All of these get a free full turn every time one of your soldiers performs an action, and they can withdraw from battle within two turns.

Basically, Vahlen and her research team found an Advent craft that contained embryos of the Viper, Muton, and Archon types of aliens. She then cloned them, removing the genetic limiters put in place by Advent, which restricted the sex and removed a lot of their abilities, making the Viper King, the Berserker Queen, and the Archon King, powerful aliens with dozens of points of health and, more importantly, the ability to move every time each and every one of your soldiers does as a, "Ruler Reaction." They also try to teleport away when you take off too much of their health, though their health stays constant between fights.

It makes fighting them hard until you realize that acid, fire, and poison all trigger on turn timers, not round timers, so, with the right setup, every time one of your units has a turn, that ruler is taking poison, acid, and fire damage, and whatever damage your weapon deals if you attack it.

They're hard, but they're supposed to be hard.

Vahlen's entire research team got wiped when Subject Gamma(the Viper King) slipped containment into a small crack in his containment area and started breeding with a nearby group of Vipers. The fact that he breathes ice, allowing him to shatter the glass wall at the front of his cell, didn't hurt the attempt much either.

Did I mention that their effect counter also goes down with extra turns? That is, if you - for example - use the mod's new grenade to freeze one in place it won't be frozen for two turns like other units, but for two of your soldiers' actions.
Out of a total 12 maximum. Yes, those things can perform 14 actions a turn if you bring 6 soldiers.

You get stupid powerful armors for killing them.

The Serpent Suit has a grappling hook that can be used to get around the map, but can also be used to freeze targets, with, I think, a 50% chance to yank them out of cover. Paired with a good health bonus, a decent dodge bonus, and a high chance to automatically panic vipers that see your team wearing it, well.

The RAGE Suit gives you the equivalent of the Ranger's Slash move, but with a kinetic ram, usable once per mission without using an action, a radius burst slam attack, better health, and a point of armor, and the chance to panic mutons, including berserkers.

The Icarus Armor gives you jump jets, letting you scale buildings easily, and a jetpack that lets you do a pseudo-teleport to any point on the map you have vision to as a free action twice a mission, decent health and, I think, dodge chance, bonus mobility, and auto-panic chance for archons.

Panicked aliens attack their allies for a few turns.

So, one of the complaints I've heard about xcom2 (reboot) is that it simplified things way beyond the original.

My opinion is more along the lines that it streamlined down to the essential game experience but I can see a couple loose ends that would upset really good fans of the original. And one of them is that your soldiers become crack shots, but never supermen in the original.

That sounds like superman and I suppose I can see the un-appeal.

It's more of the same with minor tweaks. The armors have hard limits on how often you get to use their abilities. The freeze with a coin flip to pull from cover is usable once per mission and is only as accurate as you are with a gun.

You also only get a single suit of each armor.

On problems, the only problem I have is with the DLC. It gives you four special weapons: the bolt caster(a vertically-aligned crossbow that hucks a meter long sharpened steel rail with a chance to stun), the shadowkeeper(pistol with better accuracy and can grant concealment on enemy kill once a mission), the hunter's axe(a pair of axes, one of which you can throw once a mission as a free action with the same damage as the normal slash), and the frost grenade(small radius grenade that freezes those caught in it).

But they're, "so advanced that they can't be replicated," so if one of your soldiers dies while carrying it, and you can't retrieve their body, you lose it. Period. No way to get it back. Even though the, "Neonatal Vipers," in the first mission of the DLC are all carrying the damn things.

Got currently a scifi campaign ending this weekend with a twist for players, which might be picked up again at another moment in time, but I'm burned out on it at the moment.

Going to start playing again in a shadowrun game right after, this time as player instead. Same group, more or less

Also have a pathfinder campaign running for 4 years now, for 4months at a time during summer.

No dragons in the sci-fi one. Shadowrun ofc has dragons and last campaign, the group was working for a minor dragon who liked to collect human eroticism novels and had a passion for engineering, leading him to "hoard" engineering companies.

pathfinder one, most dragons are dead. There's one lurking about behind the scenes that we know of. My character has a pet "dragon" and likes to terrify the peasantry with it.
He's actually not a dragon but a pseudodragon, being an offworld entity summoned by my summoner. They kind of fell in love back when the character was a cultist in a daemon worshipping doomsday cult and fled that.

Now they're roaming about, being cataclysmic nuisances to governments around the world and gently fugging in taverns before usually burning them down. They recently bought land and built a large castle. Both are guys.

To be quite honest, 5th ed is.... mixed.

Its quite easier to learn and very streamlined, but its also very streamlined and way too casual.

I've had a really fun campaign DMing a group of newbs in 5th but imho you should graduate to 3.5, 3.pf or literally any other system after that. it streamlines characters to the point you essentially become a cutout of your class archetype and nothing else, there's very little room for character customization.

I can somewhat understand Nintendo being behind Sony and especially Microsoft in the online department because they're a much smaller company and may have not had the same kind of network engineers, but they definitely need to improvise and I'm not sure if going with a phone app is the best way to do things.

The single NES/SNES game available for free seems like a very pitiful exchange indeed considering any schmuck can emulate, though it doesn't seem surprising when you consider how much Nintendo prices them on the eShop. They have an inflated sense of their value and it's not helping, them adding in online play isn't really a deal maker. Not an overall great 'bonus' regardless of whatever the price will be.

The gameplay is fine, its just that it was rushed to be on ps3 when it clearly needed to be on ps4 so the gameplay runs terribly.
If anything, its the tone of story that would turn off a fan of other games. Unlike Drakengard 1 and Nier, Drakengard 3 is tossing sex jokes left and right, but then will just suddenly get really dark and serious.
I like the story still and Mikhael makes it all worth it for me.

Just watch the cutscenes on youtube or something.
