There are over 100 episodes of 虹猫蓝兔七侠传, which roughly translates to Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit. It's a Chinese cartoon. Stuff like this and Beijing Opera Cats fly under the radar in the west, but there's a lot of Chinese cartoons about fighting animals. Do you like the look of it?

The animation reminded me of North Korean cartoons. I wonder if they are involved in it in some way.

It's one of them. Itr's missing the first few seconds. The webm is kind of compressed and grainy as well. Here is the final season's intro, I believe.

None of them really flow well or make sense. Show has a lot of strange flying and magical attacks.

Pretty hardcore for a children's cartoon. The Chinese government actually banned the show at some point, based on articles I've found online, as it has a lot of heavy themes.

He's saying that North Koreans aren't involved. And I agree, I haven't seen other webms when I suggested this. Though both use these lazy, eye-stabbing filters for shading or for some motion transition after they switched to digital.

DPRK stuff is mostly about how you have to be nice to each other, speak truth, never jaywalk, etc.

Well, that cartoon, which has that US colonel foxgirl that everyone draws porn of, is probably about killing scheming capitalist rats and their puppeteers, but I don't know, only cared for porn.

The rabbit hole appears to go much deeper than I anticipated. The series does have 108 episodes, but there are multiple shows. This one with the purple girl, Google translate gives it the subtitle of "Seven Chivalrous". The show with the goat girl has 79 episodes and a subtitle of "Bright Sword".

This one is Seabed Adventures and takes place entirely in the sea.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0Bxdqs7TXY

This one seems more childish, or something, and has humans and fairies in episodes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mk9EtwzEos

This franchise must be fucking huge in China to have this many shows. The only thing that seems to be consistent is Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit being the main characters.

The show with the purple girl seems to be the one I like most, but I need to dig further. Here's another webm.

They all seem to be on YouTube, although the quality probably isn't the best. The official channel - not sure if it really is, but it calls itself that - has playlists for all of the shows. Some of them seem... sketchy. One is a dinosaur cartoon that has nothing to do with Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit outside of the opening and closing.

There seems to be two-or-three serious shows, at least two comedy shows, and some in-between genre.

I really dug the serious show that had death and suicidal thoughts, but man, I'm digging this comedy. It's cute as fuck and purple girl is great.

But we really need to find out her name, because it's going to be hard to classify any artwork - if we're lucky - when we don't know who she is.
>>
Let's, uh... strike this Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit show from the canon, right? Can we agree to do that?

Ok, I think I figured out something. Three shows share continuity - the descriptions confirm as much. The Bright Sword one is the first season. The Seven Chivalrous one is the second season. Wander is the third season.

Its description in the playlist directly states it takes place after, and hey, I guess purple girl didn't die after all. That's good.

Something I've noticed is that the action cartoon seems to try very hard to keep her mole on the correct side of her face. The cartoony one is going full Men in Tights and jumping all over the place, even changing in size. She's still cute, but it's pretty distracting.

Now this was unexpected, and it's the sort of plot I could really get behind. It appears that she mindcontrolled her into attacking Blue Rabbit so that she could be the one to protect her. This pill was different than all of the others. Assuming with the context, it was an antidote. Why you would bother to cure your mind-broken toy is anybody's guess, but I guess it was meant to be one final act of revenge - giving her back her sanity right before she dies. She doesn't die, of course, but still. It's a very Bond villain thing to do.

I'd rather keep it alive. Probably won't survive the night either way, but still. I like to discover things like this. I can't help but feel this show would have had a lot more interest had I framed the opening post in a different manner. When I made the thread, I barely knew what the show was and had only looked through a few episodes. I thought all 108 episodes were three different seasons, but it turned out that each of the three main seasons was around 100 episodes long. And then there's the comedy shows and the weird underwater and faerie one. I haven't even begun to look through those two yet.

Here's the playlist. Ignore the dinosaur and universe ones, as they aren't really Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit shows.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCws-xTdOHkytAHWUOdgfq7Q/playlists

For fuck's sake, with friends like these, who needs enemies? You see, Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit are able to heal people. When they finally learn the truth about Sally, and she tells them what happened, they need to try to keep the horse girl from figuring out that they know. So what do they do? Every time the horse girl shows up, they torture Sally. I mean, whipping her to the point of bleeding. Yeah, they heal her after she leaves, but this is brutal.

