How much has been discussed about Judy at the academy? She comes to Zootopia completely naive to the discrimination she's going to face. I find it hard to believe this wasn't the same when she was in school.

Did she have friends? Did she talk to people? Was she completely a self taught, self instructed student who didn't have any interaction with her fellow candidates? Was everyone with her completely 100% prejudice free?

Judy seems to be one bun that will put her career above everything (except family). However, seeing her interaction with McHorn the first day at the ZPD I would say that in the academy she tried to have some friends. Maybe she was excluded at first but then she was more and more accepted.
Still I will stay by the common opinion that, while she interacted with the world around her, she was so career-oriented that she remained naive and turbovirgin.

Alright kids, as you probably know, Human In Zootopia stories tend to (not all, but in my experience most) suck. Would any of you want to read a HiZ story, provided it was written well? Perhaps even with believeable dialogue and character depth which most of these stories tend to lack.

Well, first of all, how do you define written well and believable dialog, character depth?
Do you mean you have one you want to share, or are you planning on writing one?

Actually, even if I thought it would be relatively well written the answer is no, I don't want to read a HiZ story.

He's super cute! Also the real reason is that I find graphic styles really intimidating to adapt, since I don't just want to copy the style. So it'd be a day or two of studies, and thinking about the lines of the skull, and worrying about the differences to the original, and whatever else comes up. It's what happens every time I draw a pack street character.

I'm fairly sure I'll get to it eventually, though.

Ah, I see.
Something with a species that hasn't been seen very much or not at all could be neat.
One thing that interests me is a setting with the canon pred/prey population distribution. Most of the fiction I've read seems to be very predator character heavy for a setting with a 9:1 prey/pred ratio. A story with 10 or more prey characters and only a few, maybe even just one, predator would be interesting, I think.

>Also the real reason is that I find graphic styles really intimidating to adapt, since I don't just want to copy the style.

Understandable. I'll admit my style's pretty cartoony in comparison, so adapting it to a slightly more realistic style would be tricky. I think it's a worry a lot of people have when adapting characters to their own styles, albeit some to less extremes than others.

>I'm fairly sure I'll get to it eventually, though.
Again you don't have to, but I'm grateful that you considered it. I'm not an adamant commentor (off of anon anyway), but I do love your style. It's realistic, but it also has a unique charm to it all its own.

Velvet was worst girl until she was clarified in the latest chapter. And the best I've seen from Anneke is from noncanon fics from other people.

Real koalas are stupid, whiny, angry little shitheads.
You're better off.

Imagine being a Zootopian koala though. You're probably considered an ignorant, stupid little prey animal. No one probably thinks or expects much of you. Would you be happy with that? Would you learn to live to those low expectations, or strive to go above them?

Hey, at least other mammals think you're adorable! So they'll just treat you like a stupid child your entire life. Maybe they're right in doing so, but maybe not.

Maybe things are better in the outback island.

Oh I bet it all works perfectly... until the point it doesn't.

>Clancy tried batting his eyes at the wolf. The damn pred was angry that Clancy'd spilled his drink, and had even followed him into the bar's bathroom. Stupid pred. Just a little innocence and he'd forget all about the insult.
>"Please sir, I didn't mean to spill your drink... it was just an accident." He couldn't help but smirk underneath it. Mammals were so easy to manipulate, especially preda-
>"Shut the fuck up you little bitch." The wolf pushed Clancy up against the wall, the Koala's fur mixing in with graffiti as if he was made for it.
>Clancy shuddered slightly at the wolf's touch. Surely he wasn't seeing through his cuteness. No one could do that. He tried looking even more pure, "But sir... I really didn't mea-" He found his mouth occupied by one of the wolf's claws. The pred fur slowly slipping in his lips, while the claw itself pinned his tongue down.
>"Listen you little creep. I've been watching you all night." Why did Clancy's heart skip a beat? "I've seen the way you act. All nice and innocent to get what you want. And I've seen the way you look at preds when you think your friends ain't watching."
>Clancy shuddered involuntarily. What the hell did the wolf mean? How was he looking at preds? His eyes were drawn to the pred's other paw, tugging at its zipper.
>"Don't worry, I'll show you another way to get what you reeaaaaally want. No lies." The zip went down, and out slipped a large, throbbing, crimson dick.
>Clancy tried to back up, forgetting he was pinned against the wall. His captor growled, freezing him in place. "All you gotta do to get some of what you want, what you crave... is beg for it."
>Clancy felt the claw pull back from his tongue. He wanted to shout, to cry for help... but the only word that slipped from his lips was "Please..."

nobby made a very good post about (yous). First off, you never know who'll you inspire or who will absolutely love your work, even if you yourself find it lacking.

