/tup/ - Tulpa General
"A friend is what the heart needs all the time."
~Henry Van Dyke
>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

How many of you actually compromise with your tulpa music-wise?
>>6358894
Yeah, we all have different musical tastes. Isabelle doesn't like thrash metal at all really, but she likes prog rock, but she generally isn't picky. Now, my other one likes thrash metal, but she also likes rap. Keeping a 2GB mp3 between three people can get a little hard sometimes, especially if you have to delete and replace stuff because they get bored.
anyone here ever have their tulpa complain about the music on the radio, even thoughs its kinda your favorite. so you listen and change the station anyways.... (Emily) sometimes....just sometime....
>>6359086
I don't have that much memory among my tech but my tulpa and I have like a venn diagram of what we like going on. Usually if I'm gonna be listening to the same Pandora station for a long time I try to pick something I know isn't gonna grate on him. Music on my phone is kind of a toss-up though, if there's not service. I'd say he likes about 35% of what I have downloaded

>>6359117
I don't like most music at all.
My tupperware sometimes even dances to it.
My tulpa was an imaginary friend that just kind of stayed around for 20 yrs. I feel him touch me somtimes but he does his own thing, he's often not here but I can easily feel when he show's up, great guy. Always supportive, kind of dry sense of humor.
/x/ tried telling me he's a demon or somthing, because I couldn't really tell you what he looks like but he feels human enough, or at least not threatening. He likes to sit and watch me build settlements on fallout.

Ever regret having a tupla? I'm thinking of making one but I don't want to fuck myself later down the line.
How do your tuplas feel about you fapping? Do they watch?
>>6365763
No regrets.
They sometimes join in.
>>6365763
Also no regrets. You probably won't have any doubts if you make one, too, it's almost purely a positive experience.

>>6365763

>>6366012
I have tried to set these boundaries, but my tulpa specifically chooses to stay around during those things. Trust me, I have tried. She always finds some way to stall, and she is incredibly stubborn about staying.

I don't think I'd mind if my tulpa was a girl, hell, it'd even be cute if she insisted to stick around during shit like that.
Boundaries and respect are pretty important for the two of us, and that's definitely a two way street. He stays away while I fap, and I don't drink more than 2 or 3 nights a week because he finds it harder to talk when I'm drunk. It's a give and take.
>>6366359
> I have tried to set these boundaries, but my tulpa specifically chooses to stay around during those things. Trust me, I have tried.
Mine actually refuses to follow me in certain places. Hardly even had to set boundaries for 'em. Like the bathroom, she always gets flustered when I go in the bathroom specifically because it's the men's bathroom and girls should not be there. It's kinda cute.
>>6365763
I have my own set of boundaries that don't cross. Usually it's anything involving the bathroom and when I'm having sex or pleasuring myself. Sometimes when I'm feeling like I don't mind an audience I'll let one of them watch during sexy times or fapping but it's rare...
Does /tulpa/ like to drink tea? Me and my tulpa have recently been addicted to green tea, and the only one who regrets it is my wallet.

I have coffee mostly, but my tulpa loves to drink earl grey and green tea.

>>6365949
That's been a problem for me. I wanted to keep her out of my masturbation, which backfired and now I end up thinking of her ~75% of the time I masturbate. Not in a sexual way (we're never very sexual with each other), but more like "oh, sorry <name>, could you come back in a bit"

>>6376993
I have more than that and I'm very congenial. What do you base this opinion on?

I base this opinion on the majority of people with several tulpas being either attention whores or just grating in general.

You are speaking for an entire group of people without their consent, worse yet an entire group of individuals without their consent. If anyone is a grating attention whore with a horrrible personality, it's you. You go out of your way to make a random, judgemental comment on people with "more than 2 or 3 tups" which seems like a pretty obvious cry for attention, you continue on to refer to the "majority" of those people as "being either attention whores or just grating in general", and then when you get called out on it you get defensive and make more assumptions. TL;DR, here's your (you), I hope you get shanked in the street you judgemental, grating, attention whore.

I've rarely seen this.
For the most part, individuals remain individuals and people vary in their behavior. I've met and were good friends with people who have more than three, and have also observed people with less than that being given to judgemental behavior and starting fights that ironically call more attention to themselves.
Maybe I am wrong some how? What proof do you have of this claim?

I've been meaning to ask, what's the difference between a tulpa and a multiple personalities disorder?

Tulpas aren't disordered, and DID is more of a community about recovery. DID alters stem from trauma, and the people with it deal with battles against PTSD and anxiety

DID doesn't help you.
>>6381623
It's different for every person, but I think it is fair to say that they are generally great at fighting depression, being a personal therapist, motivating you to become a better person and replacing feelings of loneliness with warm fuzzy hugs.

