Hey /npg/, I used to be active in here back in 2012 and I'm just getting into playing again. Mind if I ask a few questions?

1. Why are we in /trash/ now? I used to check /vg/ every month or so and never thought to look here. Why did we get kicked out of there? Furry degeneracy?

Seems decent, if outdated. I'm a bit lazy, so just regarding Constants, a Scroll of Ultranova is nowadays, under 5 NP, thanks to being given out by the Neopia Central Battledome.
At 9.8 icons, it is very strong for its price, and, based purely on how many icons it deals, is better than any of the constants they list there.

And if you participated in the Summer 2016 Altador Cup, the Yooyu Knuckle Dusters, while using 7 Physical and 7 Light icons, are incredible for dealing 14 icons each, and being purchaseable from the Altador Cup Prize Shop for only 180 Prize Points each.

I made a google docs spreadsheet that had everything laid out in increments of 5 minutes. You had to manually go there and mark whether or not it was open.

Now that I think about it, I bet I could whip up a quick userscript that would just refresh every 5 minutes and automatically write to some storage whether it was your time or not.

It may also be worth considering, that, supposedly, the Order hasn't won 9 times in a row now or something; I'm too forgetful to remember the statistics, and too lazy to check them right now.

....Or you could just join based on something like following your Bori Waifu/Zombie Wocky Loli Daughterfus or whatever.

Either way, don't forget to join, and remember to fight at least 10 battles against faction opponents once you have, or you don't get any boons at all!

Currently, The Sway has the majority by quite a bit on most of the places I know to check, Avatar/Neosignatures Board chat excluded.

They also have the best boons.
So, I'd recommend you join The Sway this round, due to the numbers, even though the Order is a pretty close second.

Even if you need one of the other factions' avatars, better to side with what's likely to win and get your boons this round, and then get your avatar next time, instead of losing and getting nothing, after all!

Hey /npg/, I'm a total battledome noob. I've been looking around for a few guides now that the battledome has been revamped, but I haven't really found anything. I have a few questions:

1. Should I grind out fights I know I can win, because the prizes now are codestones and generally valuable stuff?

2. What's the best way to train now? Grind to level 40 at the academy, then to 250 at the training school cause it's the cheapest?

3. What are the best stats I should be putting my points into in order of importance? HP, strength, defense?

4. If you have super expensive and good weapons, do your stats not matter? If you have crappy weapons but good stats will you still do ok?

1. Some stronger enemies give out valuable stuff, but codestones and bottled faeries are given out by everybody, so grinding out a weaker enemy is a perfectly valid strategy. If you're interested in farming codestones, you want to find an enemy that doesn't have a lot of their own items to give out so that you have a higher chance of getting those generic prizes instead.

has a list of challengers with their stats and prizes and whatnot. For an easy low level fight, I found the S750 Kreludan Defender Robot to be fairly reliable in dropping codestones. As a bonus, the Neocola Centre also has a very small chance of giving out Armoured Neggs.

2. Pretty much. Academy is slower, but far cheaper. Think of it this way, it'll give you plenty of time to farm some of those codestones that you're going to need for the training school.

3. Your stats are limited by your level, so you'll generally just end up training everything to twice your level and then training your level. As long as you aren't training speed, then it really doesn't matter too much what order you train them in. Though I suppose it's worth mentioning that defense only affects how much you block with defensive equipment, so it won't do anything if you aren't blocking damage.

4. Quite the opposite, in fact. Your stats add a multiplier to your weapon's damage, so if you have really good stats then the difference between a good weapon and a bad one will be even more apparent.

1. Generally, yes. Earning your daily 1500 NP and 15 items from the Battledome is a good idea. I recommend the Koi Warrior in the Dome of the Deep once you can take him on.

2. Some prefer the Swashbuckling Academy, but the Mystery Island Training School is also significantly cheaper. MITS also allows you to train your HP as high as 3 times your level instead of 2 times as high, unlike any other training school. Although, if you train HP to 60 while at level 20, and all your other stats are 30, you may still have to train your level up to within half or more of your highest stat -HP in this example- before any school would let you continue training courses.

3. If you expect to grind out lots of win, having a higher strength boost is useful, since some faerie abilities -like the level 50 one- let you freeze your opponent. Of course, since some dailies can damage your pet, HP is important, too. But, you can visit the Healing Springs every half an hour, and feeding your pet can also heal them.

If I had to recommend starting equipment, I'd recommend:

Scroll of Ultranova (9.8 icons, dirt cheap.)
Virtupets X-514 Super Shield ( http://battlepedia.jellyneo.net/index.php?go=showweapon&id=10157&idb=1 Only a few hundred NP.)
Magical Healing Potion if you're cheap. It heals 15 HP once per battle.
Or the Oasis Tonic, which is 35 HP OPB, but costs a few thousand. Still one of the best healers. Just don't play in French when using it; Supposedly, it's been known to turn into a 100-HP One-Use Healer due to a glitch when playing on that language. Then it disappears, which is pretty bad, as the Oasis Tonic was exclusively given out by an event.