Here's the scene where she finally breaks through her mental conditioning. I think that yellow pill from earlier wasn't a cure, but rather, something to make her unable to speak. All she can do here is mime that she was forced to take pills.

They don't actually manage to heal her to the point of being able to move until fifteen episodes later, and even then, it's not a full cure. That's why she had trouble moving and seemed dizzy. It's also why she was suicidal and kept attacking her friend. She was full-on Winter Soldier at that point.

This is deep. I mean, I'm getting feels about a character I can't understand.

Sally's first episode was 14. She seemed to be just a strong villager who caught the horse girl sneaking into town. They fought, and that's when she got poisoned for the first time. It took around 70 episodes for that plot to get resolved, and she seemed to get her sanity back after that day with the tentacles when she went into the temple of doom and found a note. That webm back >>6647925

Yet through all of these gutwrenching webms, this thread remains dead. I suppose I could always save them for /co/ one day, if they aren't in a "Chinese animation is anime" sort of mood.
>>
Well, I'm going to sleep. I may try to make a thread on /co/ tomorrow, but it's a crapshoot. Beijing Opera Cats threads tend to get shot down quickly, but the last thread survived a good while.

If this thread takes off, perhaps there will be no need, but I doubt that it will. I'm grateful for the people who expressed interest in it early in the thread, and for the artists who would have drawn something nice but couldn't due to technical issues.

This show may stick with me for a while. I find a lot of shit online that I share with people on here. Most recent example is Pumpkin Reports, which became a weekly fixture on /co/ until the threads dried up. But there was something different about this. I felt genuine empathy for that purple girl and I don't feel that level of empathy for a fictional character very often. She should have been able to get her revenge. She should have fucking murdered that bitch who drugged her over and over and over. Then the beatings on top of it, often needlessly, like in >>6654410

And this was a children's cartoon. There's probably a reason the Chinese government ended up banning this thing for a while.

Artist said they couldn't get the style right, but thanks to their weibo post, I found the purple girl's real name. 莎丽.

It does translate to Sally.
>>
>>
I literally haven't found a single drawing of them as animals.

And the Chinese never draw porn. If they do, it definitely wouldn't be on a state monitored social media platform. I don't know where the Chinese post their porn.
>>
This one is cute. Is she actually a squirrel? I mean, I guess they would know.
>>
>>
There is an endless amount of humanized Chinese art. It's impossible to post it all. I don't even like humanizations. It's... problematic, to say the least. Is it an eastern thing? Japan has a bad habit of constantly drawing the Happy Tree Friends as humans. Do they not like animals? Are there cultural differences that prevent them from anthropomorphizing them to the same extent we can in the west?

Anyway, the true name of the franchise is 虹猫蓝兔. Other characters are added to the titles, but those are the subtitles. May help with future searching.
>>
>>6656675
In my humble opinion, humans are the standard in animu, and chinese are VERY much inspired by just that. The generic animu human face is super easy to draw, which is why humanizations are so popular over there: anyone can draw them.
>>
>>6659384
Then why not make the entire show about humans? Is that not what the people want?

Here's a webm from one of the weird music videos. They use these characters as often as possible, even if their usage doesn't make sense.
>>
Just watched the first episode on YT. So the basic gist is that the Big Bad, 黑心虎 Black Heart Tiger, who was vanquished fifty years ago, has returned and wants 麒麟 qilin (the dragon-like creature) which is in the possession of 虹猫 Rainbow Cat. Rainbow Cat's granddad tells him to find six other swordsmen to defeat the Big Bad and heroically sacrifices himself to give Rainbow Cat and Qilin a chance to escape.

Pretty cliche. The rabbit and squirrel are cute though.

In the show's fourth season, most of the characters, including Sally, were turned into babies. The season seems to end with them still being babies. I guess they thought, since the franchise was so popular, they'd be able to make another one and resolve it. But they didn't. It's another bad end.

That's season one. When I first found the show, I thought she would be the character I posted the most of. But then I found Sally.

The first four seasons and the movie are in direct continuity. I don't know about the undersea adventure or faerie one. I haven't even begun to look through those two, but their art styles and tone are much, much different and I didn't see any familiar characters aside from the main cat and rabbit during my very brief look through them.

