behind you.

>A ship.
>A spaceship.
>A scout-type, it appeared.
>You ran some simple addition in your head.
>Crashed ship plus amnesia plus unfamiliar territory equals...
>You were absolutely fucked.
>>
>>7549183
>With that conclusion, you decided to disregard that thought and scavenge the site of the crash anyways.
>Most of the cargo had burned up.
>You managed to fill a bag with some rations, a condenser, a few rounds for the pistol you had, and a small knife.
>The condenser was the best find, being able to take ambient moisture in the air and cool it into pure, drinkable water.
>Not much water in a desert.

>You took these things and set them in your backpack, which you had found conveniently buried halfway in the sand.
>There was nothing else on the ship.
>So you struck out, hoping to find something other than empty desert.

>The place wasn`t actually all that hot.
>Likely eighty fahrenheit at the most.
>It just felt that way due to you sitting there unconcious for ages.
>As you walked, occasionally you could hear some sort of clattering.
>It was unsettling, because the sound continued to occur no matter how far you walked.
>But, nothing happened for the two hours you had walked, you had seen nothing but sand.
>And now your legs were tired.
>You decided to take a break if you found any source of shade.
>>
>>7549351
>Well, there was a pile of rocks just sitting there, ahead of you.
>It took a few minutes to reach, but it was worth it, providing ample shadow to rest in.
>You took your bag off, sat it beside you, and dug out the condenser.
>It currently contained four-hundred and thirty milliters of fluid out of the maximum of seven-fifty.
>You slowly drank it down.
>You weren`t hungry, so there was nothing else to do but sit and enjoy the momentary respite.
>You nearly fell asleep.
>Then you heard the clattering sounds... directly above you.

>Your heart rate spiked as the shot of adrenaline went through your body.
>You rolled forward, away from long thin limbs that had attempted to impale you.
>You made some distance, then turned around.
>Oh boy.

>It was insectoid, massive, and looked like a spider and an ant had a nightmarish child.
>Probably some mantis in there too.
>It slowly clambered over the rocks.
>You pulled your pistol out.
>You had seven rounds.
>>
>>7549562
>It was standing on top of the boulders now.
>You could see how large it was.
>Nearly the size of a cow.
>The monster hissed at you as it prepared to leap.
>You could see it winding up, its body dipping down to ready itself.
>You pointed the gun at one of its eyes and fired.
>A bang, a screech, a splatter of blood.
>Or was it hemolymph?
>Well, that didn`t matter.
>There were bigger things to consider, like the fact that the creature was now hissing and crawling away.

"Change of heart, huh?"
>It couldn`t understand you, but it felt good being cocky anyways.
>You didn`t want it to leave and come back with more bugs, so you quickly strafed around it to line up another shot.
>The insect was slowing down, bit by bit as its life seeped out of the large hole in its head.
>It wouldn`t survive for long at this rate.

>You took out the knife.
>Maybe you could save a round.
>You looked for any openings that you could take advantage of.
>Well, you had a crazy idea.
>>
>>7550211
Is the crazy idea to put your penis in the bullet hole?
>>
>>7550211
>As the thing crawled away, you climbed up the pile of rocks.
>At this height, you could do it.
>You leapt down with the knife, aiming to stab it in the head.
>The strike was successful, the insectoid monster dying with a hiss.
>Huh.
>What now?
>Nothing more to do except move forwards.

>After that, you kept an eye out for anything else that could be a threat.
>You saw the occasional Mantid, what you have taken to calling them, wandering through the desert, but they kept their distance from you.
>Maybe they somehow knew what you had done, bringing down one of their own.
>It was a blessing anyways, no matter the reason.
>But those were the only creatures you had seen in this place.
>So far, at least.

>There was nothing but desert.
>Which direction should you head?
>>
>>7550516
Seems like a good story so far.
>>
>>7550516
My plan is to make this an interactive story. Every time the passage finishes with a question, you can provide an answer. Of course, these answers must make sense.
>>

Oh, you probably should have made that clear earlier. Anyways,

>>7550516
>You check the time and scan the terrain for any signs of change.
>You choose to keep walking in the direction away from the ship.
>>
>>7550516
>>7551433
>You looked around and got your bearings.
>The sun was near setting, so you would likely have to find shelter for the night.
>You decided to keep heading away from your ship though.