A Scroll of the Wise is also an option, as it deals 10 instead of 9.8 icons, and is only a little above 4k. http://items.jellyneo.net/item/51983/ The icon spread isn't as good though.


Oh, & consider starting wishing for a Turned Tooth at the Wishing Well.

Swashbuckling Academy:

Level 10 and under courses take 4 hours.
Level 11-20 courses take 6 hours.
Level 21-30 courses take 8 hours.
Level 31-40 courses take 10 hours.

At MITS, level 20 and under is a whole category instead of being split into two, and each course takes 2 hours.
And level 21-40 is also a whole category, needing only 3 hours.

Codestone training is definitely more expensive, yes, but also MUCH faster than Dubloon Training.

Expensive? What are you healing with? You are healing at the Healing Springs, right? Also, using the Healing Springs shop? Just click "See what is for sale".
Just like you can heal there once every half an hour, you can also buy from there once every half an hour.

The Roman Numeral Healing Potion items have nonsensical pricing, but ones with higher numerals heal more.
Ex: Healing Potion I heals 1 HP, and costs 42 NP....
While Healing Potion XII heals 45 HP, yet costs 35 NP.

That said, for many of the potions, it's still dirt cheap.
Also, the exclusive potions are much more sensibly priced.
Dewberry Reviver, Bubbling Healing Goo, Super Strength Healing Potion, & Essence of Everlasting Apple, specifically.
All 4 of those cost the same amount of NP as the amount of HP they heal.

Obviously, the Healing Springs Shop prices never change, but they have infinite stock, & are still well-priced where it matters.


Of course, food can heal your pets, too. If you want multiple-use food, the Giant Omelette & the Giant Jelly are good for that, too.

So kinda surprised you're finding it expensive to heal your pets.

....Or did you mean things like the Oasis Tonic being 35 HP per use & Once Per Battle?
Because French-language glitch aside, it, & other OPB Use items just disable themselves for the rest of the battle after use, then come back next time.

Ah yes. I suppose if you're taking a lot of damage, that's an issue. Healing Springs and in-battle healers aside, there's not too many reliable ways to heal too easily.

Of course, you could also try battling more defensively.

Assuming you can't freeze and one-shot them, depending on who you're fighting, a good dual duty can help a lot.

If you're fighting something like the Kreludan Defender Robot and don't wanna cash out on a Cursed Elixir to grind him -Drains 20 HP, and deals 0.3 to 3 icons; Drain is unblockable, and it heals you, so it's VERY good for beating our robot buddy- and you don't have very good stats yet....

I'd recommend a Parasol of Unfortunate Demise and a Scarab Ring.

The Parasol of Unfortunate Demise blocks 1.4-5 Earth icons and 3 Water Icons, 100% of all Light Icons, and uses the Strength boost of "whoever clicks first" for its defensive multiplier, making it great for blocking if you have low defense.

The Scarab Ring deals 2 Physical, 2 Water, and 2 Dark, while block 3 Physical 3 Fire.

Neither of these are good for blocking the air icons he deals, but both cost 1,000 NP or less and are great weapons in many situations, even for beginners.

Sadly, it's a bit difficult to get Dual Duties can effectively block Air. I'll post search link next post because it's a long url, in case you wanna see for yourself.

Many of them are ineffective, overpriced, or stupidly rare, and not worth the trouble. Especially just for 1 challenger whom you can probably beat with just a bit of training.

Donate items of specific categories -one year, it was Toys, Darigan Toys, Plushies, Usukis and such, another year, it was things like Books, School Supplies, and Wearables- that have similar enough rarities to get a random item of a similar rarity.

Because it's had a unique Avatar both times it showed up, and the gambling can be lucrative, the prices of items you can donate was driven way up.

It was at its worst the first time around, because of the Adopt a Neopian letters; A message that hinted at 5 specific items to donate to get a specific, exclusive item, on the day of that Adopt a Neopian letter only.

Problem was, although the letters and items were different day to day, everyone still saw the same "new" letter, and their Adopt a Neopian request involved the same 5 items.
Not to mention, getting the Avatar for the 2014 Charity Corner event involved completing several days of Adopt a Neopian quests, each of which was available for 1 day only, and with everyone after the same items....

Well, let's just say that, if my memory serves, you originally had to complete MORE than 8 days of AoN Requests to get the 2014 Charity Corner Avatar.


While the 2015 CC was devoid of any such event, and asked for a greater variety of items, prices still spiked during the event, in no part thanks to CC 2015 having its own avatar.
And 2014 was still a nightmare to get the exclusive items for, with the prices of AoN items jumping up by thousands the moment the day began and the letters were seen!


As profitable as it can be, I do not remember Charity Corner fondly, and was fine with its absence during 2016.

The event is designed to get rid of excessive items on the site *and* release high rarity items so their prices go down. It's a way to get rid of junk and decrease inflation.

The point isn't to drive the prices down during the event, it's to drive the prices down afterward by increasing the supply that's in circulation. It doesn't matter who it is that ends up trading in the junk. Just because you can't buy the junk to trade in doesn't mean that someone else won't, or that the people who are selling it won't trade it in themselves on the last day. And once the supply of the rare things increases, the price that's it's sold for will lower because there's more of them to go around.