The first season pretty much revolves around this girl. She's super important to the plot.

Hard to get subs for a Chinese cartoon. The guy who did that one Adventure Time knock-off came into a Beijing Opera Cats thread once and subbed the first four minutes of episode one, but he didn't stick around to do the rest.

With so many episodes, it would likely have to be a paying job. But even then, you wouldn't really know if the translation was accurate or if somebody was just half-heartedly doing it.

That episode caused a controversy in China and got the show banned for a few weeks before it returned to television.

>The show's been controversial for a while, actually. In January, a parent complained that her son wanted to cut his wrists in imitation of Blue Rabbit's self-sacrifice in one episode. Then, in early February, someone writing under the name of "Old Egg" posted to several online forums a call for CCTV to pull the plug on the program.

>The author of the post (real name: Liu Shuhong), blasted the show for being derivative of domestic wuxia novels and foreign cartoons, and for being "vulgar, violent, suggestive, filthy, frightening, and threatening." The discussion of violence and wuxia elements led to calls for a ratings system for domestic cartoons, similar to what Japan has. A common criticism of Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit was that it fused adult wuxia themes and language together with the cute characters that typify kids' programming, resulting in a strange beast that no one could appreciate.

I do have to wonder if that is the first porn this series has ever gotten. With human nature being what it is, I have to assume not, but if the Chinese drew anything, they were likely only sharing it within certain circles.

Remember that this is a chinese-made cartoon, and the kind of budget the Chinese Government/businesses would be willing to give for the production of something as "frivolous" as a show meant for entertainment purposes.
There's a lot of effort put into the storywriting at the very least, but unfortunately a lack of money and lack of contact with the outside world- and the better, more advanced techniques/equipment of the rest of the world, means that they're probably having to work from the ground up. This is probably China's version of Looney Tunes.

One of my absolute favorite things is when people combine kid shows with horrible violence that would never get past western radars. It's truly a pity this show isn't subtitled, I certainly would have enjoyed it.
>>
I made this thread and the first /co/ one. Made all of the webms. But I'm starting to lose faith anything will come from this. Somebody made a new thread on /co/ this morning and it's still up, but it's on page nine and I'm not sure if I should bump it. I could re-post all of the webms, or try to make new ones, but it seems a bit futile.

Those subs are long gone. Even if I managed to track that guy down, he only had 13 subbed episodes as of last year. And some of his videos had tens of thousands of views, so it's not like a few hundred people on 4chan is going to change anything for him.

Realistically, the best I could hope for right now is more art. Art has, and will always be, the lifeblood of any fandom when episodes are unavailable. You need one or the other - preferably both. When a show has easily accessible episodes and artists drawing new things, you can get threads that are crazy good. I remember the Sherlock Yack threads that I made, where people drew over a dozen images of her over the span of a weekend and all 52 episodes were online and in English.

That's not the case here. Even with cute characters, few artists are interested in a show that they can't understand. The drawings aren't flowing and it's been, what, nearly a week?

This is because this particular cartoon is state-run and they plain don't give a shit.

Chinese animation used to be quite good. I did a tour of the Gobelins School Of Images when I was in France and there were a good number of old Chinese hand-drawn animations that were showcased since they featured dynamic oil-painted frames as backgrounds for pic related. These same artists were recruited by Disney to do the background frames for the original Bambi.

That being said, I spoke to some of the Chinese students studying abroad at Gobelin and they said corporation and student-produced animation are much better, such as the following: https://vimeo.com/28494779 (NSFW)

>>6729272
So they want to kill the animal to get power. I believe that's the horse girl's motivation as well, so she had the same goal as the tiger. But I guess, in the end, Sally kills her before she gets a chance to absorb its power.

I wouldn't expect you to do the entire series. It must have been a lot of work. However, if you can find the time, I'd rest easy if I could get some sense of what the hell was going on in episode 30. The scenes with Sally. She first arrives, then attacks them, and then they whip her when the horse shows up.

That's one of the big mysteries I have with the show. If they think the horse girl is a good guy, why do they have to pretend to torture Sally when she shows up?