>As you walked, and walked, and walked, you tried to recall any memory.
>There was nothing to remember, it seemed.
>Ah, whatever, you would give it time.
>Wait... you noticed something in the distance.
>A large amount of earth jutting out of the ground, and a hole within said earthen formation that appeared to be a cave.
>There were also a few plants dotted around the area, which meant that there was water.
>Maybe an underground stream.
>This was a lucky find, and it could serve as shelter for tonight.
>You kept up your pace towards it.

>A few minutes later, you had arrived.
>The plants were an odd sort of grass that seemed to curl away from you as you walked by.
>Then there was the massive rock formation in front of you.
>There was indeed a cave.
>You were considering heading in, but the idea of meeting more native creatures made you a bit reluctant to head within.

>Would it be worth it to explore this place?
>>
>>7551971
>Well, there isn't much else besides the desert and the coming night.
>And being stranded, there's not much to lose.
>>

>Well, the sun seemed to be setting rather quickly, and you had a weapon.
>Nothing to lose, all to gain.
>You rummaged through your bag in search of something.
>There had been a flashlight in a small pocket on the side of the bag.
>You had apparently overlooked it, but you were glad to have it.

>Time to go.
>You headed into the cavern, pistol and flashlight at the ready.
>It was quiet, though wind seemed to be blowing through the place.
>Your light casted the surroundings in a gentle blue glow.

>You had walked in a good distance, yet there was nothing except for a large hole going downwards on the side of the of the path.
>That was not something you were going to explore any time soon.
>At this point, you had seen enough, so you headed back to the entrance.
>Surprisingly, you hadn`t gotten lost.
>But there was something ahead.

>A Mantid.
>It was not the one you had fought earlier, but it was badly injured.
>Covered in hemolymph, missing a front limb, and one of its antenna was frayed and cut.
>It was also smaller than the one you had encountered.
>About two meters long, a meter tall.
>The creature was limping towards the cave, putting you between its destination.
>You were about to draw your pistol and fire, but the Mantid just... stopped.

>It dropped to the ground and made a slight hissing sound.
>You held still for a few moments.... but all the thing did was peer at you with its odd eyes.
>Maybe this could give you the chance to inspect one closely and observe their behavior.

>You reached out towards it, and it flinched.
>It slowly looked back up at you and gave a short hiss and clicked its mandibles.
>You could easily kill it, or you could leave it.
>What should you do with this creature?

>You decide to leave it be for now; it wasn`t hurting anything.
>Though you didn`t want to touch it, or have it touching you.
>You walked away, heading back to the mouth of the cave to take stock of your possessions.
>As you set your bag down, you heard the familiar clattering sounds.
>The Mantid followed you here.
>Yet it still kept its distance.
>You were seriously a bit unsettled by this thing.
>Though again, it was injured, and you could likely kill it with just a knife.

>It sat four meters from you as you went through your things.
>You were hungry at this point, so you took out one of the rations.
>Break the hydration pack, press the cook button, wait ten minutes...
>These instructions were at the back of your mind as you prepared your food, like you had done this many, many times before.

>After an estimated ten minutes, you broke the seal and opened the ration.
>Was that... steak and potatoes?
>That seemed like a good meal.

>It kept its head down and front limbs folded down beneath it, which led you to believe that it was trying to behave in a submissive manner.
>Well, okay, you could afford to throw a single piece of food out for it.
>There was a chunk of fat on the side of the steak that you cut off and tossed to the creature.
>Then you started eating.
>The Mantid, on the other hand, was inspecting the odd morsel that you`d given it.
>After a half a minute or so, it seemed to decide that it was safe, so it bent down and ate the chunk whole.
>Its behavior reminded you of a canine`s.
>No more scraps for it though, at least not until you had eaten all you could.

