description's fairly accurate. the only thing I'd quibble about is the NSFW part, as I'm not planning to have any really explicit sex in it. there's some implied stuff and definitely sexuality. There's violence, sure, but I don't think anybody would really tell you to stop reading, say, one of the Bourne novels if you were at work, ergo, while it's not specifically "for kids" so to speak, I don't think it's quite NSFW.

it's kind of weird, now I think of it, just how much leeway novels get when it comes down to sex and violence. Firstly, apologies for the off-topic reaction image. I actually don't have any appropriate reaction images for this thread, so sorry for that.

If anything I should be thankful to you guys. Had I not dropped in and been inspired by Penny, then I'd never have created the little duo.

It's kind of funny, I'd been thinking of how to do a spy story for months before I joined /squeak/ and never had any success, but the moment I started thinking of them as rodents everything fell into place.

Seriously though, you guys genuinely inspired me as a writer. With the holidays finally over, many celebrities and important people are trying to find time to relax and unwind before heading back to work. This means plenty of visits to luxurious resorts and sunny beaches to escape the winter chill.

What is it that let's mice and rats fit so well into fantasy?
Any other species, wolves, foxes, bears, you see them in a campaign and it just screams "Furry"

I may or may not have mentioned this before, but their small size makes them prime candidates as characters of surprising courage and bravery. Most stories about mice and rats are stories of them doing things most people wouldn't dare do in similar situations; Fighting gigantic enemies, aiding and assisting creatures that would normally easily kill them, diving straight into certain peril and danger to save the life of a loved one, etc.

Mice also frequent in stories where their roots are in insignificance and strife, but through their hard work and determination they overcome the odds and end up on top, or as the victor, or at least happy and propserous.

In a way, the lil squeakers are admirable characters of virtue, hard work, courage, and blood, sweat, and tears. The struggles of the mouse often greatly reflect the struggles of man; To rise from the soil of squalor and poverty, to see and conquer, to love and be loved, to understand and be understood, and to live peacefully in the end. At the same time, much like humans, mice and rats can be agents of chaos and mischief, usually in a harmless sense than harmful, unlike the kind of trouble wolves and foxes get into in fables and fiction. (Examples: Mouse Guard, Redwall, An American Tale, Beatrix Potter's tales, The Secret of NIMH, Master Splinter, Aesop's Fables, etc)

Depends on the degree of humanoid jaw structure, I guess. I don't know about eating - real mice and rats seem to eat just fine - but one might expect they'd sound less human the longer and more rodent-like their jawbones were. They might also have trouble pronouncing certain sounds without distortion due to the diastema (the gap on either side of the front teeth) and buckteeth. Imagine that every mousegirl you meet has a cute lisp...

They'd also have to conscientiously keep their buckteeth worn down lest they lose the ability to use them, though that perhaps relates more to health than talking. The idea of anthro rodents having public or private gnawing sessions to take care of their teeth (and maybe being able to buy gnawing stuff from the local shops, specifically for this) is kind of intriguing.

It's an MMO, pretty comparable to older WoW as it came out around the same time, and WoW was kind of using EQ's format to begin with.

I enjoy the lore and setting of EQ2 a lot more, though, and the artstyle resonates better with me (it's not as outlandish and overblown). There's lots of content to play around with, and it's pretty solo friendly. No subscription needed to play, but you have the option to for some added benefits.

And obviously it has Ratonga.

Additional note, the game is in the middle of a "city festival", which happens for the first week of every month. It allows you to buy some special appearance items (like different colored variants of the pictured outfit) as well as the "invisible" appearance items for easy to obtain currency.

There's been a bit of ratfolk discussion from time to time on that board, and it's almost always positive. I personally love fantasy worldbuilding (even if nothing comes out of it) and ratfolk are just such a fun plot element.