Secondly, if you focus on self-development and HAV FUN (no seriously, you need to enjoy it) fame will come naturally. You don't have to draw like Rem or write like Boney_M to grow or be noticed, it all simply boils down to ideas and stories you want to tell.
>>
>>6124147
It's still not about appearances.
Trust me, the audience might scorn your cake for not being as impressive, but if you get the taste just right they'll want it everyday. Begging for more, their fingers plunging into the frosting so that they can lick it off.

Sure, they'll hate themselves for it, but they just will have to deal with that, and get used to their desire for your corrupting cake.
The way that crumbs linger on their lips, as the cheap sponge slides down their throat.

No one should like a cake this bad, but with just a little taste, they've become hooked.

To enjoy and hone one's craft is fine, but many people also want to share their enjoyment of said craft, and if they're not getting any sort of reaction or response, it generally feels like you're just talking to yourself.
You should take pride in doing it for yourself, but it still feels a little discouraging and devaluing when it seems like only yourself cares about it.

Yes, I know that feel. But you must not let it dominate.
Here in the threads I have wrote, drew and edited for tens of different creations. Various times I've got not a single reply, sometimes I've got a lot. And of some things I did I've recently seen some people asking for more. And I never expected that. What I say is that there are more people who cares than it seems, however for various reasons they will not give (You)s, be it the hours, because it got lost in the flow of the thread, or many, many others.
Sure, many works you've put a lot of effort in will be not noticed, it happens. What you need to do is grit your teeth and continue creating. I know it sounds like a overused motivation, but it is what it takes. I'm sorry I could not give better advice.

Some fic I posted gets absolutely no attention, no matter how much I reshill, but then sometime later some discussion pops up and suddenly someone brings up my fic like they had read it completely.

Less than likely, but considering how these threads try hard to push "feedback = personal offense" and how desperate you guys are for any content, I'd be surprised if by the end of the week we have Mead leaving because someone said JID wasn't really that good. yes, I think you need to adjust your mindset. Bear in mind, people are both sensitive about giving feedback here as a lot feel like they're not qualified to opine, and, well, lazy.

You can see from the above discussion a lot of people are struggling to get any sort of response, so I suppose you should appreciate the fact someone actually liked your story enough to solve captcha a bit more. I know it sounds bitter, but most people are perfectly happy to consume content and also want to avoid accidental backslash voicing their opinion when not asked.
>>
>>6124573
No, that's totally understandable. I think every content creator ends up there eventually. I've felt it, Weaver's felt it, it's more common than you'd think. I've started putting in my notes at the end of my stories things along the lines of "If you can, tell me the things you liked and the things you think could have been improved." It's actually netted me some decent criticism that I couldn't disagree with and has helped me out.
>>
>>6122667
This is the dumbest lie those threads spread, even more so since people spread the idea where people here value all CCs. You create shit for yourself THEN you post here and just enjoy the discussion without caring about attention, you probably wont get any.

I generally ask once someone has commented on the post; "What did you think of the characters/story?"
I know it is somewhat of an irrational annoyance, and I don't expect paragraphs of critique or anything like that. I do get happy that people like what I write enough to comment, just sort of wish there was a little more? I don't want to discourage people from saying "I liked this story" and such, just my personal feelings on it.
>>
>>6124658
Spoken like someone who isn't an artist. If I wanted to just create for myself, I'd just draw in my sketchbook and never show anyone. But I draw and take requests and post here because I like the responses.

We can't all be the platonic ideal of an artist and just draw for the sake of the craft. Feedback and encouragement are important and it's dumb to tell artists to just suck it up.

