I might get a little flak for this (or I would if anyone was here) but I've always viewed these requests as more jumping-off points than anything else. If I end up writing something that matches with the request (which I do most of the time), then that's cool, but if I end up exploring something different but that I'm more interested in, that's cool too. My focus is very much on the story rather than fulfilling the request to the letter and I think the format of this thread makes that sort of indulgence acceptable.

I'm glad you like it, it's really kind of strange because I've never been into journaling but that's what I imagine it must feel like, so much so that that's what I've made the excuse for those stories into, it's just entries from Undyne's diary. I think it's a difficult balance to strike between letting her be too weak and needy and letting those moments of strength show through, but I think that considering it's a diary having that sort of internal worry is perfectly appropriate.

To quote Chekhov, "When a person expends the least amount of motion on one action, that is grace." I think that really exemplifies Undyne in a way, because my whole sense of her is that she's trying to give off the appearance of being graceful, in that sense, but on the inside she's working very, very hard to maintain it.

Here's an old example. It makes me want to scream when I look at it but it is kind of funny at the same time which is why I've kept it. They're not all Undyne related though. I don't actually practice THAT much. Since digital drawing is so easy, most of the time I'll just hit my head into a wall until it looks like something. Keep undoing and redrawing every line that doesn't look decent until it's done. In a way, every single image I've done is practice.

>I've been getting some complaints about how the Undyne I'm writing 'doesn't act like Undyne' and so on, and she doesn't. I've taken a much more literary approach to Undyne because I believe that if you limit yourself to just how she behaves in the game you're basically forcing yourself to write about an autist who's never going to develop or get better. I find it much more interesting to write an Undyne who's a real human being with flaws and worries and anxieties but who copes with and conceals them by being (or pretending to be) tough as nails. I've been trying for an Undyne who develops greatly as both a character and as a person going through these stories from start to finish and I think for the most part I've succeeded, but I don't take any pains to make her act how she does in game except for small hints and suggestions of it, because you need to tone that down to be able to do what I want to do with her.

>If that isn't something you like, I fully understand, but I would ask you to look at these stories through an interpretive lens rather than one focused on whether or not Undyne chucks spears, suplexes boulders, and eats spaghetti, because there is very little of that in here and you're destined to be disappointed if that's what you really want.

I've been trying to think of new story ideas because I like your writing but your previous stories cover up so many topics already that it's ridiculously difficult to think of anything anymore. Everytime I sort of have an idea I look through the pastebin and there's already at least two stories that are either already exactly that or something similar. The variety of stories you've done is so vast that it's hilarious to just look at the pastebin in general. Something like "Undyne gets fired" or "Teaching Undyne to play Stalker", it's mind boggling how you've managed to make stories out of these things. Aww adding in Asgore and Alphys made it pretty adorable.

I have to admit, this feels like the opening to another, longer story. It's cute and I like the way Undyne acts but it is pretty much just them thinking about her jewelry in a funny way. I would've really liked to see what happens next. Now it just kind of ends right as it's getting to the good stuff.

I do like that you kept the one she's getting married to a secret although having Alphys there is a real kick in the teeth for her character in the game. So much so that I found it kind of funny in a cruel way. Doesn't really matter though. It's not like your stories were ever about canon. I liked the story. I'd love a continuation for it.

But you've written tons of fics with sentimental stuff like that in them. What's so different about this one? What mood is going forward with it going to kill? More likely it'll give the reader catharsis.

I suppose the only thing that'll die is the mystery of who she's marrying and if you're not sure how to handle that then I can see why you'd abstain from writing it.