It's pretty damn depressing to find something that you fall in love with only to have it slip away at a moment's notice. It's inevitable with all things, but this one hurts more than most. I've found many cartoons over the years and made many threads on /co/ and /trash/, and while I was briefly infatuated with all of them, this one just feels different. I think it's the lack of closure. I know how it begins and how it ends. But I'll never understand the why of it. I'll never know the characters' motivations, or get to know them on a more personal level. This cartoon is a decade old. If it hasn't been translated by now, it's likely never going to be.

I wish I could change that. But I can't. I'm powerless to do anything. If I were an artist, I could draw. I could keep the show relevant to people's interests. If I were a writer, I could write. If I knew Mandarin, I could translate it. If I had money, I could pay somebody who did.

I did all that I could in making these threads and dumping a ton of webms. But that... that is never enough.

I know that feel man. The weird thing is that the story probably isn't all that mind-blowing.

I've gotten lucky enough to see some stuff translated that I never thought would be (an obscure VN I'd seen images of) - it was actually my suggestion that started the project, even though I myself couldn't really help. But when I was actually able to read it after wondering for years what the story was about, it was...okay? Not something I'd actively want to back and revisit.

I don't know if that's any sort of consolation. If not, you could start more actively searching out people to translate the show. If you can find all the episodes somewhere then you could at least get a script, especially if there isn't much dialog.

One interesting thing to note, and it was actually something discussed on the Chinese forum at some point. That translation mentions how he must find the other swordsmen and combine their techniques to defeat the tiger. Sally, however, never does that. The horse uses the sword in the technique that defeats the tiger. Some people were discussing whether that meant the horse was the true swordsman. Trying to go the thread went to a 404 page, so I was only able to read snippets on a search result.

I don't know if Sally ever actually does the seven-swords technique. In season two, when they use the swords on the dragon, she's not there. We've seen Sally use her sword with several others, in a smaller technique, but the seven-swords technique is the big one.

And it was the fucking horse who did it.

One guy was trying for years to get it translated. He made threads on multiple forums and was begging for help at any chance he could get. He had 13 episodes subbed before his YouTube channel removed all of the videos. Episodes 5 and 6 only remained translated on YouTube because somebody stole them at the time and re-uploaded them.

If I had his original 13 episodes, I would take up his cause and try to get the rest. But starting over, from scratch, is a losing prospect.

During my snooping, I found one of the people on project trying to translate the series. Shot him an e-mail and actually got a response.

>Mike is a native speaker of English from the US. He has put a GREAT effort to the series while I didn't help.

>I can see his working draft through S01E013. The main drawback to him is the lack of transcript, which is my part of responsibility. (I joined a classical work-all-awake-time start-up at Beijing. I feel very sorry for him and you guys)

>Please note that I'm not a professional translator. The texts translated years ago might not be so accurate to deliver the meanings to you.

>We removed the videos in the fear of account suspension. YouTube has a "Content ID" system which identifies all HMLT episodes as copyrighted material owned by a licensee of the author.

>I asked Mike to delete all the videos because his YouTube channel is associated with his main Gmail account. (If you receive more than five copyright claims, you will be blocked from all Google services.)

>I don't think the original author (the GreatDreams studio) has a workaround if we got blocked. :(

>Currently we don't yet have a low-risk way to share fan-subbed episodes. If you have friends who are experienced in legal / license stuff, please ask them to help.

>Good news is that the studio is on its way to buy their rights back. PLUS an upcoming side-story series is going to be released soon!

There's always MEGA, or dailymotion, but these guys seem a bit too concerned about reprisals. Considering two episodes are still on YouTube, I don't think the company was actually sending out any copyright strikes.

He gave me Mike's e-mail. I'll send him one and at least make an inquiry.

I asked him about Sally and the horse, and why the other characters never seemed to do anything about what happened. Why they kept seeming to trust the horse even after everything. I'll let you know if I get an answer, and if I do, I could ask him your questions as well.

Also, I may be wrong, but I think Hongmao deliberately injured Sally to let her bleed out the poison.
>>
>>6739451
Thanks. I used Google translate on that, and I can follow it for the most part. Main problem is, I just realized the first half of the whipping scene and the scenes leading up to it are actually in episode 29.

