On one hand, I'm fine seeing this cute AU where Nick & Judy are happy growing up as basically step-siblings. And to keep it at that.

...On the other, I also want them to start exploring each other and start a relationship in secret. Sadly, the one story that did explore that... for some reason, the flow of the text just didn't hook me.

>>
>>6910643
No, I feel you. I've actually sort of thought about that general timeline. Obviously Nick and Judy would have to become police officers together. They'd probably end up discovering Lionheart's involvement though good old-fashioned police work instead of a lot of luck, and Nick knowing how to reign in Judy more than in the movie itself.

At that point I'm not really sure where it would go and still be interesting, because a Judy who's lived with Nick for over a decade isn't gonna slip up at the press conference, and the only conclusion I can come to is that Nick gets darted.

>>
>>6910721
>and the only conclusion I can come to is that Nick gets darted.

What you'd probably have to do is have Nick dig further, maybe on a savage mammal, he finds a trace of serum and he looks into it, he manages to leave leave a note "Nighthowlers not wolves!!" after he's shot by Doug and he goes savage.

Then Judy is given forced leave because she's burnt herself out trying to find out what Nick's note means, then have Gideon show up and reveal the Nighthowler name.

Not perfect, and Nick wouldn't be there when Judy confronts Bellwether, but it's a start hopefully.

I think Nick might realize the scope of what's happening as he's going savage and drop one final hint that Judy has to follow up on. For example, I don't think it's unlikely that Nick might have heard the story about Uncle Terry when he was younger at some point to make him feel more comfortable while Judy doesn't, and he might drop something about it while he has the chance.

The rest of it could be Judy trying not to crack under the pressure of her brother, best friend, and potential forbidden love interest sitting in a hospital out of his mind, while trying to channel him and his style of investigation as much possible to solve what's going on. Either way I don't think she'd be willing to run away to Bunnyburrow while Nick was locked up in Zootopia.

The one with Jude's family in her apartment and ended with Stu trying to clarify that Nick wasn't her boyfriend?
>>
>>6911060
I think it was the cut scene where Judy takes Nick to her apartment, where her family surprises her by being in the city.

Stu assumes that she's dating him, but they don't go further because it's revealed that Judy is actually a meter maid, which pisses Stu off enough that he tries to force Judy back home and Nick stands up for her.

Basically, it's a ship tease that I don't think was outright denied, but it was a pretty weak way for Nick to stick up for Judy. Which is why it was replaced with the Bogo scene after Manchas, and Stu & Bonnie were elated that Judy was a meter maid.

So someone noticed someone posting a new "artist's" work to e621, and wanted to share the yuks because of the descriptions.

There were two: one of the artist's OC, a fucking humanoid alien spider or something, having a harem of pop culture furry girls, Judy included.

Then he made the pic in the top of the recap, where his spider OC has shapeshifting powers, killed Nick, and essentially raped Judy as Bucky & the apartment owner looks on in horror.

Then someone noticed the Bucky was traced from one of weaver's comics, which he then confirmed, and we all made detective on that day.

Fucking shapeshifting humanoid alien spider OC. I'm not nearly drunk OR high enough to make that shit up.

Nobby is good at setting the tone in his pictures and manages to do a lot with his relatively sparse style.
MisterEAnon does a pretty good job at painting with words and writes enjoyable pieces with characters that don't feel stilted.
Gud is exceedingly gud at making bite-sized pieces of content that are nonetheless poignant.

I would write more but trying to think and having a migraine at the same time isn't fun.

I really don't know how to choose.
I love Pelag's shading.
I love the humongous (yet very interesting) works MisterE creates in a matter of hours.
I love the cutie patootieness of Zhan's drawings.
I love the work of Translatoranon, so unique and irreplaceable.
I love Aestheticanon's catchy tunes.
I love Nobby's extremely fast yet very good drawings.
I love Popo's greentexts, they make me want to continue reading them.
I love Comicanon's useful readthroughs.
I love the anatomical correctness of Kam's drawings.
I love Rose's technique, that gives rise to such cute drawings.
I love Pandanon's music, you can feel the passion behind it.
I love the sense of solidity you can feel from Alec's drawings.
I love Bobo's use of colours.
I love many things about many CCs.
Actually, I can find a good point in every CC.
Gud, Raccoonfag, Nate, Visiti, Donk, Moped, Boney_M, Finnickfag, Nero, Canidae, Mead, KK, etc. I did not forget you, I just wrote the first names that came to my mind.

