/tup/ - Tulpa General

"I changed my mind." Edition.

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

How do you practice visualization? I know it differs for everyone. When I practice I mostly just try to imagine what my tulpa is doing at any point in time based on the current circumstances, but this feels like nothing more than just thoughts and images from my end. Funny thing is when visualization seems completely natural, I seem to be able to visualize everything (such as my apartment building, the sky, etc...) EXCEPT for my tulpa... I don't think I have actually "seen" my tulpa yet despite getting mental responses for a while now. It is possible that my tulpa simply does not want to be seen yet? Pic sorta related.
>>
>>6748127
I feel like I am in a similar situation.
I try to make a habbit of imagining my Tulpa as though it was there in the 3D world. Like sitting on furniture i am looking at and stuff.
I can sort of imagine it, but it doesn't really feel like a presence and my overall ability to visualize doesn't seem to improve.
I always try and hug her in 3D space before bed, and try to imagine all her details. I have done this for ages but it never seems to get to much better.
I really am unsure where to go and and how to improve

Does anyone have tips for a more consistent visualization? When I try to visualize it's always "choppy" , like an extremely low framerate
>>
>>6748127
I've always had a good visualization, so I never really tried to improve it. One of the things that count for me is how much noise or visual distractions are there.

Another thing I just came up with: there's that thing where you sometimes forget what you were doing when you go to a different room. This is because doorways are signals for your brain to switch to a different context. When passive forcing this can break your concentration. I tried visualizing her again each time I went through a door. It seems this keeps them fresh in your mind.
>>
>>6748362
(continued)
I notice that when visualizing, I mostly see outlines. Her center and especially her face can be blurry. I can't stand looking at people's faces, which might be relevant. I don't know how to improve this, unfortunately.

So I have been following this and the general tulpa community for some time, it all seems very fascinating. Personally, I don't think I am ready to have what is essentially another living being with me 24/7, partially because I have significant issues with intrusive thoughts that could negatively impact the tulpa and there seems to be other unknowns that can get out of hand. All that said, I am still really interested in the visualization aspect. From any of your experience, would it be possible to learn how to visualize in a great amount of detail without actually creating a tulpa? I'm thinking along the lines of visualizing a cute anime girl that I can cuddle with at times...
>>
>>6753109
I am a noob to this aswell, but if i am correct that would end up becoming a tulpa eventually I think.

It's possible, just use your imagination...literally. Having some reference for what you want to visualize helps, since your visualization relies on your visual memory bank. Think about what your subject looks like from all sides, what they feel like, body heat, etc. You should be able to get it down with some practice, a mental doll is easier to make than a full blown construct of a person.
>>
>>6753109
That would just be fantasizing or daydreaming. Visualization isn't a tulpa-specific thing. If you aren't treating it as a separate sentient being, it won't become one, no matter how detailed you get with it. Artists and authors aren't plagued with hundreds of tulpas just because they can visualize characters in detail, and you won't accidentally make a tulpa just because you thought a lot about a cute girl.

>>
>>6755085
He was an old man who thrived on being an attention whore. He has a single tulpa/not-tulpa, who is called Melian. She has the form of a young girl around 13 years old and is nicknamed "Glitterbutt." Mistgod himself is 51 years old.

Throughout his posting career on tulpa.info, he has been in a stuggle to find the perfect attention-grabbing identity. He claims that he's had his tulpa for 35 years, yet has only been in the modern community for less than 2. A lot of his posts consisted of gushing over Melian and showing off pictures of her. Yet the majority of his posts were showcasing his 'brilliant' ideas about tulpas to the community at large.

At first, Mistgod completely rejected one of the most fundamentally agreed on concepts of the community, namely that tulpas are an authentic sentient beings. This caused a shitstorm of people calling him out and trying to assblast him because he implied their tulpas were not sentient. Mistgod garnered him a heaping helping of attention from this, and decided to continue reaping it by acting like a hapless victim who's being talked down to by everyone for simply having different ideas. Then he continued to keep posting topics that subtly implied tulpas are not sentient, and continued to get shittons of people calling him out on it.

Eventually, he came around and decided to go all in on the whole "tulpas are sentient" idea. He declared that Melian was a tulpa, and then he proceeded to make a half-assed tulpa called "Yoda," who was literally just Yoda from Star Wars.

But then his shitposting, attention-whoring nature got the better of him, and he continued to post random shit about how not-real tulpas are and having 6 page long arguments about basic philosophical ideas that are too obtuse for him to fully grasp. Until finally he decided that he was too autistic even by his own standards and gave himself a 3 month ban at his own request.

If your tulpa was corpreal, would they not have the same abilities as any form they might share if it's non-human? I.e., your tulpa would have magic and therefore would be in no danger whatsoever? If that's the case, it makes the choice a very simple one, the tulpa would be capable of freeing themselves in this situation you present, and thus you could save both.

