Hell even Bogo and Clawhauser had more screen time with Judy compared to Gideon, and we don't ever see those two with Judy, just makes me scratch my head is all.

It is partly because people like Gideon as the "bad kid, who was possibly abused, and came to make himself into a better person" and they want him to be happy, so they ship him with Judy. It isn't even necessarily Judeon as much as "pair Gideon with someone who will make him happy".

Also, while other characters have more screentime with Judy than Gideon does, Gideon not only has the whole character development, the whole "fox/rabbit" ship going, but is, in a way, the complete opposite of Nick. Where Nick was initially good and got beat down into a criminal, Gideon started as a bully who eventually turned his life around. Of course this is also not knowing their later situations, Nick probably not having much support growing up other than his mother, and Gideon most likely being sent by his family/his school to a doctor for his issues.

Personally I still scratch my head when I see Judeon, the only story I ever seen do it remote justice was "Starting Over", and that basically has Judy not being able to do her dream job because it was cucked from her by Jack.

Well it's not really about "screen time", so that's why you don't really see anyone shipping Judy with Bogo or Clawhauser, etc.
I think the more serious shippers are more looking at the idea that Judy and Gideon were once at odds with each other as children, and the idea of two former foes growing up to be lovers is a romantic ideal for some.
But for others, it's sometimes just for the sake of trolling Wildehopps shippers, because a lot of them tend to be pretty frothy in their devotion; lest we forget the church wars in the early days of the /trash/ threads.

I'm more in the camp of trolling with Judeon, as I prefer to more seriously ship Gideon with other characters like Mrs. Wilde or Sharla (or Nick, for shits and giggles).

Now I don't know if that meant that Nick had downtime before he was shipped off or if he had to leave right away or not.
Actual police academy in the real world seems to be as short as 6 month's to a full 12 month's.
But that's not even getting into the fact that cadets would have ride along and such before their graduation for training. And Judy never had that, so eh.

I was actually reminded of the one where Judy's husband emotionally blackmails her and she cheats with Nick before going back to her miserable life (the one the author got so much shitposting that decided adding a prologue). Most of the fics that had those they paint Judy and her <x> boyfriend/husband (be it jack or a buck or anyone really) as good friends while Nick and Judy are basically lovers without physical stuff. Same with Nick x Other vixen. Guess it's hard to come up with a backstory that compete with the amount of shit Judy and Nick went together.

I was terrified of writing Nick and Judy; the best thing I can suggest is rewatching the movie at least a little bit to pick up on their dynamic.

"Just Like Old Times", that was amusing one. I was one of the people that hated the ending, but not for Nick and Judy not ending up together. I just thought that the ending with Nick basically masturbating to the memory of Judy was a fucking weak ending. I wanted something more...complete? Have Nick and Judy realize their situation and try to fix their friendship/partnership at the very least, even if they couldn't be together. Maybe Nick finally fucking move on with his life because he knows now for sure Judy won't come back to him? Maybe have Judy, years later when the kids being so young isn't an issue, finally leaves her husband and goes to Nick?

Instead we got an ending that basically made the previous chapter irrelevant in terms of drama and seemed rushed just to appease WildeHopps.

Ya, I won't lie that entire "screen time" argument was poorly thought-out on my part, I had no idea what I was thinking when I talked about that. Since after all, SavageSkye is 3rd when it come's my favorite ships in the Zoot fandom. So that would hold zero merit for myself, I just wasn't able to understand that until now, and I thank the 3 of you for opening my eyes to that.

And yes, I completely passed over the "Enemies to Lovers" trope. And since in all essence, WildeHopps is just "Enemies to Friends to Lovers" I do now understand how people can come to that.

I always liked how they pretty much flipped emotionally, Nick gave up at first then Judy followed him when she couldn't fix him. Then Judy was the one to give up when Nick was prepared to Fix it.
It was so fucked yet rather comedic, but's not even getting into the fact that the ENTIRE fucking world refused to accept them, I mean really. When even there work started to not let them do their job's, its a bit much.

I almost wished that there was an ending where Judy did in fact, finally divorce that Buck and have her kids be old enough to support themselves. Fully expecting that Nick would finally take her back, just to meet him and see he finally moved on, and found happiness. Would have been bittersweet, but would have also made the "too little, too late" perfect. But would have also caused the WildeHopps shippers to go nutz, still it wasn't exactly a cop out. It just felt like he was under an obligation to give it a happy end, and since he didn't work on it for very long it came across as rushed.

...Which also reminds me of that one Pastebin Fic, that was made by Popo-whatever (I can't ever remember his name) that had Judy marry Jack even though she knew Nick was in love with her. But when her marriage fell apart since Jack was a cheating fuck, and Judy neglected him because of her job (which lets be real, it's his own fault for not understanding that.) Judy pretty much crawled back to Nick, but he had already moved on, which left her emotional ruined.

The angst was like a physical force for her, within that fic.

I will admit, that would have been an interesting ending. Past the obvious "OMG Nick can actually be happy without Judy?!", I would wonder how Judy would handle that. She couldn't really blame Nick for moving on, since she did that first for years, and it would perhaps bleed into her personality to never again "settle" like her parents did and what caused her to lose her final chance to be with Nick.