>There was a bit left, mainly pieces of potato peel and some chunks of beef fat.
>You were stuffed though, so you set the ration container a few feet from you.
>The Mantid came forwards and pulled the container away from you, then began to eat rather quickly.
>There wasn`t much to eat though, so it had finished soon enough.
>Maybe you would end up taming this thing.
>A thought popped into your mind of you riding it into battle, which drew a laugh out of you.

>After a bit of a break, you checked outside.
>It was cooling off rapidly, and the sun had set already.
>Well, your suit could handle lower temperatures to a point.
>It seemed to have a built-in heating system, which was handy.
>You wouldn`t have to worry about freezing to death.
>You were quite warm, recently had a good meal, and it was night time.
>It was time to turn in and rest.

>The Mantid was behaving oddly though.
>It seemed to be trying to curl up and... Oh, it was trying to stay warm.
>It was rather cold outside.
>For some reason, you felt sorry for the thing.
>It would be fine though, considering this species was native to this place.

>At least it hadn`t killed you in your sleep.
>Hell, it was actually... comforting, having a companion in this place.
>Though you wouldn`t be able to sleep in this sort of situation.
>The insect seemed to be waking up though, likely as a response to you moving away from it.
>It made a few soft, short hisses and pulled you closer again.
>Well, you weren`t getting out of this that easily.

>What were you going to do now?
>There was an insect that was about the size of a large motorbike laying on top of you.

>It was definitely moth-like, though it was quadrupedal, but also taller than you while on all fours.
>Your companion hid behind you.

>Time to see if you could convince this thing to calm dowm or leave.
>You dug around in your bag and found a container of cookies that came with the ration that you had eaten.
>The moth-thing slowly drew closer, though it seemed more curious than anything.
>You tore open the package; the crinkling and tearing startled both creatures.

>There were five cookie-biscuit things.
>You handed one to the Mantid, then slowly approached the moth.
>It flapped its wings and backed away, but you held out your arm, offering one of the treats.

>You heard it crunching on the cookie, and it seemed to settle down a bit.
>Both insects were calmed, and you hoped it would stay that way.

>The moth walked up to you and looked around, then it spotted the bag that contained the other three cookies.
>Before you could react, its tongue shot out and snagged another.
>You were at least going to give one more to the Mantid before the moth took them all.

"Here, take this."
>You were still quite sure that neither of the creatures could understand you, but it seemed to be a habit.
>The Mantid clambered up on two legs and took the cookie out of your hand, then shrunk away once more, likely afraid of the moth.
>For a moment, you wondered if these insects could feel emotions like fear or affection like mammals could.

>The moth leaned downwards and took it from you, then it nudged your hand with its head again.
>Were you really going to do this?
>Of course you were.
>You rubbed the moth between its antennae, feeling its soft fur under your fingers.
>The Mantid poked your leg with its front left forelimb, and you reached down to pat it on the head as well.
>You seemed to have two companions now, though both seemed to be at odds.

>You returned to the mouth of the cave and sat down.
>The moon was halfway across the night sky, which meant that you could rest for a while.
>The two insects followed you within, and both proceeded to lie down next to you.
>The Moth, being the largest, ended up behind you.
>You were underneath one of its wings, and leaning up against its furred body.

>"This is... cool. It`s kinda heavy for its size though."
>You walked around behind her.

"Well, you need to learn to hold it right. Put your hand here, and the other one beneath that..."
>Eventually, you taught her how to hold the pistol correctly.
>You had some targets set up outside in a barn, so she would learn to shoot in there.
>First, you had to take her there.
>After walking down a path on your property, you arrived at the barn.

>And so her training began.

>You woke up in an unfamiliar place, along with unfamiliar creatures.
>It took a moment, but you recalled yesterday`s events.
>You now had two new traveling companions.
>As you sat up, Fly looked over its shoulder at you.
"Good morning, Fly."
>It whistled at you and stood up.
>Walk woke up moments after, stretching its limbs out and making clicking sounds.
"Sleep well, guys?"
>You had no idea why you were still talking to them, but they seemed to understand the various pitches and inflections in your voice.