How do you copy the text from the video? I wouldn't even know how to post Chinese characters without copying and pasting. The videos have the words displayed on screen, but I have literally no way of typing them out.

There are some sites that claim to be able to copy text from an image, but I have no idea if that includes Chinese text.
>>
>>6739618
God damn, I love modern technology. Those sites actually work. I'm sure there may be times where it will give me an issue, but it's giving me the characters. Bear comes through the window carrying Sally, says...

>虹猫 我回来了

Which, when ran through the translator, is...

>Rainbow cat, I'm back.

I need to keep pushing this. I can't imagine the translation will have a high degree of integrety, but it would be mostly accurate. Maybe I could try to actually subtitle a few key episodes with this. I'm just going to work on a few scenes for now.
>>
>>6739618
I type everything out. So if the the subtitles say "走吧," I type "zou ba," and the software converts it into hanzi. But if you've found websites that can directly translate from screenshots, that would be a lot quicker.

It would be quicker if I could get it to accurately work 100% of the time. Sometimes, I have to run an image multiple times to get the characters.

I can't get it to tell me the last character in this sentence, for example. I believe I got the rest of it correctly. 我把魔教的卧底给带回莱

I think that's right. It's just missing the last character.
>>
>>6740187
Yeah just replace 菜 with 来了.
>>
>>6740391
I guess it gave me the wrong character second to last? They look very similar, but the software is imperfect. I'm saving the characters as I go along, so if it gives me another issue, I can collect an alphabet of sorts that I can use to put in the right character.

I swear, this is going to be the world's worst translation. I'm going to try to get through one scene and then I'll upload it onto YouTube. My dummy account got a copyright strike, so if I get another, I'll probably have to create another dummy account.

Last two characters are 她吧.

Here are common similar looking characters:

他 - ta, he/him
她 - ta, she/her
地 - di, grammatical particle

吧 - ba, comes at the end of sentences sometimes
把 - ba, grammatical particle
>>
>>6740799
That's a big help. The translated sentence just changed from "good lessons learned" to "a good lesson to teach her". Big difference.
>>
This is not an entertaining prospect. It turns out that this isn't an exact science. I've translated 31 seconds of a scene so far, and for every sentence that reads somewhat OK, I end up with one that sounds... off.

I planned on doing the entire scene tonight. Including the fight. But I think I'm just going to wrap up with first part and upload it as a test. I need to see if they really do have content ID to strike uploads down. I also want to see if people think it's even readable.

I'm not a video editor. It's probably my first time ever adding subtitles to a video. I'm using the exact timing of the Chinese subtitles, but some of the words fly by pretty fast. Had to make the text smaller to fit it at the bottom.
>>
I can say with certitude that this was a horrible idea. If the websites worked 100% of the time, I could live with the bad translations. But sometimes, it's stubborn and gives you a slightly incorrect character. One sentence literally changed from...

>How do you finance

...to...

>what's wrong with you

..all because of one slightly wrong character. A few of the bad lines in this test video? I don't know if I can blame Google translate for that. I try to compare the characters to make sure they match the video, but sometimes, it's hard to spot a tiny difference.

The biggest problem is when the existing subtitles appear over the characters. That confuses the software to no end. If the characters were on a nice black strip, they'd probably work perfectly.

So, here. Here's my grand failure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyAKe1SSaz8
>>
>>6742440
And I just used characters in two different contexts... When the chinese characters appear over the animated characters, it causes problems. There.

I may try to do this for a few key scenes. I really want to see what she says when trying to kill the horse while the bear is defending her. But there's no way I could translate entire episodes doing this. It took me two hours to get a minute done, and it's not even respectable quality.
>>
>>6742440
Don't be so hard on yourself. One issue with Google translate is that it's kinda bad at translating long strings, so it might help to break them up. If you can post the erroneous transcriptions to a pastebin or Google doc, I can help correct them.
>>
>>6742537
I had just hoped it would have worked smother. If it really were as simple as making a screenshot and uploading it, copying the text and so forth, it would be super fast. But I often have to take multiple screenshots and edit the screenshots to get the text to be read properly by the websites.

It's great that the technology exists. But it's flawed technology. It requires a level of finesse that these videos don't have.
>>
>>6742440
Also, it would probably be better to use context to create more natural sounding translations rather than relying entire on Google Translate or whatever translation site.