Let's see...
I can't really speak for writefags since I'm a shit reader, but I feel like their contributions are invaluable. It takes a lot to craft words in a way that makes you see and feel, and I commend anyone who can do so.

Nobby's stuff has this sort of raw feeling that I like.
Rose's stuff is just adorable, even the lewds.
Kam's art has the perfect mix of animal and zootopian, if that makes sense at all.
Gud's style is so distinct I could pick it out of a line of 2 minute scribbles. I feel like even when he's drawing goofy shit it's so distinctively his.
I don't know about Middry's writing, but his art has really won me over.
Zhan's stuff is really sweet. His art is pretty heartwarming.
Donk's stuff is just hilarious.
Moped I haven't seen a lot of, but he has a nice cartoony style that I enjoy.
KK draws the sauciest ladies. Don't get me started.

I know that's not everyone. I've never been good with names, and I'm also relatively new compared to lots of people here. Still there's a lot of nice CCs and content being made. Happy to be around for it.
>>
How do I control the envy that I feel for other artists?

Whenever I do requests whether here or elsewhere it feels like people only thank me because they're obligated to because I did something for them -- not because of the actual skill of the drawing. Itfeelsforced. other peoples compliments seem much more genuine and geared toward the actual art than the artist
im not sure.
i know that i should use better artists as motivation
i know that there will always be someone better than me
i don't know if i would even feel better if i improved
i dont know where this feeling of inadequecy stems from
it just feels empty inside. im sorry its 4am and im preetty out of it right now sorry for venting im goin gt osleep now im sirry
>>
>>6912540
Foster that envy into purpose, by learning the essentials of anatomy and perspective, and applying that to your drawings. It takes years, just never give up.
>>
>>6912540
I draw because it has a chance to make people happy.
I draw because doing so makes me happy.

I won't pretend I never want to be recognized, but if the only reason you do so is for attention, you're going to be disappointed no matter who you are.

All you can do is keep drawing. A true artist is never completely satisfied with their skill, and that's part of what drives them to do better. There are many artists here I'd consider far better than me, but I don't envy them at all. They likely worked just as hard as you or I have. If you get noticed, that's great, if you don't, just keep drawing.

Do it for you anon. Find what truly drives you to create and hold onto it. With that, you'll find other reasons.

>>6912648 is also correct.

bbb.png
15KB, 400x400px
>>6912540
You feel envy?
Then explore it. Why are you feeling envy?
What did this artist do better then me?
How can I do it myself?
If you can't see other artists as motivation see them as lessons. As lessons on how to improve, what to improve.
Even if I do not feel envy since I know I am still in training I know how much desire can stem in having your abilities recognized. And I'm using it. I'm actually studying Alec's tubedudes and Nobby's shading/use of colour to improve myself. I'm still far away from the peak but I can see how high I climbed.
Use that inadequacy and transform it in a powerful weapon to improve yourself.

It doesn't make it canon, but it teases at the possibility. Before, we had no standard of interspeices because Clawhauser's lust for Gazelle could be seen as gay fanboy devotion. Now we have Bucky and Pronk, even though their animal families are more closely related than a rabbit and a fox. Stu asking out of nowhere if the man she's taking to her room was her boyfriend would mean that pred/prey relations weren't unthinkable.

>The buck rabbit panted, breath coming out in ragged gasps as his body was pushed to the limit. Every muscle ached, his chest burned, his heart pounded in his chest with the sheer exertion. Nothing, not field training, not deployment, not even that fling with the drill instructor had prepared him for this. But Jack Savage was not one to quit, he rose to meet every challenge. He was the best, of the best, of the beat and wasn't about to be outdone by some two-bit country couple.

>"Ni-Nick..."

>"Hang in there..."

>There was a sense of pressure, a peaking as two forms came together as one. Twin yelps sounded in the empty locker room, followed by a near silence, only broken by the slowing panting of two bodies, still locked together in a hot embrace. Slowly things quietened down, until suddenly a soft click echoed in the dim light.

>"Give me the phone Nick."

>"Whaaat? This phone?"

>"Hand it over."

>"But we need proof! You know Mr Grey doesn't trust my word! Not after the pawpsicle incident"

I love circlejerks like this, so here we go:

A_signature. Their art might not be that great rn (like line placement, proportions etc.), but I can see them grow into an artist with a skill level of Nobby, Mead or replyto. Their TT submissions are proof of an ambitious artist in training. I want to see them reach their full potential.