>Is it wrong that I get just a tad bit annoyed even when people comment "nice story" or "I liked this" on my works?
I don't think you're wrong to feel that way at all. As a writefag, I'd rather get harsh criticism than hear the words "keep up the good work" one more time. I know that sounds ungrateful and that writefagging has this stigma of being a shelter for those who cannot draw (thus implying a writefag should be grateful for ANY attention he might receive), but "keep up the good work" may very well be the single most useless piece of feedback I receive, and I get it on a near-daily basis.

Well, most people, including myself, feel like as nitpicking cunts when they criticize something not really major.
>>
>>6124822
Weirdly enough, I've actually found some of my best discussion/talking points to be by specifically asking other writefags what they think. Writefags are more likely to give you a response if their opinion is solicited because they understand the struggle, and they're also writers by nature meaning you're going to get critique (and iron sharpens iron as they say, so it's a bonus). That said, mindset is part of it, and when it all comes down to it, I write for two reasons: to entertain people (primary) and to improve my craft (secondary). I've written stories that have derailed entire threads and I've written stories that have gotten one or two replies with nothing of substance other than "nice story I liked it". Figuring out what your audience responds to is, frankly, a total crap shoot.

Now that I know there's someone here who's actively seeking out writing feedback, though, I'd be happy to provide it.

>>6124864
You laugh, but even that's more welcome than "keep up the good work" if for no other reason than being a different arrangement of words.

>>6124896
Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone responds to feedback the same way. Some writers are thick-skinned enough they can handle nitpicking. Some aren't. That's why when I provide feedback especially if I'm asked for it, I try to find something positive (even if the work is a shitmess) and something negative (even if I was absolutely enthralled with it) so that the author has information to work with.

Probably.
Some prey mammals likely have different stereotypes attached to them though, just like different preds. Like fixed being shifty and wolves being dimwits.

Those ones just apply to koalas, likely even moreso than rabbits, considering a koala doesn't know how to EAT unless their food is on a tree, and their brains are embarrassingly tiny for their head size.

Again though I assume zootopia koalas are at least smarter than ones in nature. They would have to be to function in society, but considering Zootopia relies on animal stereotypes being 'cute' and 'stupid' seems especially fitting.

Maybe even more so than rabbits. I never saw a Zootopia rabbit as 'stupid' so much as 'naive'.

I understand where a lot of the hatred to blind praise comes from. I've always felt giving complements can be a blessing and a curse when on one hand I think it can boost someone's self-esteem to continue, and on the other, if it happens too much, the creator could feel like they're being babied.
I like to give acknowledgment to work that garners little to no attention, and I'd love to criticise it, but not knowing exactly how to criticise due to not drawing or writing would make me feel like I'd be giving the wrong criticism, like blind leading the blind.

If only he could find something else that good, so protein filled which would just slide down.

this money didn't go to Disney though. well, opening weekends did.

Sure I'd LOVE this to become Disney's Toy Story kind of franchise (Shorts, Sequels, merch etc.), however lack of catchy music made this movie great instead of perfect.

Sounds like you haven't been paying attention to the overwhelmingly positive reception from the general public and critics alike. Or to the other much less well-received Disney movies that are getting sequels.

Your only point is basically that it didn't have good enough music.

It won't be Toy Story again, but I guarantee it gets a sequel. It's obvious to anyone who's paid attention to Disney Animation Studios over the last 5 years

I actually disagree.
The movie we got felt more like a bait and switch to me.
It spent maybe the first hour building up a wonderful fantasy world only to immediately change the subject to one of politics.
The change felt out-of-place at best.

In the previous concept, the world was already corrupted the whole way through.
It would've been more fitting to fit in such a message there.

I don't understand why people consider this movie to be in particular about racism. It is a film about prejudice, in every form possible, there is no one to one correspondence to particular prejudices in our world.
For this reason the authors wanted the audience to like the city. Because it wanted to teach that prejudice, even when it not appears on the surface it is always present in each of us. And we have to live with that, but we can make things better accepting this fact and make our choices based on opinion not influenced by prejudice. And so the whole experience can be not only bearable, but also enjoyable for everyone.
The previous city was something everyone hated and so it raised the simple question: 'Why don't predators escape and create a city without collars?'
>>