Alright, I'm ready to start doing some tulpamancy now that I'm free. Which guide would you recommend reading first?

All of them
>>

Well, more like five to ten.
>>
>>6758852
That's doable. Can you list them?
>>

Just read as many as you can and then take buits of info from all of them and do you own thing.
>>
>>6758696
I don't think you can ever go wrong with reading the original guides by FAQ_Man. Just make sure you read it with the mindset that it's the first of its kind (regarding the modern tulpa community, at least), and that the steps and requirements it lists should be considered more like suggestions, than hard rules.

My pony tupper usually doesn't wear clothes because she has a lot of fur, but since it is getting really cold lately, she started wearing a cuddly blue hoodie.
When it rains, she also tends to have a raincoat and dry off her hooves before hugging me.
>>
>>6760557
My Tulpa has no clothes yet because we haven't decided on what they look like yet.
I wouldn't want to imagine her wearing things she currently wasn't. Once we think of a cool attire for her. I'll always imagine her in it.

So many I can't think of them all, so I'll name two:

- That time where she, and later another one of mine, decided to play hide-and-seek out of the blue. Darting out of my vision whenever I'd try to focus on her.
- That time where she missed her pen-pal from years back. Something about her being less that happy that just makes me want to hug her.

- We used to sit together and listen to music a lot. She'd always say the sweetest things during the sessions, even though I cannot remember them at the moment. It was always a soothing time. When I began to do sessions without the music, she would keep asking me why I didn't put any on. Quite sweet.
- When confronted with one of my older residents, she felt intimidated, and would go out of her way to make herself look better, even going so far as to mimic my older buddy.
- She's very shy about the outside world. Each time I tell her about something I posted online concerning her, she gets really bashful and seems to want to hide herself.

Tulpa are companions, not just dolls.

This isn't to say that people who spend time on thread talking about how pretty their tup is don't care about them beyond their form, but I think it needed to be said in light of all the flood of activity, much of which seems to be memes and form posting.

I'm all for some fun but maybe it should be toned down a bit so the thread doesn't actively repel those curious about the phenomenon.

I try to practice visualization just by taking more stock in my surroundings. If I pay enough attention to objects in real life, I figured that I would be able to see them in my mind, and recall things about them. I think of visualization as accessing a mental database of images, and by using the imagination, I can take this images and combine them with others to make them in to something new, if that makes sense.

Think of your tup as just another images, at least their form, anyway. Seek out references on what they look like, and use them to create a more accurate image in your mind.

>>
>>6774803
Her responses are most likely pre-recorded so after a month or two you'd hear/see everything she has to offer and get bored of the same repsonses over and over again.

But that brings an interesting and important question, which I've been thinking a lot lately.
What if technology offered you something like that, but even more advanced? Say, a robot that's so smart that if not for metal parts you wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Of course, it has a form of your waifu/fav pone.
Would you ditch your tulpa then? That robot has everything tulpa can offer expect shared thoughts, but It has a physical body. Would you just get along with both of them? How confusing would it be for all of you?

If a robot that was intelligent enough to be indistinguishable from a human was ever created, people would immediately start lobbying to give it more rights than humans and you wouldn't be allowed to buy them. At best, you would be able to apply to be a caretaker for one and only people who proved to be well-adjusted with a stable income and a household suitable for them to live in would be able to adopt one. And you also wouldn't be able to choose to have it look like your waifu/fave pone because that would be infringing upon it's rights, and probably some shit about objectification and unrealistic expectations for real women or something like that.

I find that a little depressing, which I guess is kind of ironic considering I'm posting in a thread about brainfriends. But the difference, to me, is that we know that this Gatebox thing is just an unthinking, unfeeling machine that merely provides an illusion of something more.

On the other hand, even if we assume tulpas are just elaborate imaginary friends and that we are deluding ourselves into believing they are something more, they are still thinking feeling beings by proxy, if only because we simulate their thoughts and experience their feelings through empathy. Even if they're completely fake, tulpas still possess some degree of authenticity simply due to the fact that they're the ongoing product of a living, biological mind. The Gatebox lacks that kind of authenticity, so devoting oneself to it just seems sad to me.

Do you just go down the list, or do you try to break the traits down and give memories to you tup as examples? I did the latter, and mine came out pretty well.

There are a ton of guides, but I unfortunately don't have the time to go through them now. I'll try to break it down some time later. For now, just think of personality traits as suggestions and not hard wired code.
>>
>>6779816

Also read the OP. There's some good stuff in there that peeps can easily overlook. I remember a good personality guide on tulpa.io, but you have to be a member to see it. I'll see if there are some other guides you can use.
>>
>>6779816
There really isn't a "best" guide, since what works great for one person won't necessarily work well at all for someone else. Ultimately, making your tulpa's personality comes down to deciding the general way you want them to act and then doing something to associate those traits with your tulpa. It doesn't matter whether you simply read down a list and describe to your tulpa what each trait means, or describe characters who you think embody the traits you want your tulpa to have, or give specific scenarios and show how you would want them to act in those scenarios, or whatever other way you can think of.