That kind of broke the story for me, I hate it when the prejudice against them gets that extreme. I can understand denials of service at times, I can understand perhaps their parents being against their relationship, but when it turns into Zootopia vs WildeHopps it gets into stupid territory.

This looks like this is going to be a string of "this reminds me of", because I can't help but remember "Shades of Grey (A Little Black and White)" where Judy was actually the one to give up on their relationship because of friends and family pressuring her, marry a buck and have kids, only to come back to Nick and say that she is still in love with him and not her husband, then proceeds to cheat with Nick for three years because Nick can't say no, and Judy can't bring herself to leave her husband and fight for her kids.

Now I am as a massive WildeHopps shipper as they come, and even though I adore the entire "Soulmates" perspective. Really, I wouldn't change that much with Years too late, other than emphasizing how drunk Nick is, which allowed this series of events to happen. In my opinion, I wouldn't accept an invitation into a house of my opposite gendered best friend when they are drunk enough they need help walking home. At least, I wouldn't if I was sober. I remember when I first posted the greentext people mentioned how Nick seemed almost ruthless in cutting down Judy, and while I wouldn't change that, I would put that it is a combination of him being drunk and a bitterness of being almost used in such a way.

Honestly, that is one of the main reasons behind "Years too late", I myself was getting tired at Nick basically being useless without Judy at his side. I wouldn't say he was really happy before her, but he was perhaps content with his lot in life. He was seen as a sly fox, he scammed people out of money in return, and he was generally free to do whatever he wanted.

He would definitely hurt if he lost Judy, it would be painful for him, but I doubt he would give up on life/happiness. This is a fox who has probably been hit again and again with disappointment, he can move on. Sadly the Bridge scene kind of ruins the fandom's vision of Nick himself.

Which is hilarious because they seem to be remembering exactly the opposite of what happened. Nick is chilling at the bridge when Judy comes by, and when the first thing out of her mouth is basically "I need you to help do things with me" he shuts her down and goes to leave. It's not until she admits that she was in the wrong and says that all she wants to do is fix her mistake, not even asking for forgiveness because she doesn't feel she deserves it, does he finally forgive her.

Nick's dropped Judy like a rock before and he could probably do it again, if he needed to.

He kept the pen for the entire 2-3 month period that separated them. He obviously had Finnick call him ahead of time, as evidenced by the sound of him setting up his little charade when Judy arrives at the bridge, in an effort to make her think he was just chilling, just doing fine without her.

He liked her. I'm not going to qualify what sort of like he had for her --friendship or early stages of love -- but he definitely liked her at that point.

He had also only spent two days around Judy at that point. He liked her and was willing to give her another chance and he really barely knew her. Their relationship after he becomes a cop, whether romantic or platonic, would be stronger if anything. This exactly. Sure Nick is disappointed, you can even see him shake his head as if telling himself "Why should have I expected anything different?", but he was ready to leave Judy a second time before she started apologizing. No matter how much she meant to him, Nick wasn't going to put up with any of her shit and be the "fox that is useful".

This is where I am kind of half and half; Nick dropped Judy like a rock, sure, but no matter how much they bonded, they only knew each other for two to three days. Half of that time was them being antagonistic towards each other. It is pretty easy to leave someone at that point, no matter how much you like them.

Later on, however, I would say it would be harder for Nick to "drop" Judy. By the end of the movie they have presumably known each other for about nine-months (depending on how much contact they had while Nick was at the Academy). Nick still doesn't seem like the type to put up with bullshit, but he also isn't going to leave Judy like that again, unless she royally messes up.

The pen, like the Scout Handkerchief, is a bit more ambiguous of why Nick kept it. It could easily be a reminder not to trust people as much as it could be him holding onto some hope deep down. Hell, it could be both. He definitely liked Judy, there is no doubt about that, but he isn't going to serve as some type of useful pet to get her results (which is what one could think when Judy talks about the case rather than apologize first).

See, here's where I think the sort of fundamental disconnect is about people trying to understand Nick. They think that he turned around his life just for Judy, when he didn't.

We see that he's always been a bit of a boy scout, and it was smothered under years and years and prejudice and expectation. Judy didn't make his heart suddenly grow three sizes, Judy showed him some faith and gave him a chance, which is all he needed. People ignore his backstory and just say "oh he changed his entire life because he knew a rabbit for three days" which isn't accurate. In fact, I think if Judy and Nick had a falling out he'd become a workaholic.

That is what I pretty much figured for Nick, but few rarely want to touch on it. Judy is the catalyst for Nick's change, sure, but she isn't the sole reason for it. He always wanted to be an honest person, but why should he when everyone expects him to be a stereotypical fox? He most likely doesn't want to disappoint his new friend, sure, but he also wanted to take this chance and have, what is to most, an honorable career.

Oh yeah, that's always been Laika's problem. Their best story was probably Paranorman and even that was pretty weak. They do gorgeous stop motion, though. Nobody else comes close to their level.

I felt ParaNorman was, on the whole, fairly strong. I agree that Kubo's story, generally speaking, was kind of weak but I appreciate that they didn't pull any punches. Movies that respect their audience even a little seems to be in pretty short supply these days.