>He opened the door to her apartment, she'd phoned him up, inviting him. It was like walking into the lion's den, but at least he'd be able t- oh god no.
>"Oh Nick! Glad to see you!" Judy called from a pile of fuzz on the floor. She'd set up a game of twister, and along with her was that strangely striped bun from work. "You remember Jack Savage, don't you?"
>Nick stared for a moment, open mouthed, before he remembered himself. "Sure, nice to see you again, Jack."
>Two of them. Two buns, twisting and turning all over each other. He dropped the coin in his pocket as he felt his dick start to rise... well, there was always next November.
>>
Would people be interested in a guide on how to give critiques?
>>
>>6126465
Eh it wouldn't really be rude, sometimes we just grow up without learning those stereotypes. Some are more obvious/well-known than others, such as Lions being prideful, Bunnies being cute little things that breed like no tomorrow, and Weasels being thieves. Foxes being sly tricksters is somewhat more of older folktale type of thing.

>>6126461
Amusingly, we still haven't gotten the lewd JillxNick greentext yet, the author has done what two building up to it?

>>6126502
>I don't understand why people consider this movie to be in particular about racism. It is a film about prejudice, in every form possible,

Exactly this; prejudice is more than just racism. It is thinking that the country hick is clueless about the real world. It is about thinking if someone has a tat and a lot of piercings they must be trouble. Someone has a lot of money, must be a snob. City folks don't know a honest day of hard work.

>>
>>6126502
The thing is though, prejudice doesn't just explode on such a large scale like after the press conference scene.
I understand the message about everyone having prejudice, but it was presented far too extremely for me to be able to relate it to anything in the real world.
It's hard to take the message seriously with such a drastic change like that.

What is Charlie supposed to be, a captain?

Part of that is just something unique to Zootopia that is, understandably, hard for humans to relate to as well as not showing too much of those three months of fear. The general reaction after the conference, in my mind, was probably "Pff, predators going savage. They are full of shit, those preds are probably drugged or something."
Then we get a single week of 27 savage attacks from completely unrelated incidents and suddenly it is all too real. The idea that these mammals, naturally armed with claws and fangs and "savage instinct", can go nuts at a moment's notice would get the population in a panic real quick. The fear was probably always in the back of the mind of prey (shown from Stu and Bonnie), but now it had evidence to go along with it.

Avo's head is a little off

Pretty decent, dude
>>

Actually, if you think about it, the scene after the conference wasn't so extreme.
It's true, prejudice doesn't explode magically. Instead it was always there, hidden under the 'good intentions of unity' of the city. There was always a distrust between preds and preys and the attacks only showed that.

Also, as >>6126821 said, remember that between the conference and Judy resigning passed three months. Three months where the preds attacks where almost a daily occurence, spreading like an infection, SEEMING like an infection. The protest where only after that. I think you can concur that three months of non-stop attacks would have created quite the panic in the prey population.

Fucking, Super Satan.
Nicky can feel her dad's grief and everything she does only puts it off for a day at best. And being a child she finally does the unthinkable and pretends to be her mom to her dad. Wearing her dead mom's clothes, acting like her, doing whatever she did.
Needless to say Mr. Wilde is too far down the dark abyss of depression to be angry. All this does is push him a few fathoms deeper.
Then he feels a pair of lips pressed against his and he rises on the wings of memories. Until he opens his eyes and sees that he stole his daughter's first kiss. Disgusted, he tears himself away, feeling something other than nothingingness for once, self-hatred.
He opens his mouth to say... something! But his daughter's there, trying to ram her tongue down his throat. She speaks before he can and his fate is sealed.
She pours out between sobs that he's been so sad lately, how she couldn't stand it, how she had to do something, "Do you hate me Daddy?"
He pretends later, when he's in his (and his daughter's bed), that what they did was mutual. But he will forever know that he took the lead, and his daughter followed wherever he went.

Mind a little critique?

>>6126455
In all likelihood, she's going to get Nick killed and try to ignore it by focusing on how much of a hero she's going to be.
Nick's last thought's will be
>She wasn't worth this.

But the initial reactions *were* extreme though.
Nick scolded Judy for the things she said as soon as she got off the podium,
and even the fucking press was hard pressed for conveying her message when they asked questions like "We can't even trust our own friends?"

