What artists learn from is also important. Asians look towards Japanese and their kemono, and they had geniuses like Tezuka Osamu pave the way, while western artists were surrounded with cartoons and fantasy book illustrations that gravitated towards "realism".

Theres always been something i find weird about what both eastern and western furry don't do but which monstergirls did.
The animals they're based off of has some influence on they're behavior and personality.

Yeah, this is my main hang-up. I like kemono stuff, but I like Western furry porn more with its wider variety of styles to look at.

The Japs seem to have more of a unified art style. They're a collectivistic culture, so it wouldn't surprise me if all Jap artists learn their skill in more or less the same way, and they're probably also being inspired by more or less the same sources.

I mean, "kemono" doesn't just describe furry porn from Japan. It describes furry porn in the Japanese style. And in Western art, there is an individualistic approach, where you could identify a bunch of styles, including Western artists who take after the kemono style.

Though, I have to say, the kemono tendency of "moefying" animalistic facial features kind of bothers me. Sometimes it can look as if the characters are regular hentai girls with black noses.

The fact that "Western" style encompasses several styles of doing anthro material is at the same time its advantage and its weakness compared to kemono. With kemono, you essentially know what you're going to get. And I really like what it offers, which makes it one of my favorite styles. But with Western art, while you will like less of it, occasionally you'll find artists who do stuff that really tickles your boner.

I think that Easter artist seem to have dedication to completing a drawing in a type of style.I always figured that their handwriting is partially to blame for their style, same with Western styles.
In fact, Van Gogh was heavily influenced by Japanese art, as was a lot of Europeans at the time.
Japonaiserie, a term that was used to express the influence of Japanese art, which we can see that a lot in digital artist nowadays, whether they like it or not. Personally, I like all styles especially ones that try something new.

Most eastern art relies on simplification of features and cutesy designs instead of attempting actual anatomy. Flounder faces or omission of mouths at all are very common.

Western artists try to draw it all out which is far more difficult and results in more bad art when they don't know how.

I very rarely seem to prefer a Japanese artist's style. I think I just don't like their approach to faces, particularly eyes. Of course, there is plenty of inspiration going both ways. I also think we're exposed to a lot more bad western art than bad Japanese art, which might either be because they don't share their bad art as much or only good Japanese art becomes well known to the western audience. Eh, I dunno.

Maybe if you overwhelmingly prefer kemono art, you're just a big anime fan. And that's fine.

Not really. There are exceptions, but eastern artists fuck up just as bad as western artists in that area.

I've only looked on pixiv if I already knew the artist from elsewhere. Jap internet in general is a total nightmare to navigate, even when you take the language barrier into account. I always thought it was a cruel joke that Japan has this worldwide reputation for being cutting edge, when in reality they're stuck in the past with so many things. Part of me is convinced that they're considered cutting edge because they still haven't replaced their 80's and 90's positive future image with the current negative future image we have in the West, which is why they all still think they can build androids. After all, in the 80's and 90's we all thought it was going to be Star Trek all the way, too, and media were full of stories about advances in robotics and stuff like that.
