/tup/ - Tulpa General

"Did you see that Zach? As clear as a crisp spring morning! tulpa. general. on. /trash/. I knew I could count on it, it never fails!"

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

I know exactly how you feel, though, my life has gone to shit and given me plenty of reasons to feel sad.

Remember, depression isn't just being sad, being seriously depressed is like, your brain running short on chemicals it needs normally or something. I don't understand it very well because it's hard to seek out professional help, but it's a lot of things outside of simple sadness.

Don't give up

Anyone else's tulpa fully capable of reading the host's mind, but the other way around isn't true?

I think we got set up that way to ensure tupper thinks independently, but now it's kinda weird that it's so asymmetrical.

Cute! Head pressures aren't something I've ever gotten but they seem a pretty good indicator that your tup is communicating with you. I've noticed some people get "dips" in the head pressures when their tups try to communicate using a new method, so if she starts contacting you a bit less at some point in the future using the head pressures, keep that in mind. I'm not really sure how well a dress would work on her, but I call her pretty all the time.
At least my 2nd tup has a pretty dress sometimes! And she's pretty besides that.

question: does forcing have to be word-based (reading/talking to my tulpa), or do actions/experiences that we do in my wonderland count?
>>
>>6679473
They can be either one. Forcing, I feel, is kind of a damaging word for new hosts; really, forcing literally just means spending time with your tulpa, or just thinking about them, regardless of what that means. So, that could be words, talking to them or writing about them, or it could just be snuggling them to sleep at night.
>>
>>6679316
Yeah good luck with that. You try getting her to wear a dress. Not happening. Eldest sister loves them, though. Does that count?

Parroting or no parroting?
>>
>>6680929
Parroting can be beneficial to some, as it can quickly teach your tulpa how to talk and act and such. I also think if you are trying to visualize the form, parroting can be helpful. I don't believe its something you should be doing if your tulpa is vocal, though

i remember when i got heavy into hypno years ago (not the pet stuff, that was seen as pretty weird even within hypno) that i began to see ghostly figures outside of trance in my regular everyday life.

they were definitely not sentient like a tulpa is, nor capable of doing things themselves. i suppose they were servitor-like. sounds slightly similar to your case but yours was during the trance. if i'd done pet stuff i might have been able to give you a better opinion but there is no way i'm touching that shit.

I made a tulpa by incident a year or so ago, I was extremely emotional and talked in the woods to myself. When I heard a response I left but came back the next day. It was snowing and the power was off so I had ample time to walk around. The voice had no body but was not mine, so I gave it one in my mind. Sure it was not a body of her / its choosing but it was fine with it. The reason I ask is because I tried to kill it and then let it go once that failed and now... I don't know what to do. She appears randomly, from the corner of my eye or sometimes in front of me, staring.

The skill you're talking about (seeing them in the physical world just like a real person) is called imposition. It's possible, but very difficult to achieve. What can I do to try and say more meaningful stuff with my Tulpa?
Like I can say things, but they are to basic. Things like 'Are you having fun' or "Do you like X". They often only result in yes or no answers.

I want to talk about deeper things, but I never hear responses in a manner where I can have a good back and forward talk. It is either me talking to myself, or constantly asking my Tulpa to repeat her reply with me barely begin able to figure out what she's saying.

It gets so frustrating I think a part has become hesitant to even attempt conversations like that as I am to afraid I'll hear nothing and get bored. Sometimes I think she gets annoyed too. I am sure she wants to say some things, but I never hear them perfectly.

I wish I could just talk to my tulpa all day for entertainment, but it is so hard to hear her that i often get bored of waiting for a nice reply. I am sure we are both trying our best communicate, but hearing her is just so hard. Its been like this nearly a year
>>
>>6688769
My guess is that you should stop worrying about receiving a reply. If you don't get a reply, just keep going and expect that she'll speak up when she's ready and able. It's good to expect a response, but it's possible go too far with it and end up disrupting the flow of the "conversation" by expecting her to respond at specific times. Chances, she'll end up interrupting you herself sooner or later.
>>
>>6688805
I 'hear' a reply, its just what it is that is hard.
Like it sounds like maybe an untuned radio at times, or simply just hazy. I just can't decipher what she says.

Even worse is that it usually the important part of sentences, like she'll say "I think that ........."
I keep asking her to reply so I can figure it out but it is hard to do.
>>
>>6688815
Is she able to give clear responses to yes or no questions, or cause head pressures at will? Instead of asking her to repeat herself, you could instead respond with something like, "I didn't get that, did you mean ____?" Maybe you'll have better luck learning to decipher her if you can get a good idea of what she was trying to say.
>>
>>6687857
She hasn't given up on trying to talk to me about everything even though I'm shit at holding conversations, and it's slowly helping me get better because I really want to talk to her about all of it.