For example, 我把魔教卧底给带回来了 is translated as:
"I put the evil undercover to bring back."

A slightly better translation might be,
"I caught the big bad's undercover agent."

I think it's best to use Google Translate along with a dictionary to resolve texts that don't make much apparent sense. Of course this is time consuming as fuck.
>>
>>6742759
I really like the show and have a lot of time on my hands, as boring as it is to do this, but I think I simply lack the language comprehension skills to make those conclusions.

I may abandon this particular episode for now and try doing the fight scene tomorrow where she seems to be going after the horse. I'll also try to keep better track of the Chinese characters so that, if push comes to shove, somebody can correct any mistakes or even do their own translations.

I'm not sure if this thread will still be up in the morning. It should, since /trash/ is slow. We'll see if things turn out any better with the other episode.
>>
I have to get to sleep now, but I did start working on the fight scene. It's going much, much quicker. It helps that the characters aren't currently standing in the way of the subtitles, and that the subtitles are actually larger than they were in the other episode.

Sally tells Ben to hand over the witch. He replies "Never thought", according to Google's translation. This is where my comprehension fails me. I need to finish a few more sentences to get a better sense of the context, but my gut instinct is that he's trying to say something like "no chance". Am I completely wrong? The Chinese text was 休想.
>>
>>6743264

I guess he could also be saying he doesn't think she's a witch, or he can't imagine her as one. I'll bookmark that site and keep working on the translation tomorrow.

If I can find a way to use these websites reliably, it would open up a lot of doors for me. I don't know if I would ever be able to translate entire episodes, but even making a few small scenes to simply let people watch key moments would do this show a lot of good. And other shows. Beijing Opera Cats is in the same boat, where their episodes have Chinese subtitles but no English ones.

I need to keep in mind that, in this instance, good is not the enemy of great. I think most people would rather have translations that are flawed than no translations at all.

Thanks again for all of your help. You've just given me a second wind.
>>
God speed OP
>>
Translation on that fight scene is proceeding well. Occasionally, I'll get a subtitle that the websites can't read. It can take me nearly 20 minutes to edit the screenshot to clean it up enough for the site to stop going full retard.

It would be largely impractical to translate an entire episode like this, I think.
>>
I managed to get the scene finished. I have to add the subtitles now and then upload it. The translation - mostly - makes sense. It took me over three hours to barely get 3-4 minutes of subtitles. Considering I don't know Chinese, I guess it's a small miracle I'm even able to get this far.

I don't know if Ben knows the full extent of what the horse did, but he outright tells Sally that, because her right hand is crippled, they need the horse to do the seven sword technique. That's the only reason they keep her around. So my wild guess was correct.

But I swear, I've looked through he remaining episodes and it never seemed like they were keeping a close eye on the horse. Maybe they were. Maybe they had reasons to believe she wouldn't act against them. But it stills trikes me as strange.

I may try to translate the scenes leading up to this fight, to see what Sally says before she runs off to try to get revenge. Not sure that will be worth making a clip of, but it's more for my own personal curiosity.

Running into an issue with the translation. When Ben asks her what she's going to do, she responds...

>我要赧仇

Now, Google has the mean "I want to naught", which makes no sense.

The second site I use has that mean "I want the blushing enmity ".

The dictionary site seems more in agreement with the second translation, but my comprehension is failing me. I'm not sure how one would word that approach in English.

I'm going with "I want my shameful enemy". The next line is Revenge. If I'm wrong about the line I used, I can change it later, but I can't get stuck here all day.

There's this exchange in the middle. First two lines are spoken by Ben and the third is Sally.

>再不住手 我可要生气了
>莎丽 别冲动
>那我就得罪了

Based on the three sites I use, the best line I could come up with the first one is, "If you don't stop, I'm going to get angry". I could be way wrong. The second line, I went with "Sally, don't be impulsive."

If those lines are accurate, or even accurate enough, it's Sally's response that is holding me up. Google translation has it as "Then I offended", and the second one has it as "I offended". The dictionary site has a whole myriad of meanings.