Is Nick scolding Judy for basically calling predators "savages" really that extreme? He thought that maybe, just maybe, this rabbit wouldn't think bad of predators and trusted him. Then she turns around, says that his species is dangerous, and then tells him that he "isn't that kind of predator" like he isn't even a fox. Something he is quick to remind her that he is a fox, probably hoping beyond hope that she accepts that part of him and then gets proven wrong.

The press's reaction might have been a little extreme, but they also just saw a fox threaten a bunny, and wanted answers to WHY predators were going savage. If these dozen and a half animals were savage, what's to say the predator friends of prey couldn't go savage too?

>>6126979
Nick was already shocked because of the muzzle pictures, followed by Judy not being able to justify her claims and worsening the situation, things that created an escalation that ended in the ending we already know. He felt betrayed from the first mammal he talked about his past in years. Not that it was completely Judy's fault either, she didn't have a way with the words like him, and the pressure of the conference made her say things she didn't mean.

The journalists were going for the scoop, so they tried the most pressing and a little bit extreme questions.

Paws and arms tend to be difficult for me too. Alec drew this a while back, try practicing on a couple pages with just that.
I think remmy's right arm looks a little, noodle like. Other than that the rest looks great.
As others have pointed out, avo's face is pretty awkward. I'd suggest trimming back the amount of face showing, or even removing the left side. That can look good if you can see it just right. Her tail looks pretty puffy too, but I haven't seen jackal tails.
Charlie looks just perfect. I would've thrown out making the ears a bit bigger but it looks just fine at that size.
Great work! Can't wait to see your next piece.

>she didn't have a way with the words like him, and the pressure of the conference made her say things she didn't mean.

I think the idea that Judy "didn't mean what she said" kind of goes against the whole message of the movie; that everyone, including Judy, has prejudice inside of them.

Judy kept trying to justify her claims and the excuses she gave Nick ("Not like Bunnies can go savage", "you're not like them", "not that kind of predator") show perfectly that at least subconsciously she thought bad of predators. Nick just proved to be an exception at the time, until she saw how badly she messed up the lives of innocent predators. She even admits this at the bridge ("I was Ignorant and smallminded") showing that she has learned to see past her prejudice, but never says "I didn't mean it." She meant ever word before, but now she regrets it and sees just how wrong she was.

Didn't he know that she carried fox repellent the entire time they were together?
I don't think he'd have reason to believe that she was exactly accepting of foxes.

But if he *did* put all his faith in her, I'd have reason to believe he'd put in *much* more than what he did.
She did save his life after all.
I don't know about you, but if I find a complete stranger who's willing to take a bullet for me and I found out he/she was one of those crazy feminazi types,
I would seriously consider quite a few of his/her theories and even - on an extreme case - express guilt for having male privilege.
>>
>>6127230
Yes, sorry, it seems I am not good at communication either.
I concur with everything you said, yes, her words showed what prejudice dwell deep in her. What I wanted to say it she didn't wanted to say that. She didn't want to hurt Nick, she was excited and stressed and blurted out whatever was on her mind. She showed even to herself that she wasn't what she thought to be, that she tried to idealize herself and her personal views in her mind. You are totally correct, sorry for the miscommunication.

Yes, he knew. But he gave her the benefit of the doubt, he put in her much more thrust than he ever did in another mammal.
He trusted her almost completely when she offered to be his partner in the ZPD. However this came crushing down just a moment after, when she said those words.
>>
>>6127365
Like I said before, If some complete stranger picked me up off the streets and helped me get my life back in order, it's going to take more than just some harsh words to break the kind of trust I'd have with them.

Nick being so quick to drop it like he did sorta makes me feel like he might be bipolar or something.
>>
>>6127424
Consider his past: he had two decades of not trusting everyone. Finnick, the one probably closest to him, according to Byron is just a partner in business.
And a bunny you just met two days before, that still carries an anti-fox spray, no matter the help (and for that moment, just before Judy asking him to enter ZPD, it was more Nick that helped Judy) can't delete twenty years of prejudices.
>>
>>6127424
She didn't pick him up off the streets and help him get his life in order. She dragged him along to help her against his will and they became friends. He had only known her for two days at the time of the press conference.
