Ao3's audience seems to favor m/m and f/f pairings, while tumblr has the whole stigma thing. FFnet has iffy things related to smut (you probably won't be banned, but as it is technically not allowed groups will tattle to mods on that site to ban you). HF has a quality check in mind so it may take a while for a story to show up.

Archive of Our Own (Ao3) is the island people swam to after the Adult Fanfiction ship started to sink. It's relatively new compared to other writing sites, but the user base is very large. It has a great system for uploading, with auto-completing tags and other handy features. It's not all smut, however, so you're sharing real estate with fart joke adventures and teenage romance.

Hentai Foundry (HF) is one of my favorites. Very easy to use for uploading, and searching. Its categories exist due to popularity, though. You know a fandom is popular when the pairings are big enough to get their own category. Users also go to HF first for the pictures, as those are front and center on the site, with writing something you have to look for. Even so, the writing community continues to thrive there.

Tumblr I would recommend using most as an advertising space than a retail one. The face of tumblr might scare off some smut writers, fearing super scrutinizing readers, but beneath that layer you can get a lot of good stuff. Tumblr's layout is garbage, though, and does not lend itself for writing longer than a few paragraphs.

Literotica is where I got my start, and remains the highest quality smut you'll find. Also makes it harder to get noticed and noticed well. Anything you submit goes through a review process that can take a few days. I've never had something rejected for being low quality, though. Just once for "You can't feature copyrighted characters that have been aged-up from their initial appearance." So Finn as an 18 year old? It's a no go. Profiles are almost never used, so hard to post up commission offers, just work you've done.

If you're writing smut this little diddy could help with what to do.

Some tips from my experience

If you are aiming for an audience, prioritize readability. A story with shit formatting will be an instant turn off. This includes (but is not limited to) the following:
Making sure to use the right spacing between paragraphs
Separating dialog appropriately, whether from 2 characters talking to each other or one who is talking for a longer period of time.
Know when to spot runons and knowing when to use commas and periods.

Afterwards you can keep an eye on technical things. For me, the biggest thing is deciding whether the story you make uses the past or present tense. It is highly recommended to choose one tense and keep it constant throughout (only a few exceptions are made when using both).
Finding a good balance between description and action is also recommended, as too much description of pointless things unrelated to the story will bore people (purple prose), but too much action will prevent them from soaking in the information provided.

From there to me it then boils down to story elements, like what happens in a plot, plot holes, the works.

If you are making a greentext story like >>7432629 and it has two characters, it is recommended that one of the characters do not have the (>) bracket when speaking to distinguish their speech from the rest of the crew. Normally the anon, or you, would not have that bracket, but it is not a 100% necessity.

Finished! I'm not 100% satisfied with how it turned out, personally, but I think it's alright. Never written a character like Sectonia before, so I'm not sure how good a job I did delivering her beauty and sexiness. Still, I'm glad I did it because it allowed me to try writing something new, without it being so foreign that I was just stumbling in the dark.

On a general critique, I've read quite a bit of your stories and how you converted them into narratives. A reoccurring theme I noted throughout your stuff would be some of the odd timing you put into telling for the narrator. Might be my preference, but I'd rather let character interactions/dialog 'tell' how they feel rather than the narrator. For example, at the end, rather than narrator telling how she refused to go back and why, she instead could embrace him and tell him herself why in the narrator's place, if that makes sense.

Either way this came out pretty good, so I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you!
