The bright and sunny weekend afternoon at The Palm hotel and casino was being enjoyed by winners and losers alike, though one of the cheaters was having a particularly bad day, drawing attention from flashy dime slots and boisterous house dealers as he was grasped firmly in the clawed paw of a leopard bouncer, swinging as he was roughly escorted to the exit.
“They aren’t mine, I swear!”
Heads turn to see an infamous weasel wearing his trademark undershirt under nothing. Murmurs are exchanged between guests.
“It was a set up! You know I have enemies!” Duke Weaselton cried.
“Put him on mute, will ya?” A gerbil commanded, hitching a ride on the bouncer’s shoulder.
The jaguar bouncer stuffed the weasel’s mouth with two dice. Protests continued muffled, but more desperate.
“All the way to the curb, if you will.” The gerbil instructed further, “Ya know where to leave the trash.”
The bouncer dropped Duke on the hard and hot pavement, leaving him to contort his tube like body in a broken furry circle, knocking the wind out of him and subsequently the dice which rolled briefly on the ground. The resulting five on one and two on the other would be impressively ironic had they not been Duke’s special dice.
A tiny voice could barely be heard: “Come back and I’ll have you tied in a knot, weasel!”
Approaching from the casino, a familiar deep and booming laugh. It’s Finnick, walking through the revolving door and towards the ousted weasel.
“I don’t know what’s the funniest thing about this! Oh wait, no I do: It’s the fact that you thought you COULD!” His laughter trailed on.
Recovering and straightening himself up, Duke bitterly replied, “Yeah, yeah. Hey, isn’t it about time for baby’s afternoon nap?”
“And miss this? Not a chance.” The small fox gave a toothy grin.

I’m just having too much fun being a free,” he pulls out his wallet, “mammal…” and opening it reveals nothing but a couple of quarters, some string, and two moths that came flying out, much to Duke’s dismay, “The moths!” He swatted and grasp at the air, vigorously trying to catch them, “Those must be worth something, right?!” He unleashed a pitiful whine as he fell to his knees, covering his face in his hands, mourning himself. Too broke to even ride.

The sweet sound of crisp paper uncrumpling followed by that lovely dirty paper scent caught the attention of his twitching nose between crooked whiskers. His head slowly turned and he uncovered his eyes to see Finnick presenting five bucks.

“For the show.” He said, dropping it as he turned to leave, “Ciao!” He exited, laughing maliciously to himself.

I like avo/remmy exactly for that buddy aspect.
The casualness is very appealing.
I'm not a fan of the super infatuated type of relationship.
Betty/Remmy is really adorable, but I feel like Betty is everyone's mom, and even though this ship is incredibly cute, I don't feel any romance between them. She is just taking care of her youngest in her pack.
Charlie/Remmy is strong, but I can't really tell anything about how in my opinion Charlie feels about Remmy. She is very difficult to read. It might go in romantic places, but as of now it feels more professional, than casual. I mean, there was that one time she joked, that whole blanket deal, and a certain shower situation, so as I said this ship is going strong.
From the Remmy's side he might be most interested in Charlie, but he certainly keeps his option open.

What I like about it:
It's like an episode of a Zootopia animated series. It's a funny and rewarding read so far. It's rare to see Duke and Finnick interracting.

sorry if anyone was following, I got sidetracked a little. It's a continuation of the story of a pawnbroker elk by the name of Derek Smithin

Following the brief acquaintance with the TV crew and an unexpected discovery of his knack for photography, Derek committed to his new hobby with a passion only the young adults who found the meaning of life are capable of.

That day, he decided he has very little to lose and the the opportunities are limitless. It is probably unsurprising how a mixture of talent, hard work and a bit of luck resulted in him securing a uni grant, allowing him to waltz into the big world as he had always dreamed.

Following years brought a good job at a large newspaper with a big modern office on Lionheart avenue, a couple of awards, a single family house in Savanna Central, a wife and two children. Life couldn't have been better.

Interesting thing about Derek was is that unlike most of mammals in his situation, he never broke ties with his old folk and was categorically unashamed of his background. In fact, he never abandoned the habit of travelling around the city to capture small life scenes in the big city. Though instead of travelling from Bromeliad Street shantytowns he'd find himself increasingly often travelling back to the familiar eastern ridge of the Rainforest District.

Almost never at home, his wife would occasionally joke he's married to his camera rather than her.

Good times didn't last long. Returning home in the middle of the day to get some extra equipment for his personal project, Derek found his wife in bed with the editor in chief of the newspaper he worked at. Dropping the camera on the floor, Derek stormed out of the house.

The affair came as a complete complete surprise; for all he knew, everything was perfect. Struggling to accept his marriage abruptly failed, he spend the next three days in drunken stupor, refusing to pick up calls from his worried soon-to-be-ex wife.

He probably would have gotten over it was it not for he fact the editor at the time was a notoriously vicious and unscupulous individual. By the time Derek managed to pull somewhat himself together and turn up at work he encountered an icy reception by his colleagues. As it turned out, throghout the entire last week someone had circulated most vicious and bizzare rumours about his personal life with skill and impact only a seasoned journalist could. And as the case was, the bigger the lie, the more believeable it was as Derek was just too perfect the eyes of his colleagues' to harbour some dark secret.

Few remaining friends willing to talk to him shared the "facts" they were made privy of: that Derek was a neglectful and abusive husband, that his travels around the city was his infidelity with photography only being a cover story, that he was struggling with alcoholism and in slandered his colleagues private despite trying to keep up an appearance of overall nice guy. Perhaps the last statement wounded Derek the most - he had always been sincere, respectful and fair with people he worked alongside, commanding respect of those junior and earning a reputation as an honest and reliable guy from his seniors.

Alcoholism, theft and occasional violence became a daily routine as he found no support from his old neighbours in Bromeliad Street. He grit his tetth and continued pushing, determined to start a new life. Further three years and countless disappointments later and for the most illegaly, Derek accumulated a small sum which he then used to take over a pawnshop with some of his new shady mates.

For all intents and purposes, it was an act of extortion, though after spending 5 years in the shelter Derek was was determined to survive and thrive.

His next move was to report three of his conspirators to the police - while conveniently detaching himself from the group, getting a good alibi and a handful of bribes resulted in their conviction. His former self would have shuddered at the very thought of such an act, but by that time the cheerful photographer with a lot of friends was long since gone.

Derek has been running the pawnbroker business for 5 years now. He sees a lot of children of his former peers as his little shop is located on Rain Lane and thus one of the few places willing to lend money to the local paupers.

He has he reputation of being known by all and liked by none. Bitter, alienated and unkind, he drives a hard bargain with the desperate folk coming to his shop, knowing well how much he can get out of every customer. Cynical and cold, he despises everyone crossing the doorstep of his shop, seeing them as the a waste and dredges of society and it seems the only person in the whole world capable of liking him is his shop assistant, though even she isn't excempt from his scathing cynism.

He had grown to detest photography since his divorce and accepts any photographic equipment extremely reluctantly despite its generally high value, giving his customers the prices which more often than not force them to turn to other pawnbrokers. It seems the only exception to the rule is an old cheap digital camera and a faded postcard which almost never leaves its safe in Derek's office. Those were seen only a handful of time by his assistant and while significance of these items is not known to her, she knows better than to ask.