>So, what were you going to do now?
>You had eleven rations left, but you didn`t need to eat yet.
>Your condenser was almost full.
>Maybe Walk and Fly needed a drink.
"Hey, Walk."
>You nudged the Mantid and it peered up at you.
>It had seemingly recovered from its injuries, and it was getting around better than it had been.
>You slid the top off of the condenser and put it in front of Walk.
>The insect grabbed the bottle with its mandibles and shook it a bit, until it realized how a bottle works.
>Walk lifted its head and pulled the opening of the bottle into its mouth.
>It stayed like this for about twenty seconds, then it set the container down in front of you.

>Walk had drunk it down to two-thirty-three.
>It brushed its head against your ankle.
>You picked up the bottle and rubbed Walk on the side of its head.
>There was no telling if that actually did anything, though both seemed to enjoy the attention.

>You walked over to Fly and presented the condenser.
>It slipped its tongue inside and drank a small amount.
>Condenser was at one-fourty.
>You patted Fly on the side.
"Alright, let`s get going."

>Backpack was loaded.
>You were well rested.
>Your companions had drunk their fill.
>It was time to head out.

>You decided to call the direction the sun was rising from East.
>Now you had to go south, away from your ship.
>Fly seemed to have a different idea.
>As you were heading out, it lowered its head and pushed against your back.
"What?"
>It crouched to the ground and flapped its wings.
>Did it want you to ride it?
>Well, it`s better than walking.
>You pulled yourself up onto its back.

>Fly whistled, then Walk walked on over and stood next to it.
>The moth rapidly flapped its wings and began to hover.
>Then it picked Walk up and started gaining altitude.

>Holy shit, this was terrifying, but awesome.
>From this height, you could see much farther.
>To the south was what looked like an oasis.
>To the west was a mountain formation.
>And to the northeast...
>Was a beacon.

>A small trickle of information came back to you.
>Someone had set up emergency beacons on every known planet in case of crashes and whatnot.
>You just had to get there and activate it.

>Where should you go?
>The oasis was nearby, and the beacon was just a thin line of white light far in the distance.

>The oasis sounded like a better idea.
>It was nearby and your companions would be able to drink as much water as they needed to.
>Considering a fragment of your memory had returned, maybe there was more to come as time went on.
>It would be good to know why you were here.

"Alright, Fly. That way!"
>You patted the moth on the head and motioned towards the small patch of greenery.
>Hopefully Fly would understand what you were asking.
>It whistled and took off towards the place you were pointing to.

>Holy shit it was flying fast.
>You held on for dear life, but yelled out with excitement.
>The wind from Fly`s wings plus the air blowing in your face made it hard to see.
>All you could do was wrap your arms and legs around the moth`s back and wait to arrive.
>>
>>7584518
>You felt the air around you slow down, so you opened your eyes and sat up.
>The mountain range was still looming in the distance, and the oasis was directly beneath you.
>There was indeed a large pool of water, which was surrounded with a few tall trees and sparsely dotted with grasses.
>Fly began its descent.

>You landed softly on the ground after rolling off of the behemoth of a moth.
"Good job buddy."
>You petted the insect on the underside of what you percieved to be its neck.
>It whistled and vibrated its wings a little.
>Then it stood up and leaned to the side.
>Your other traveling companion had been underneath the moth.

>Walk crawled away, staggering.
>It wasn`t used to flying, it seemed.
>Well, you had time for a break, and so did your companions.
>Fly immediately took off towards the pond.
>Walk just collapsed in a heap a few feet from where the moth had landed.
>You walked over and set the condenser beside the body of murky water.
>The evaporating water should make it easier for the condenser to refill.

>Now you were sitting down, rummaging through your bag for another case of rations.
>You picked one at random and slid the dessert section off.
>This could work as another treat for the insects.
>The modular design of the plastic containers seemed odd at first, but it was actually ingenious.
>A case consisted of a few different containers, all linked together with a sliding lock mechanism.
>When they are put together, there can be many, many meals consisting of different modules.
>And the modules were locked together at random, ensuring variation.

>You inspected the label.
>Chocolate cake.
>That would work fine, except there was a bit of prep time.
>First though, the top of the container had to come off.
>Inside was a bag of dough that would expand as it baked into a cake.
>There was a packet on the side of the package that you pressed, breaking the internal pouch of different chemicals which slowly gave off heat as time went on.
>Whoever made these things were serious about food.