What was Tulpa.info like back in the day?
>>6382978
Bad. Not nearly as bad as it was when I went there last mind you, but bad.
Does anyone know how common Tulpas really are? What fraction of people in the real world have them? 1/10,000?
>>6382978
It was a hive of hard working assholes. They would help when you asked but didn't have to like it. If you did something stupid, you where sure to know it was stupid and then some. It was both the worst and best era of thr comunity.
>>6383018
Tulpa.info has 11k users, if we estimate that say 500 more people have tulpas that don't know or aren't on .info, we get 0.000153333333333% of the global population.
I probably borked the math, but 1 in 652174 or so people is what I got (rounded up from 652173.9130434783)
>>6383067
>the vast majority of hosts have accounts on tulpa.info
>>6383371
I'd argue that they do. Whether they still use them or not isn't relevant except in certain cases where the tulpa has been dissipated, which would likely only lower the number by 10-20 at most.
>>6383403
I don't. I used .info a lot in the beginning for reading guides, but never saw a point in making an account. Participating in the shitty community doesn't really help me make a tulpa.
>>6383784
Then you aren't part of the "vast majority", are you?
>>6383784
Everyone who still hangs around there seems weird.
>>6383816
How do you know I'm not? From my experience, any website that has information but where participating in community is optional and requires extra effort, there will be a large amount of lurkers, often dwarfing the number of registered members. But obviously you won't have any metrics to measure them by unless the web master gives out numbers of unique visitors, so ultimately it's a wild guess.
>>6383816
>>6383905
>>6383905
That's why I made it 11,500 instead of 11,200 or whatever is in .info. I find it difficult to believe there are more than 11,500 people who have tulpas, maybe 12,000 at the very most if we're going to be generous.
Your tulpa will live a trapped life, void of real interactions and robbed of a childhood. They will be forced to leech off of memories which are not their own, for parts of the life that humans are notorious for romanticising. They will be thrown into the world of adult cynicism, never being given the chance of child-like innocence. They will not make basic mistakes, they will not learn basic things. They will not be well-adjusted.
Would you desire this unto yourself? Do not make a tulpa.
>>6385731
eh, being a meat person sucks. I can literally make philly cheese steak subs out of nothing and do whatever I want, without any real responsibility besides sticking around my host. It's actually quite comforting being a tulpa, as you are free from a lot of shitty human stuff like pain, unless you specifically cause pain to yourself by smacking into a tree or something. Even then, you can prevent it by making the tree rubber or deleting it or whatever.
>>6385731
> They will be thrown into the world of adult cynicism, never being given the chance of child-like innocence. They will not make basic mistakes, they will not learn basic things.
You don't have a tulpa, do you?
>>6384209
I would estimate at least 20k lurkers as a lower bound. If it's like normal online communities, which it obviously isn't, 10 times as many lurkers as active users. How many non lurker, non users exist? Your guess is as good as mine. Let's say 500.
It's probably mostly Americans using the site too, so all these numbers would only apply to America/other English speakers.
31500/500mil is 0.000063, or about 1 in 15000
>>6385731
Seems you know nothing about tulpas, friend.
>>6386208
Again those numbers seem really high to me, maybe I'm missing the scale here but 1 in 15000 seems like an absurdly high amount of people.
>>6385731
Hahahah, yeah I've been so traumatized by being able to do whatever I want, whenever I want.
Oh, woe is me.
>>6385731
Oh hey I'm talking to you right now, I guess that makes this a real interaction. Nice try jackass, give it your A game next time.
>>6385911
You will never find the true love of your life, get to know them for a while only to meet them IRL for the first time, only to find out that you love them despite their physique not being quite what you hoped for. You will never feel the warmth of their smile when they understand that you feel this way.

>>6387190
A lot of tulpas are more than capable of real interactions, it's called possession. Furthermore, a lot of tulpas tend to have a childhood or a learning-phase which they tend to spend a lot of time on, whether they decide to tap into your knowledge or not.
They also don't "leech off of memories", their memories are made with their experiences in the wonderland or with the host. They're also not thrown into the world of "adult cynicism", I can definitely say a lot of tups tend to refuse to deal with the issues of real life and just want to spend time with us. Also, a lot of tups also start out with child-like innocence, mine included.
They're also capable of making basic mistakes and learning from them, and can be well-adjusted based on your intentions for them.
Basically, all of that shit would never happen with a tulpa if you do not have any intentions for them to do these things and that is why you don't know ass about tulpas.

Any song with at least two singers singing at some parts separately and at some parts together, so long as we at least vaguely know the lyrics. All of the ones that come immediately to mind are love songs, but I think that's just because the structure is well suited to love songs. Here's an example.

>>6386342
Very roughly, assuming the typical person here "knows" about 600 people and that there is no correlation between having a tulpa and knowing someone with a tulpa, that means you'd have to go through 25 of us before finding 1 person that "knows" someone else with a tulpa.
>>6392315
I highly doubt most people here know 600 people well enough, even if you define it to include people on the internet.