I mean, yes Charity Corner will drive up the price of most anything you can donate, but those prices are from supply & demand.
People want to buy the donation fodder at its cheapest, usually because:

A. They want to re-sell it at a higher price for a profit.
Or B. They want to use it to donation gamble.

Assuming they don't somehow do both or something else.
Regardless, more demand means the prices people are willing to pay goes up, and thus, so does how much people can & will charge for it.

However, all that is what I'd call temporary inflation.
Once Charity Corner ends, the junk that had gone to high prices won't be donate-able until the next Charity Corner, and neither resellers nor gamblers will have much reason to purchase it.


However, the decreased supply of the junk means it will go back up in price a little, helping it and NP get circulated through the economy, and NP & items circulating is generally good for a healthy economy.


And of course, more importantly, the rare items that donation gamblers obtained either:
Get used & disappear by whoever obtained.
Get sold.

Either way, the price is likely to go down, either because 1 user was lucky enough to get an item they contributed to the demand -and thus high price of- or because there are now more of that pricey item on the market.

More sellers of a good means that there's more people who can undercut each sellers, and if they don't keep prices competitively low, they might not get to sell their item.
Sure, it's possible, some might not sell their high-demand item because they're not willing to use it, but they don't wanna sell it at the current price or they might sell at a loss.


But ultimately, Charity Corner, even after its over, helps to bring back some value to junk, and devalue rarer items.

Hey guys, which Dome would be best to farm for items to donate to the CC? I'm guessing either the Tyrannian Dome or Water Dome.

Well, first off, keep in mind, what Granny Hopbobbin gives you is based off the rarity of the first of 5 items, IIRC. May be different this year, but I doubt it, and haven't checked yet. ANYWAY....

Since this year, they're accepting food, drinks, books, furniture, gardening items, and gifts, I'd say The Dome of the Deep.

While the Ugga Dome's 2 books are a nice Rarity 87 and 90, it falls short on other donateable items, not to mention, while there is a Rarity 93 food, the other 2 food items in the Ugga Dome are above Rarity 99, making them unable to be donated.

Interestingly, the Neocola Dome has nice prizes for this, too.

Excluding the 3 much less common Neggs -at least, less common in my experience, and especially compared to the Ugga Dome- it has foods of Rarity: 66, 77, 91, & 96. Excellent donation fodder.

It also has 4 books you can donate, of Rarities 73, 78, 80, & 88.
Also, the Kreludan Defender Bot can give out Fizzy Neocola Bottles (Rarity 85)... or the Kreludan Defender Plushie.


The Dome of the Deep, however, has....

Books of Rarity 70, 76, 80, 2 Rarity 88 Books, and 1 Rarity 92 Book.

The Koi Warrior also offers, on Medium only, a Rarity 87 Book & a Rarity 89 Book, along with 3 plushies.
On Hard, however, he offers a Rarity 90 book, which should be able to get you Rarity 91-99 items if you donate it & 5 other items of the proper range.

Oh, and the arena has the Water Pizza & the Deluxe Water Pizza of rarities 96 & 97 also.
The Slug Monster there also has 500 HP on Easy, & 3 rarity 80 books in its own prize pool.


Really, this Charity Corner, you wanna be on the lookout not for just good books, but gourmet food & furniture & gifts, too.

Interestingly, the Rattling Cauldron Battledome's pool is just 26 spooky food items, 4 or so of which are in the Rarity 70 range, & all the others are in the Rarity 80 range.
Sidney on Medium there also apparently only offers 3 Rarity 80 range books.

We should probably look more into the item pools.

It is possible, but they're usually reluctant to do it. I got into my childhood account though.
You'll have to make a new account to submit a ticket.
PROTIP: Include every fucking detail you remember about your time on neopets as a kid in your ticket. Anything you can remember you did, neofriends you had, items in your SDB, etc. EVERYTHING. You're not so much proving you owned it as convincing them to let you back in.

I had an OG 1999 account I made in 5th grade, but no trace of it exists on the site today. I remember the username verbatim too. If they actually have those old accounts they said they got rid of I will freak the fuck out

I mostly sell BD loot in my shop. Even the cheapest codestones run ~3k apiece, so I'd need to sell 3000 1np items to equal just one cheapass codestone. It isn't worth the effort.

Of course, these days I just chuck everything less than like 1k in my SDB and hope it comes up in Charity Corner or a similar item drive.

Yeah, the sad truth is, if it's purged, it may be gone entirely. The username may be freed up, and any pets on it would be gone as well, with their names being free to use; Purging is in fact, the ONLY thing that frees up account and pet names, so it's possible your account and/or pet name(s) were re-used for someone else's account/pet after being freed up.

Sorry to tell you that.

For those wondering, an account becomes eligible for purging after 1.5 years of inactivity, but it can take far longer, and once a purge starts, it can take weeks to complete, supposedly.
Stay active on your account, or your pets die.
