Sure Castro was a dictator and everyone would have preferred if he was a democratically elected president. But the fact is he brought Cuban's life expectancy on par with the US (79 years), Boys and Girls on average attend school (for free!) for 14 years. Their infantile mortality is lower than in the US, same for maternal mortality. They developed a lot of vaccines, Cuba sent out 350k medical humanitarian missions to third world countries and it's honestly very easy to see Cubans are much better off under Castro than comparable neighbouring states like Haiti or the Dominican Republic.