TTG. From the first time I joined this thread you could see their passion and ambition. Witnessing them become more confident in line art evokes a deep feeling of respect towards them. This is what I want to see a_signature turn into.

Rose. Even though she's been mentioned a few times already I just have to say that she's an awesome artist, both digital and traditional. She has knowledge of so many aspects of drawing that she could answer almost every question you have about it (hint hint). Rose also inspired me to get into inking traditionally, which is great fun all around and you should try it too! But be careful though, it can get messy.

MisterE. Super ambitious writer. I don't get why they feel unworthy all the time when they deserve to feel confident and proud instead. I love their tiger/coyote pairing. Their ability to produce a great amount of fics that all maintain a certain level of quality in a short time is remarkable. If you look up ambitious in the dictionary you'll most likely find a picture of them there.

Labjer. Another reason why I discovered the joy of inking. Great ability to build worlds and bring them on paper. Never stops doing it and honestly shouldn't either.

Writeanon. Not around anymore as far as I know, but wrote the fantastic "Water Under the Bridge", which imo is the best fanfic I've read yet.

Comic. /ztg/'s caretaker. I adore his reads and photoshops. Helps people all around and you don't even have to pay him.

Mead. Because Mead. (his style is something admirable)

Nobby. Gotta go fast, but not too fast.

Speaking of which, I finally got some reading done on "how bunny soldiers were supplied".

When you think of medieval warfare, I think we all think of the same idea: thousands of ironclad knights marching into battle with weapons and shields and banners raised high, with castles and kings and honor and nobility and king and country! But was that really how it was?

Well, lets take a look into some history books...

The first question is, what did soldiers have? Well, not a full set of plate with a steel sword and giant shield! Those were rare, since it cost a lot of money to produce such items. Granted, with them, you'd pretty much be an unstoppable killing machine, but a king would be wise not to spend all their money on gear like that, unless they want an insurrection full of unstoppable killing machines who want better roads and food and maybe just your crown. Armor and weapons like that was usually relegated to the nobility, the king's closest crew. Otherwise, soldiers would have to supply themselves with their own armaments, which were usually thick padded clothing that was affordable and warm and lasted a long time, and anything sharp and pointy to stick into the other mammal.

But that's only one part of the equation! What else did an army need? Consider all the things that we have today that we didn't have back then: paw sanitizer, cell phones, and microwaveable carrot dinners for one!

Although the image we have of medieval soldiers are of shining knights, that was probably far from the truth, considering 'daily showers' is a relatively new concept (and if you've ever gone to Zootopia's Comic Con, you'll know its not one followed by everyone). Lice and disease spread quickly, and soldiers more content with making a living by making others not live spent many nights digging temporary ditches in the ground when on the move. Only the top brass had luxuries we take for granted today, such as tents and cleaning slaves.

Likewise, most often, very little was planned beyond "lets all march thataway and kill the bad guys!" This was because war back then was less complex than you'd expect. Most battles were decided by numbers, so as long as you had more shabby, dirty, lice-infested murderers behind you than your opponent, you didn't need to think too hard about which regiments to send in first. Without needing to think too hard about things other than getting soldiers from A across B to fight at C to kill D enemy, you usually didn't plan for things like them getting enough food.

Speaking of food, we all know that an army marches on its stomach-- but what did they eat? Considering that they already had to carry weapons and armor and probably nobles on chariots, how did they pack for all the food they'd need? Well, they didn't! They just ate take-out! In that they'd take you out of your home and eat your food. Armies were known to leave devastation in their path as they roved their way to battles, killing far more civilians than soldiers. In fact, pillaging and plundering made up a lot of a soldier's pay! And if you ever felt like you weren't earning as much as the next guy, just kill them and take their stuff!

With how horrible the life of a soldier sounds, what's with the disconnect between the image we have of medieval soldiers and reality? What about all those paintings of noble knights marching into battle? Well, remember again that knights were the ones who could afford the fanciest armor, so they were also the only ones who could afford the fanciest artists! Art back then was mostly about ego building, and you'd want to portray yourself as cool as possible, so the first thing you'd tell your artist is to take some liberties with how you portray the filthy marauders you sacked countrysides with.

Given all this historical perspective, I prefer having fun reading comics or going to Renaissance fairs where we pretend rather than experience it like it used to be.