Also she is super cute.
>>
>>6688893
I don't get much head pressure anymore, or I don't notice like I used to.
But yes's or no's are fairly clear at times, some a bit harder but overall fairly easier to get. There are a few other phrases I can hear well too.

I try to get her to repeat herself and then ask if think I heard it. Sometimes I will generalize and ask category question to narrow down she said. Or I will simply ask, did you say this or that and see if she says yes or no.

I can slowly figure out what she is saying, but it takes a lot longer and really slows down conversations. And I can't keep making every questions into yes or no ones, I want to hear her opinions and stuff.

I've got a question for people who made their tip after a pre-existing character.
Do your Tulpas ever get mad that you created them with the likeness to a pre-existing character so you could live out some sort of fantasy?
Also, did they go through some sort of identity crisis once they saw that that character already exist outside your brain?

I don't believe I created her just to live out some fantasy, and she never had an identity crisis because I made the distinction that she wasnt the character, and that she was aware of what she was
>>
>>6693318
Don't take this the wrong way but it's hard for me to believe that creating your Tulpa in likeness to a pre-existing character isn't part of some kind of fantasy. Especially when this thread is filled with people talking about dressing up their tulpa and calling them pretty.

You created your tulpa in a form that YOU wanted. Maybe in the hopes that they would act the same way whatever character you depicted them after would.

Even if you made a distinction between the two, it seems to me that it would create tension.
>>
>>6693609
When I made her, and even now, I haven't played animal crossing in 3 years. I only slightly based her personality from the original character, but only slightly. I crafted a personality for her, I didn't make her have the one the character had, because I barely knew and know the character much.

Also, whats wrong with wanting to make your tulpa feel good?
>>
>>6693609
to be fair a lot of people give a tulpa a form to start with and then they deviate and change into something else.
>>
>>6693167
Nah, none of that stuff.
Her only complain is that I'd dick that character the first chance I get, while I refuse to dick my tulpa even though they're identical.
>>
>>6692502
A huge part of the creation process is faith. If you attribute a thought to your tulpa, then its theirs. If you doubt, that will slow things down. Real parroting typically follows a thought of intention to parrot.

>>
>>6694205
On some level, all of this is fantasy and wish fulfillment. It seems a lot of people start doing shenanigans with their Tulpa after sentience is achieved.

Using a pre-existing form can be easier since you have references to ease the burden of working out every little detail yourself. Not to mention that you're likely already fairly familiar with the character's design, so it's easier to picture it while forcing. And then once you're used to seeing your tulpa, they'll generally be free to deviate and adjust their form to their liking without any problem.

My tulpa's form is basically an amalgamation of different characters with similar physical traits. She chose it herself. She didn't want to be an exact copy of a character, but trying to be completely original wasn't really sticking in my mind. So we sort of reached this compromise, where my mind had something familiar to draw upon, but not specifically associated with any character. She's deviated minor details once her form was properly established, but it hasn't really changed much.

Honestly, the only real big thing you definitely shouldn't try to give your tulpa are the character's memories and experiences. Fake memories are what will fuck your tulpa up and give them an identity crisis when they realize that everything they knew about themself was all bullshit. Your pone tupper never lived in a land of magical flying technicolor horses. Your fish tupper never lived next door to an emo ghost with a snail farm. Your pupper tupper never did all of the work for a lazy mayor who disappeared three years ago and oh god I have to check on my town. The only memories your tulpa should have are the ones they have with you from the moment you brought them into existence.

Basically, as long as your aren't expecting a tulpa to actually be the character, then you're generally okay.
>>
>>6696175
I agree with this.
There is not much wrong with picking a form for your Tulpa that is off an already existing character.
Its easier to image and get references for it.
And once I can see her more I am sure she'll change in bits too.

What is wrong is to copy the personality, I don't think forcing a Tulpa to have an explicit set in stone unchangeable personality taken from another character is right.
>>
well I never thought I'd bring a thought piece to a tulpa thread but here I am,
I day dream a lot, a lot more than you would think normal, I think I have something wrong with me if im being honest.
I'm wondering if having a tulpa is just like a really long specific day dream, as in, you know its fake, but it exists in your head, if you're doing something that requires a lot of focusing do you ""forget"" your tulpa exists,(much like how if you need to work on something, you're focusing on the current task, not daydreaming) but can go back to it? does it still exist when you arent thinking about it? or do you people actually create an entity in your head which exists outside of direct focus? IE, if you're studying, without thinking about it, can your tulpa get your attention?
>>
>>6696554
Yeah, once a tulpa is properly made it continues to exist even when not given direct attention. Once good communication is established and can grab your attention too.
As long as you do give your Tulpa attention once you have finished your task, it should be fine.
My goal is to get my tulpa to be able to focus with me and help me do stuff.
>>
>>6696554
>does it still exist when you arent thinking about it?
Honestly, this is pretty much how you know what you have is a Tulpa.

They tend to act independently of your own thought processes.