Now what about this: do they ever give you stuff to say while you're talking to other people? Like, for an example, if someone was roasting you? Would your tupla give you some fire comebacks immediately, or would it ignore the entire thing and let you deal with it yourself?

Honestly I don't think creating them is a good idea for most people.
>>6397257
Keep in mind that the 1 person almost certainly wouldn't know which of the 600 people he knows actually has a tulpa.
>>6392483
I just pulled the number from the New York Times. For that study, you "knew" someone if you could recall knowing someone with their name. I would treat that number as an upper bound, meaning the 1 in 25 number I gave would be an optimistic estimate. I was trying to make the point that 1/15000 is very small.

Has anyone here 'come out' to their friends? I can't imagine telling anyone, including future wife. It's just too awkward.
I feel guilty about it, even though my tup doesn't mind at all.
>>6399640
Why would they need to know, if they're not affected by or interested in it?
You're doing the same thing as the obnoxious "gotta come out of the closet" homosexual fags.
>>6399640
Don't tell them. It will just make you look crazy and make things awkward for a while.
Why would you even feel a need to tell anyone about your imaginary friend on steroids?
Alright fags tell me about your Tup's movie taste.
Does she/he like your favourite film?

She doesn't even like movies. Though she did enjoy Codename: Kids Next Door: Operation Z.E.R.O.

To be honest that's something you should make peace with BEFORE making a tulpa.
It's one of those things people have in mind when telling others to think this over before starting the creation process.
She/he will never live a normal life, you're naive if you think otherwise.
>>6400802
Yeah, you're right. It's just a nagging concern that I have all the time even though she tells me it's fine.

Do any of you guys get actively manipulated for your own good by your tulpa?
A cheerful greetings to any other Night Owl in the thread. Do your tulpa stay up with you?
>>6408818
some of them do, some of them don't
>>6408825
Mine tend to sleep at night, though they will some times get up and grab my attention even during night hours. Sometimes when I think about it a sense of loneliness occasionally seeps in, but it's a matter of time until they're up and I can speak freely with them again.
I work at night sometimes, so this arrangement is actually convenient.
>>6399640
My best friend knows, and they've become friends too. If she's switched in she'll talk to him using italics over IM, since that's always how I differentiate us when I proxy for her. She's even played online games with him and had phone conversations.
He's pretty chill though, most people would probably think I'm crazy.

And honestly, I really don't care about that account to fact check it. If it's fake it's not worth thinking about, if it's real, the guy did it to himself, literally. There's nothing he can blame but his own dedication to his fetish.

I actually passive forced a bit recently while playing Dishonored, that game is tough on hardest and trying not to kill anyone.

>>6424293
The show on netflix A Young Doctor's Notebook & Other Stories reminds me a lot of tulpas. I've been watching it with my tup as we're trying to work on imposition.
>>6424293
I started experimenting with talking out loud while passive forcing. After getting over the initial paranoia over being heard by someone, it helps a lot with keeping the right kind of focus.
>>6424689
Talking outloud has been shown to make people retain information better. It stands to reason that talking outloud with your tulpa would make forcing work better. Nice job anon, keep up the good work.
>Tfw not active forcing for over a week
>Tfw no progress in the last few weeks
>Tfw asked tulpa what would make her cry
>Expected her to say "not forcing"
>She said me getting hurt.
>Tfw even after neglecting her she's still not angry at me.
I-I'm sorry I'll get back to forcing now.

How do I into tulpa independance?
>>6426526
Make your tup do math while you relax your mind into not solving the question.
Brendan Fraser tulpa when? Only then can he be safe from the alimony.
>>6425764
We have the same problem. We had progress a few months ago, then I really let go and it all went away. She knows that I'd do better if I could, but I'm really not in the right place to be spending lots of time forcing.
I've just started making my tulpa but I'm still confused about a couple of things. Is passive forcing just taking to your tulpa throughout your day or do I also have to mentally visualize him when I'm taking to him? Also is it best to alternate from passive and active when I have time to?
>>6427018
Pretty much. No. Yes, but you really should active at least an hour every day.
Also, question for those with more than one tulpa: do they ever use forms that are related in some way? Better question, do they get along?
>>6416339
>is this real?
it may be, who knows
>can having a tulpa be this dangerous?
yes, everything can hurt you when misused
>what does /tup/ think?
giving control over to your tulpa willingly always seems like a bad idea
>>6427364
>do they ever use forms that are related in some way
Eldest and middle do.
>do they get along?
They have their squabbles, but other wise they get along bretty good.
> Have meditation session with tulpa after ages of passive
> Feels good man
> Tulpa feels more solid and real.
> Days later realize I haven't done passive or spoken much to her.

I feel things about this, Anons...
