To be fair, Skye was just a mechanic arctic fox that we figured Jack knew/was partners with. Past that, she is surprisingly shallow when it comes to the characterization/background department. Skye just has the position of the first arctic fox (if we don't count the triplets) so any that come after her, and happen to know Jack, get dubbed "Skye".

This; even when he was trying to be as unhelpful as possible Judy still found Nick somewhat funny/likeable (the slight smile when Nick messed with her in the limo, praising him when he manipulated Mr. Manches). Once they became friends and Nick dropped his guard a bit, that charm only increased with his silliness (asking if Bellwether counts herself when going to sleep Judy just playfully tells him to shush, and when Nick gave her the advice before the press conference).
Even Nick's "sarcastic" response to Bogo wasn't bad and more of just playful banter that everyone found amusing. If Nick did it CONSTANTLY I could see people getting annoyed, but he doesn't strike me as the type of person to use a joke many times in a row.

Welcome to the biggest problem with Zistopia, that people only really started to realize after the comic came back from its first hiatus:

NicholasWilde's insistence of shoving in tumblrina identities.

It's not enough to just say that Nick and Judy, a fox male and rabbit female respectively, are attracted to each other. No, they have to be panspecial, pansexual, whatever. They have to have a special name for it.

Gwen, the Skye-alike, gets upset that Nick wants to deny his attraction to Judy, because she somehow gets triggered about how "if you think you're a freak, then you must think I'M a freak" freakout, despite the fact that Nick in the flashbacks seemed cool that Gwen had a girlfriend, and no one EVER insinuated that her sexuality was abnormal.

I'll give NW a sliver of credit that they didn't go as far as tumblr can go (ex. Nick is actually transwoman who's gender fluid, etc), but they put too much focus on the gender/sexual traits of the characters than making Zis about the collars, like what the original idea was SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT.

And then to compensate, you get Project MKUltra happy coma zombies.

I figured that freakout came from an argument a long time ago that they merely chose to ignore. Honestly I get the whole pansexual shtick in Zootopia, I think it could even be interesting. The problem with that interpretation is that it depends on a confrontation that the audience has never seen before nor had it hinted at.

We see Gwen here for the first time, hanging off of another vixen, Nick makes a crack about how they used to date, but things are different for obvious reasons, and that's it.

Any writer can bring up character backstories that aren't much explained, but ones worth their salt only do so if they ever intend to explore or explain them in some way, and that'll never happen.

We will never find out about what caused Gwen Skye's realization that she's gay, or how much drama it caused when they broke up.

Zistopia isn't about Gwen; hell, it's barely about the collar at this point. The comic is about Nick and Judy's relationship in a 70's esque Protopia society.

The problem I have with calling interspecies couples "pansexual" is that it compares real life interracial couples as more than they are. A white Jewish guy who marries a Chinese woman isn't more "special" than Akira and Akane who are both Japanese, for example.

I simply found her eyes to be a little more slanted than what Byron usually draws.
It can be a quirk of her. It can be because it is a similarity with arctic foxes. It can be that it is Byron that wanted to draw like that.

I personally think there are many points for her being an arctic fox, among all the species of foxes that seems the most feasible.
The similarity in some anatomical parts to the masseurs posted in other concept art, the brightness of her fur and the confirmations that she is full size fox and not a fennec make me lean toward the interpretation that she is a fox of the arctic species.
Red foxes, fennecs, Ruppel's foxes, tibetan foxes, gray foxes and similia seems much more unlikely.
The only one I can say I have doubts is the corsac fox. It fits her better in some ways, but it is a rarely known species of fox and I don't think that at Disney they want to move away from the more known ones.

A few months after the end of the movie, Nick is offered a job in acting. His first role? Sidekick to famous spy movie master Jack Savage.

Judy finds out that Nick left a helpless fox kit bleeding to her death on the snow after an accident through an anonymous tip. Desperate to find out the truth, she confronts Nick about it, but he denies. Being the good cop she is, she manages to get a confession out of him. Eventually the anonymous who handled the tip to her in hopes she'd jail the culprit, rather than the whole ZPD who could hide everything to protect an officer, reveals herself to be a small mouse. After getting scolded and shouted upon by the small homeless mouse for not having the culprit on jail already, Judy is told that the mouse will go straight to Bogo and claim that she had a hand at hiding a crime and both are going to jail. Desperate, Judy pushes the mouse down and chokes her accidentally while trying to keep her silent. She disposes of the body and try to keep everyone silent with the help of Mr.Big but a Wolf who considered himself responsible for both comes forward. With the help of the shrew mafia boss, she stages a scene that explain both death by said wolf striking the fox in a drunken rage and then choking the mouse accidentally, erasing any possible chance to link it to Judy and Nick. Cotton's there too.

Dunno, it was funny having a character shocked (I'm in a diaper! haha) and it later made the world more relatable to ours since minorities literally wear collars to shock them every time they feel anything while the majority white/heterossexual/cis people try to cuff them and put them behind bars. The whole chomper thing brought it even closer, I wish we got Protozootopia/Dystopia instead.

I know that post is bait, but that's actually exactly why it's a good thing protozootopia got axed. Initially they set it up that preds getting shocked was comedic and a joke (that bus stop full of preds that got shocked en masse by a bus ignoring them and splashing them with a puddle/the Finnick diaper joke), but then you get to the taming party and all of a sudden they're supposed to be a horrible burden to bear that we need to pity them for?

That mood shifted so fast I think I got whiplash.

I really doubt they will, especially with how Pixar reacted to their viewings of Prototopia. We need a world that we can like, but also see its flaws and they figured out a good balance between that for Zootopia. My main concern is what is the theme for the sequel. My only hope is that Nick gets more screen time and a deeper personal look into.