I get using a pre-existing character as a base for your tups and making changes to it so it's more personalized. I've just been lurking in these threads for a few days and it seems there's a lot of anons on here use tups to act out their fantasies on their favorite cartoon character.

What happens between two consenting individuals is not my business, but I think it's unethical to create this consciousness with ulterior motives. But maybe I'm misinterpreting.

I don't doubt that there are some people like that, but I've seen a lot of anons say that their tups don't really act like the character their form is based off of, and it seems to always be expressed as a positive thing... so even if it starts off as fantasy fulfillment it seems to take on a life of its own and becomes a genuine, deep friendship (or something more)
>>
>>6697301
There's a lot about Tulpa's that's can be inherently unethical with a certain perspective. Tbh even if some anon is splitting themselves for self gain that's their and their minds jazz, and they're free to do so to themselves.

But generally for those who base it off preexisting forms it's not about that. I mean, on some level it is, but in my personal experience and I'm sure others can attest to it/agree it's not about that. It's a starting point, and many of us are okay with deviation from that point. And if there is no deviation? That's chill too.

>Like I am sure we made sure the form of our Tulpa was something we found attractive at least.

Too true, but on the same token most tulpas probably want to be attractive or beautiful in their hosts' eyes. Really though, it's no big deal so long as you afford the tulpa the freedom to change their form as they see fit. If mine wanted to be ugly as sin I'd go along with it

Can I make a tulpa that'll help me get beautiful on the outside as well as the inside? I don't want to get my hopes dashed when she's supposed to love someone that looks like me.
>>
>>6702201
You can make a Tulpa that does anything really.
Just try to make her care about your physical well being and provide support as you try to improve it.

Whether that is an all about fitness tulpa that will aggressively push your limits or one that just gives you lots of support is up to you.

Besides I am sure most care about who you are more then how you look.
>>
>>6702234
Can I make a tulpa so we could fight monsters in our Wonderland together? Because that'd be a nice motivation to take care of my well being if she didn't want her partner to slip.
>>
If some technology was released in the future that enabled you to put your tulpa in direct contact with another tulpa via a brain-computer interface, would you go for it?
>>
>>6702439
I guess so. I don't know how hard exactly it is to do that.
Just make sure you treat it like a video game, you go there have fun and then when its time you stop and go to bed, otherwise you might start getting depressed over how your wonderland life is better then you real one.

>>6702453
No. I wouldn't go near something that put my in contact with another brain, tulpa or not. Brains are crazy, I don't wanna be in someone elses or have them in mine.

I'm still just as shameful and sad however, because I'm bisexual and I made sure he was a very, very pretty guy who really enjoyed getting in the shower with his host.

Making your partner to respond against community norms, or trying to model your forcing habits against them is a very nasty trap, though it isn't spoken about much. I haven't seen much good come from folks who made a tulpa a certain way just to go "Haha! I'm not like those losers!".

I know I used to really look down on people in the community because of certain practices. But then I got served a heaping helping of humble pie by way of personal experience. There are still things I do not like that folks in the niche do, but I don't feel the need to set myself above them, lest I get humbled again, or have my ideals backfire on me.
>>
>>6704457
Tulpa could only be dangerous if you purposefully made one that was psychotic, you were psychotic, or otherwise had some really bad mental disorder. Otherwise, they're a wonderful experience. My life is infinitely better for having them in it. All the most popular cautionary tales about tulpa are just creepypasta most likely. I've been doing this for 4 years and not only am I happy, I'm in a healthy relationship with an active social life and friends. No spaghetti, no autism, no crippling social phobias. And I have 4 of them. In fact, I've experienced things I never would have without them in my life. So no, they're not dangerous.
>>
>>6704728
Asking tough questions there, how would I know?
>>
>>6704780
I absolutely understand what you're saying and I ultimately do not mind what direction my tulpa takes. This was just a conceited thought I had during his creation but I have made it very clear to him that in the end the type of person he wants to be is most definitely his choice. If he decides to be a girl or a dog or a kobold or a slime cube, that would be fine.

Considering they're pretty much Japanese dresses, hell yeah. Cute tupper and dress famo.
>>
>>6705288
He doesn't think much about it and tends to put a lot of focus on my own happiness, which is probably why he hasn't deviated from his initial form too much. Which results in an endless cycle because it becomes very evident one of the traits he got from me is his tendency to focus more on the satisfaction of other people than his own. He's a really peaceable guy though and doesn't like to worry a whole lot, but I'm constantly reminding him how much I genuinely appreciate his existence and how he should learn to see himself as his own being who can have his own feelings and decisions.

Mental disorder.

You didn't make any tulpa, there is no scientific evidence of this being a thing, you're all just circle jerking pretending your imaginary friend is better than the people around you.

A mental disorder implies it is harmful and detrimental to everyday life, however. My tulpa has been nothing but useful to me. If anything, it is more like a mental tidiness. My thoughts are quite organized now.