Hey /ztg/, I have a question for the artists:

Can your ability to draw degrade? Like can you get worse at drawing, even though you've kept at it? What should you do to prevent this, if something like "art-stagnation" exists?
>>
>>6914914
>Can your ability to draw degrade?
yes and very fast
>>
>>6914914
Yes it exists. It even occurs if you just stay the same, as you should be improving year after year.

One thing you need to remember is to challenge yourself. Just drawing the same thing over an over again doesn't challenge you. You need to focus on the fundamentals, even if that doesn't get you the internet butt pats.

Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

Size and species definitely had a part of it, but the key is numbers of soldiers! And bunnies, for the most part, wanted very little to do with fighting: its messy, nasty business that took time away from growing crops. Not only that, but all those roving armies would love to plunder burrows for grain and carrot stockpiles.

So what's a bunny colony to do? Well, why fight when you can get someone else to do it for you? Bunnies would swear fealty to other mammalian kingdoms as farmers and pay them for protection. The kingdoms would have an incentive to protect them, seeing as they were strategically placed to serve as food stops for their own armies.

Speaking of food, I'm starving! I'm going to cook myself up some breakfast before tackling work for the day!
>>
>>6914871
>>6914878
I wonder if the buns or other vegy eating medieval types ate grass. Could an army of buns survive on it or would that be a little too low brow for them?

Thank you bun bun, these medieval bun learning corners are very fun and informative. I hope to bully you with more questions later.

I mean it happens
stagnation is a very real thing, it's like the main fear on /ic/

there's two ways I go about fixing it
I try to draw every day, even if it's just some sketchbook doodle, and I try to vary my exercises (live drawing, interiors, landscape, etc)

it's hard to say how you're doing and if you're stagnating unless you're looking at your work in review, but it's hard to get worse if you're continually drawing.

I know this subject is very subjective and I respect the act of perfect practice, but I've seen a video by Plague denouncing perfect practice.
Instead one should focus on drawing with as many different methods as possible. One shouldn't only draw lines, but also paint, explore both digital and traditional formats, etc.
One should also not be afraid to expand their own horizon through challenges, like you said already. Is he right though?

Alright, I believe I understand what you mean. It's not really relevant at the stage I am rn though, as any kind of practice helps me get better.
It just makes me wonder that many artists (especially in the furry community) seem to get criticized for being stagnant to the point that they actually regress in their skill.
I get that these cases often times stay for monetary purposes/fame, but it feels like they betray art somehow. It's not hard garnering attention for your art and initially it's not a bad thing. But if that's more important than improving then I want no part of it.

Heya buddies!

Several months, huh? Then you have a lot of catching up to do!

I suggest starting here:
http://t3event.tumblr.com/

Thematic thursday is a bi-monthly event where we vote on themes and make content around them! The latest one was Christmas! There are a ton of fics and images to check out!

Outside of that, we have tons of content creators making some amazing things, from fics to comics to even animations and games!

As other anons have noted, we have a ton of content creators from the beginning still around, and we get new artists heading over, too! As well, many anons are picking up drawing or writing for the very first time!

The threads are just as comfy as ever, and it seems like there's always some new amazing thing discovered or created every day.

Ah jeez I didn't expect to be remembered. I've been drawing a lot, just not any zoo (not properly anyway). I'm sort of drifting in and out of different things, some pokemon, some horse, it's fun to draw other stuff, and I've sort of missed the foxdick. Can't promise anything soon though.

Also its not right for me to be the only person known to be doing blind reads! We have Clunk, who does personal readings on Vocaroo for people in the thread!

And we have Longjing, or Brother of Tea, who has just started! I love his voice! Check out his reading of the Christmas poem here!
https://soundcloud.com/longjing/twas-the-night-before-tt

And Canidae does reads as well! Her edits are super good, cause she's a teacher IRL! Check out her YouTube channel!

And mine as well.

Take your time, buddy! These threads are all for good fun and becoming better artists together and exploring a very cool world, so you do you and we'll be happy you're along for the ride, whether you draw, comment, post pics, or just lurk!

We're just happy to have you back here again.

No problem.
A great way to begin again would be Thematic Thursday.
We decide the theme in the week of 5 January, the submission is due 12, if I remember correctly

Finally sat down and finished this.

Short Tails - Chapter 4: Moonrunes.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/6682150/chapters/15427981

Nick is stuck in the hospital after being grazed by a nighthowler pellet and struggles against his newfound aggression.

I managed to capture exactly how I felt after reading this chapter.