>Soon, the cake had finished.
>You tore open the bag and inside was a mass of delicious chocolate pastry.
>The smell had already brought your two companions over.
>Walk bent its head down, submissive once again.
>Fly tried to reach out with its tongue to snatch a bite.
"No. Give me a moment, Fly."
>It actually stopped and sat still as you divided the dessert into suitable amounts.
>Insects always seemed to like sugar, so it made sense to give them the sweet stuff.

-Distance
>>
>>7584874
>You tore the bag in half and gave both insects a proportionate amount of cake.
>Of course, Fly got more than Walk.
>Now that they had food and water, you could explore this small area.
>You stood up and patted Walk on the head.
"Don`t worry, I`m just gonna be walking around a bit."
>The mantid looked up at you for a moment, then went back to eating.
>You pulled your pack on and began to wander around.

>There wasn`t anything interesting around, so you began to walk back around the pond.
>As you walked past a pile of rocks, you heard something.
>What was that...?
>"Dumbass, get down!"
>Someone pulled you behind the rocks.
>Wait... someone speaking.
>Another Human, speaking Common no less!

>It was a man that had been scorched by the sun many times.
>His hair was black, skin red, and his eyes were full of fear.
>"Stay still, or they`ll see us."
"Who`ll see us?"
>"The bugs. You seem to be surviving well, but have you never seen one of them?"

>But the guy held on to your arm like his life depended on it.

"Yeah, just found that one outside of a cave I was going through."

"This one found us. I was camping out in the same cave and there was suddenly this flapping sound."

You dropped down.
>You felt a massive burst of wind and saw a large line of light shoot straight past your head.
>What the fuck was that?
>Someone was trying to kill you.
>And they had a line-rifle.

>Line-Rifles were pretty much if you condensed the energy from an entire starship`s main cannon into a single razor thin line of energy.
>It didn`t explode, didn`t melt anything, didn`t do anything special.
>The shots just went through anything and everything.
>Typically disintegrating anything in the path of the shot.
>Trying to use that on you was a bit overkill though.

>You could kill this person now that they`d revealed their position.
>A cloaked figure with a long angular rifle stood a long ways away.
>Adrenaline was now coursing through your veins, your blood, your mind.
>Your eyes sharpened, time slowed, and the only thing you could sense was your target, the sights of your gun, and your heartbeat.
>You took the shot.
>The bullet exploded out of the barrel and tore through the chest of the assassin.
>You could see their shocked face from here.
>And the cloak came off, revealing a... a Horizon corp. insignia on their sleeve.
>You took a moment to catch your breath.
>>
>>7600146
>After that short encounter, you realised something.
>That person had been at least a half a kilometer away.
>That sort of shot with a pistol was some luck.
>Also, that person had been a Horizon merc.
>If you were one of them, why would they be attacking you?
>You thought about this for a moment, but then you heard someone running up behind you.

>"Holy shit man, are you okay?"
>Aren had arrived, and he was out of breath.
>Must have run.
>"I heard a lound explosion. What happened?"
>You put the pistol back in your pocket and turned around.
"Someone tried to kill me. With a line rifle."
>He looked at you oddly, which you attributed to what had just occurred at first.
>But then you saw something else in his eyes.
>Fear.

>He backed away rapidly, falling on his ass after losing balance.
>"What the fuck?!"
"What? You alright, man?"
>"You`re... you... your eyes..."
>He pointed up at you.
>>
>>7600444
>"You`re a fucking bug!"
"What."
>He sounded really distraught.
>"Your fucking eyes man! They`re fucking changed!"
>You had no idea what was going on.

>You closed your eyes and took a deep breath.
>Then you cracked your eyes open again to see, or more appropriately not see, the cloaked figure in the distance.
>"Your eyes are back to normal now, so do you mind telling me what that was all about!?"

"I don`t know. I dodged that guy`s shot and-"
>"Okay, so you dodged a fucking line rifle shot now?"
"Yeah. Then I shot them with the pistol."
>"From that fucking far away. Okay, alright. I need a moment to process this and think."