Huh....so there is a thread again. I wonder how many of the shitposters around here know me from the old one/irc
>>
Done some visualization sessions for the past few days, I have been able to image my tulpa in various situation with some (usually not great) amount of clarity. It does feels like I'm basically controlling her movement and what she is saying when I think up of these various situations. I'm guessing with time, her movement and her mindvoice will become fully automated (whenever sentience is finally achieved)?
>>
>>6789196
Relax. it can be frustrating at first, and it will feel like you are just kina controlling a mindless pupet for a while.

Just Remember...love and attention are what tuppers need to grow. just keep interacting and giving them attention, and you will start to see that growth into their own.
>>
>>6789196
If you think of your tulpa as a computer program, you need to first set up the code and go through test runs before you can run it without errors.
>>
>>6788796
Technically, every tulpa is brain grown. But you know, there are drawbacks to having a tulpa whose form was made from scratch. Usually you'll hear the hosts post something like
>tfw no pics of tulpa because she's not directly based off anything
and complaints of a similar fashion. An advantage is you get to show off what your brain created from scratch for their form, assuming it's not a horribly drawn "nuthin' personell, kid" OC. Honestly, no two tulpa are alike anyway, so every tulpa could be considered "original" in their own right, but I get what you mean.
>>
>>6789542
I find this argument hilarious, cause most tulpa I know, and my own personally tend to change their forms to better suit themselves from whatever form you make up creating them at the drop of a hat.

Well then most of the tulpa you know and your own need to try to be a little more original, huh? Most tulpa I've met have unique personalities that are their own despite what they look like.

One can still tell peeps about their tup in text as well. In fact I tend to prefer tup stories to masses of "post your tupper" posts. This is coming from someone who like engaging in form posting too.

The most important thing about a tulpa to me isn't what they look like, but what they do. The things they do is what makes them lovable, and how their personality bounces off of yours is what makes for such good times.

This is not to say everyone should have a formless void of pure thought as their companion, peeps tend to relate more to things with forms. Just that it's nice to see people who homegrew said form, rather than directly basing it off of an already existing property. I say this as a guy who DOES have a fiction based brain-buddy, along with originals.

I talked with someone once that said that a tulpa having a form is more or less just them pretending to be something. Because what a tulpa actually is the thoughts and awareness itself. In light of this it makes form arguments as a whole seem stupid.

I would rebut, or call you out, since you are being so insulting, but I don't know where to start with this.

>most tulpa I know change their forms to suit their whims, and they are not hostage, or beholden to the form you originally gave them if they just aren't fans.
>they must be uncreative
>they must not have unique personalities

Explain, because you lost me

I think I know exactly who you're talking about, a guy who's tup is an ever shapeshifting lady, yes? Kind of funny how small the tup community is.

But I agree, form arguments are dumb, but this is barely even an argument. Just some saltiness here and there. The post that sparked it isn't even inflammatory.
>>
>>6791167
It's pretty simple. What I'm saying is just because someones tulpa's form is from a show or something doesn't mean they aren't original because a tulpa's actions and personality are what really make them who they are. If you know a lot of people and tulpa that change their personality to match a form, I was saying that was strange because mine don't do that and neither do the tulpa I know.
>>
>>6791679
what we have here is a failure of communication then. Allow me to explain.

You seem to think im saying that my tulpa changes forms.....AND THUS ALSO HER PERSONALITY....for some reason.
To steal my own tupper's description, a Form is like a change of clothes, or putting on a new outfit.

So basicaly im saying ppl arguing over originality of forms is retarded because that is like arguing that your tulpa is somehow more creative, unique, and special because they have the coolest Hat.

Question to people that have multiple tulpa, how much has the first tulpa influenced the growth of your second tulpa?
>>
>>6792433
not any really.
>>
>>6792433
My first tulpa directly asked for the 2nd. So. A lot, I guess. The 2nd was also super easy to get going vs the first, and now is much more easily passive forced than my 1st was.

>>6792433
She has been a rival, a sister, a friend, and a source of inspiration for her younger sibling that is next down the line. She's helped a lot with guiding them and leading them. She's my and their rock most of the time.

Does anyone else use video game worlds to have mindscape adventures in? We've been favoring Dark Souls lately, but have also used Fallout and Borderlands before.
>>
>>6798015
My wonderland is a photorealistic version of the Forbidden Lands from Shadow of the Colossus, but there's no Colossi wandering around in their arenas, so yes, literally a video game world. Although, Dark Souls is also top-tier. I may add portions of it outside the forbidden lands.