To me, translations shouldn't be guesswork. It feels wrong. Like cheating. Based on the context, since I think he said "If you don't stop, I'll get angry", her response is basically an acknowledgement that she won't stop, and that she will make him angry. But even if that is true, I'm not sure how to word it so that it's a faithful translation.

My fear is that I'm completely wrong. I could be misinterpreting the entire nature of the scene. It's... depressing.
>>
>>6749106
You have to face the fact that your Chinese is limited, and your translations may be full of mistakes. I don't have the context, but possible translations for the last line is:

"In that case, I've already offended you."
or
"In that case, I will offend you."
>>
>>6749337
My Chinese isn't limited - my Chinese is non-existent. But here, I did my best. I've been working on it non-stop for the past five hours.

It may get easier in time. I'm collecting the Chinese characters, and more than once, I was able to go back through the words I already have in order to fill in a character that the websites weren't able to pick up.

Is there still more guesswork here than I would like? Yes. Is it a literal word-for-word translation? No. But it's impossible for me to do that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXnYiT1SoTI
>>
>>6749590
When watching it at regular speed, the subtitles don't stay on the screen long. But I'm keeping the words on screen for as long as the Chinese subtitles were on-screen. The characters talk fast, so there's seldom time to really get to read the words.

But hey, it works. People can always hit pause if they need more time to read it.
>>
I did the scene briefly before she finds the horse, when she's following her tracks. She basically says that she finally found her, that she won't let her participate in the seven swords technique and that she'll collect on the blood debt that she owes. She really wanted that horse dead. Can't blame her.

If the "quality" of the video I made is acceptable enough, I could work on a few others. It's a slow process, and I do have other things to do. But I could see myself being able to get one-or-two scenes translated like this per day. It wouldn't be perfect, but it's better than nothing.

This thread is close to hitting the bump limit here. Good thing about /trash/ is most people usually don't care if you make another thread. It's not like it's going to drag down the quality of the board.

I decided to do one more scene. Sally's second suicide attempt. However, I'm 70% certain my translation is way off for one line - and it's an important line. After Sally decides that she can't kill herself, she says...

>可魔道未除

Google translates that as "Cannot remove the magic". My second translation site has it as "But the realm of the devil has not been eliminated." I went more towards the latter, but I don't feel like I got it right.

I looked at the various definitions and went with what I thought made sense in that scenario. I'm pretty sure I got it wrong. But hey, it's better than nothing.

>>
>>6751064
I think it's more like "I haven't washed away my sins," since she decides not to commit sudoku in order to redeem herself.

Also I think it would be better to write "Hongmao" and "Lantu" instead of "(the) Rainbow Cat" and "(the) Blue Rabbit."
>>
>>6751446
Where are people getting sins from? It's not in the definition thing from what I saw.

I'll see about changing the names later. It's just one of those things, you know? The show should technically be known as Hongmao and Lantu after translation, but it's been popularized as Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit. I guess both answers are correct. Lantu means Blue Rabbit, I suppose.
>>

It's not a literal translation. I think it's more like, "The evil is not yet eliminated," i.e. she's saying she can't kill herself yet because she has things to do.

I may be losing my mind. I've been at this for, what, ten hours straight? I'm almost finished getting all of the characters for Sally's first suicide scene. She's definitely more depressed there than in the second one, but I can't get an exact copy of this character.

It keeps giving me 獒, which looks similar and means mastiff. But that character seems to have a different bottom than the one in the image. No matter how I format the image - zoom in, clean it up, whatever - it either fails to read the character or it gives me the wrong one.

The rest of the sentence is...

>我甚至己经成了大家的累

Going with Google's basic translation for easier context, she says...

>I even became everybody's tired

Is mastiff the right word? Is she their tired dog? I don't think so. Has to be another character.

These websites are great when they work. When I can upload an image and it gives me the exact sentence, no fuss, it's like I won the goddamn lottery. Half of the time, I have to spend 10-20 minutes per subtitle just to get it to detect the fucking characters.
>>
>>6752634
The correct character is 赘. Google translate returns, "I even became a burden to everyone," when combined with the rest of the string.
>>
>>6753006
Correction: "I have even become a burden to everyone"

You may want to use a website like yellowbridge.com, which allows you to search characters by drawing them, though it's kinda unreliable for more complex ones.
>>
>>6753006
You have no idea how frustrating that was. Thank you for your assistance.

