Morrowind Argonians have digitigrade legs. It's actually not anatomically correct considering reptiles are plantigrade, but it's there and so are mods to attempt to give them an equivalent in the other games.

In terms of humanoids, the Elder Scrolls games have always struck me as having pretty simplistic mechanics. As if they'd have difficulty producing more exotic playable races.

This is actually really helpful, and I remember learning about it in school. Only problem is I'm not really sure what Smaug would do as far as the "actual challenge and call." He is very much the big bad of the stories and I can only think of a few ways to bring him down a few notches on the power level chart. I could write about his early life when he was younger and weaker, though that would require a lot of backstory and universe building I don't feel confident making. The other option is to meddle around with some 'rebirth' or 'second chance' stuff after his death, maybe having him weakened in some way (without being retarded and making him human) but frankly I can't think of any reason why a higher power would give a giant evil lizard a second chance, or how it would be in character for him to improve himself to be good or redeemable. You lose a lot of his character that way in my mind, and frankly Smaug's character seems to stubborn and selfish to every think he needs to change himself.
