I think she's just called "Skateboard girl" by everyone so really you could go with anything.

Going with the Undertale naming scheme it'd be something tentacle related. Undyne is named after Undines and Fuku fire is a fire girl so we might as well call her "Hotep" or "Nya" after Nyarlathotep. Or we could just give her some cheesy 90's rad girl name like Jessy or Buffy.

The part with Fukus notebook was indeed cute. I'm a little surprised you took the literal fire route with her not being able to touch Undyne. Makes her surprisingly tragic. Most people just ignore it because "lol magic" and the fact that hers and Grillbys clothes aren't burning off either.

Taking tropes to their extremes is a fun idea. I always struggled with any kind of writing assignment because I wanted to avoid all tropes so desperately out of pride. Usually ended up with almost nothing being written.

Make sure you're paying attention to tense, you had a few issues there, especially in the first couple paragraphs, where you're jumping around a lot.

Alphys snores but then she says she was awake the whole time. If she was pretending to snore maybe give a hint about that? Otherwise it just looks like something you forgot.

Personally, as far as formatting is concerned, I really dislike the use of an entire line break between paragraphs, but that's just my taste.

Overall this was nice and cute. I think in terms of the writing you ought to be aware of passivity and try to avoid telling a little more, but your writing was serviceable and I didn't have any major problems with it.

I'll just plug myself too, I'll be a little busy for the next hour or so but after that I'll be around for a while, so if anyone wants a story written, let me know and I'll get right on that.

Damn. I just finished reading the Cthulu crossover story that the writefriend wrote. By far one of my favourite ones, with many thanks to the setting. There was a strong sense of fear and strength that emanated from Undyne which made me think of her as a protector but also as a captor-type figure towards the 2nd person character. I quite like this interpretation of Undyne, though it scares me just as much as I like it.

Actually, speaking of these deities, since Shub-Niggurath (for the monster gotes) is a thing you could almost make a Lovecraft AU universe. I bet there are other deities and such in the lore that would make parallels to Undertale.

I think my main issue with this is the past tense; I felt like present tense would have made it feel a lot more driven. In past tense it feels kind of dull and measured. The writing itself was fine but I felt there were a few times where you were a little clumsy and passive. Line 5, for instance, I kept wishing that instead of rushing through you'd linger and expand on stuff like that. That's more personal preference, though.

One 'moment of silence' is enough, don't press it.

Oh yes, because heaven forbid I give someone feedback when they're asking for it.

I write the way I write because it works. Writing in the present tense makes a story feel dynamic, writing in the past tense makes a story feel like a memory, writing in the future tense makes a story feel weird. If you're any good at all you'll use whatever is appropriate for the story, and you can mix and match, you can write a flashback in past and go ahead and talk about the future or whatever.

I don't have a monopoly on the present tense. If somebody was copying me they'd be copying the stuff I do on a more granular level, like my clipped sentences or bursts of description or whatever. Encouraging someone to use the present tense when it's appropriate isn't saying 'write more like me.'

Why is that name so familiar... it makes me think of the Disney's recess show but I can't remember anymore... Still a hilariously cheesy name.

It was a little silly as I was expecting but damn if it isn't hot. Lines like "with a roar like a forest fire and a spray of plasma from between her legs" can really kill a mood though by being too funny.

How long did it take you to come up with a solution to the fire problem? It was surprisingly inventive if a little strangely realistic for Undertale monsters.

I agree, I'm a little iffy on that line but it's whatever, that's basically what I was envisioning happening and I couldn't come up with a more delicate way to put it.

I feel like it's not realistic at all, honestly, just unrealistic in a different way than normal for Undertale. Undyne here would easily fall under the "this isn't Undyne" category that many Undertale purists would have. That being said, I love this type of Undyne. She is quite more homely and quite more mature, suggesting a deep growth in character from being tied in a relationship.

Also her degradation in writing near the end there was well done. You didn't stray away from it being "Undyne writing a sexy letter" to "Undyne found time to write smut for her boyfriend."

Yeah, I keep coming to the conclusion that the Undyne I'm writing is really just an older, more mature, less crazy Undyne, which I guess some people don't like but personally it's the only way I can stomach the character as anything other than a sex object. I always have to try and feel out whether people like what I'm doing with the character or not, I don't really get a good sense of that on here.

I'm glad you liked the whole thing toward the end, I thought I might have been laying it on a little thick but it also struck me as exactly something Undyne would end up doing.

I would say your Undyne here is pretty well-received. At the very least we don't dislike it. It helps that us "fishermen" are interested in her character and are willing to play with her personality a lot more. While the "vanilla" Undyne is more exciting, it must be quite hard to do much with that base character design. Especially so when you want to do a story that is focused around Undyne as opposed to her being a secondary character.

I thought it was something the canon Undyne would totally do but I remember thinking at the same time 'Jesus Christ, this guy isn't her boyfriend, he's her babysitter.' The vanilla Undyne works really well in Undertale but as soon as you take her out of there things start falling apart, and while I think there's a really great story in trying to like rehabilitate and resocialize the autistic fish, it's not one I want to write, I'd rather just write Undyne as a reel human bean.

I honestly don't think your interpretation of Undyne is too far off from the game's depiction. In the game characters have to express themselves through short snippets of dialogue, so it makes sense for them to be exaggerated, but with longer form writing you can sort of "spread out" the more exaggerated character traits, which I think you mostly manage to do.

Agreed; I've read too many one-dimensional rehashes of the same "Undyne's loud and Alphys is anxious" story elsewhere to complain when someone actually delves into her character.

Personally I'd be really interested in a story about the "between" Undyne, whatever spurred her to become that more mature person. The longer story where Alphys and her talk about why they broke up was captivating for that reason.

Also heartbreaking. But believable.

I agree, I think it's nice I've been getting some requests with different characters like Fuku and Octavia lately, it's been nice to branch out. I do want to write something a lot more character-driven and literary but I'm a little burnt out on big stories for the time being, it's nice to just relax writing smut and little slice-of-life things.

Thinking about it if undyne and I were a couple we'd be the most obnoxious couple I'm existence.