I'm almost done with this scene. It's definitely going to be the last one that I do tonight. This thread is scheduled to die soon, due to the nature of things. If it's dead in the morning, I'll make a new one with the three scenes I'll have done by then, and I'll fix the translations and names in the others.

I should be able to post this one soon. There will be a few awkward cuts because I'm cutting out whatever the hell the pig is saying in the in-between shots. I have no time for that bastard.

I bit off more than I could chew with that scene. It's only about two minutes long, but it's one of the more dialogue heavy points in the show because there is no action. It's just a girl trying to talk her friend away from suicide.

I'm... almost finished getting the characters, then I have to plug them into the subtitles. Hopefully the worst has passed.

Anyone still here to give me another hand? When Lantu shows up and first sees Sally, Sally turns to her and says...

>蓝兔 你不要管我

Based on the definitions, I think that's either "Lantu, you don't control me." or "Lantu, you don't care about me." They both seem like they could apply to the situation, as she wants to kill herself and doesn't want to be stopped.

Lantu replies.

>莎丽 你冷要静点儿
>多年以来

That second part is its own subtitle, but appears immediately after. The translations for that are... wonky. Google has it mean "Sally, you're cold" and "over the years".

Gun to my head, I'd say the sentence played out like.

>Lantu, you don't care about me.
>Sally, that's cold, I've known you for many years.

But is that right? Probably not!

Here it is. It's perhaps more depressing now that you can read her remarks. Although I'm sure Lantu screaming Sally's name two dozen times will get on your nerves by the end.

In a few years, I'm sure some Chinese guy will find my video and laugh about how badly I butchered the translation, but you know what? He can go fuck himself if he does. I tried, dammit. I can't believe I spent the entire day trying - I mean, it was 7:00 AM when I began working on the first scene and I've only managed to get three done. But it felt nice working on something again.

Does it seem okay to you all? There were a few lines of dialogue that seemed a bit off, but I did as much double and triple checking as I could.

Due to my misunderstanding of how Movie Maker works, I actually won't be able to go back and edit the videos to fix errors. They will stand forever, an eternal monument to my ineptitude. I did, however, go back and re-create the video of Sally's second suicide attempt, since it was short and I figured it wouldn't be much work to do. I changed Rainbow Cat and Blue Rabbit to their names, and I changed "devil" to "evil". It's probably still not right, but hey, it's better.

The first video was actually good. Everything made sense and flowed smoothly. I still am surprised this show is made for kids:

>Sally fucks up
>Tries to an hero

Thread probably won't survive the night, but does anybody have any specific scenes they'd like translated like this? It's better than nothing, but I doubt I would be able to get any super long scenes. 2-3 minutes seems to be my breaking point. Took way too long that last time.

I may make a new thread later today. Not sure how many people are still poking around this thread's corpse. But here.

If you want people to find the video you should name and tag it with info of the original show?

I tend to keep my uploads private. Things to be shared on 4chan, but not the broader public. I recently made one video public and it bit me in the ass with a copyright strike - that was an animated music video about urban foxes.

The content ID system instantly detects even private videos, but I've never received a copyright strike for that. Usually, it just gets blocked in certain countries of the owner automatically monetizes my video. But if a video starts showing up in Google search results, and somebody happens to find it and report it manually, that's when you get the big X.

So I'm intentionally keeping it obscure. At least for now.

It seems I once again bit off more than I can chew. This scene is five minutes long, which far surpasses my... capabilities. I have the characters for half of it so far, but even then, the translation is... wonky.

When Black Tiger - diaguised as Lantu - first sees Lantu he says...

>蓝兔宫主

That comes off as Blue Rabbit Miyaji. The Chinese wiki, when translated, also refers to her as Miyaji. My secondary translation has it as Blue Rabbit Palace Host, and one of the behind-the-scenes videos also called her Palace Host.

But the literal definition is empress.

Is Lantu an empress? Of the palace? Would having him say Empress Lantu be incorrect?

I get so stuck on these little sentences, when there are plenty of big sentences also giving me trouble.

I was hoping to get a fourth scene "translated" first, but I ran into too many difficulties and had to abandon that scene. I may make a new thread, but it's hard to tell how much interest you all still have.
