/tup/ - Tulpa General

...the cultivation of Tulpa is far more than the cultivation and development of a single mental faculty—it is the cultivation and development of our entire mental being—the development of our selves...

>What are tulpas?
A tulpa is an entity created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to your own consciousness. They are able to think, and have their own free will, emotions, and memories. In short, a tulpa is like a sentient person living in your head, separate from you.

It's all down to believing the narrative. Whichever you happen to choose.

I usually step into wl, take a form of my own and picture my body behind. The shell is then free to be animated at will (it's a fun companion to have around), tup takes over control and then linking the wl avatar to the rl body.

It can help to visualise what you would normally be seeing as though it were on a large screen (dark drivein cinema, sweet ride, hot tulpa babes and a movie you all costar for eg).

Hope this helps!

>How has the lovely couple weathered these bitter years?
Fairly well, though we aren't a "couple" anymore. Doc and I have gone back to being friends because I got a qt human bf (who is also an old tulpamancer, go on, guess who he is :3 ). To be honest it was a pretty rough and confusing time... Doc didn't want to stop being in a relationship with me, but he also didn't want to keep me from being happy. At the same time, I didn't know if "leaving" Doc for this new guy, who was clearly interested in me, would actually make me happier, and I didn't want to hurt Doc. In hindsight my relationship with Doc wasn't going anywhere and it got to the point where it was actually holding me back in a lot of ways. There was, essentially, no growth to it anymore. To be honest, it seems like that was so long ago I can't really remember what the deal breaker was, but I know that was a part of it. I think another part of it was the new guy being really convincing about trying a relationship with him, but it's all such a blur, and I never bothered to straighten out my thoughts properly during that time.

But I've honestly got to say that I am happier with the guy I'm with now. He was and still is my best friend, but we're closer now. He visited me for about a week during last summer and it was the most memorable time of my life. Like I can pretty much replay the whole week in my head. It was just amazing, and I'm going to visit him for a little over a week during winter break, which will be even more awesome.

This isn't all to say I've been ignoring Doc or whatever, I still talk to him. However, we mutually decided to cease any active pursuit on progress with him, since going any further simply isn't worth it anymore. We can communicate fine enough and visualization was never an issue, so we're content with this.

Also sorry for the wall of text, I never learn.

You two make a cute pair. I'm really glad it worked out for you both. I'm sure Doc is equally pleased, if a touch green.
Congratulations from us both and all that.

Your chosen path certainly wont be easy but it will be worth it, if experience tells anything.
How's it working out with your own personal advancement in the world? If memory serves you were still uncertain as to what direction in life you might pursue, awaiting results. Where has your journey taken you?

Doc's comfort seems assured. It's down to him now to choose contentment.
A question from Jem to Doc:

>You two make a cute pair.
Is it too obvious who it is? Do you even have to ask? ^^
>I'm sure Doc is equally pleased, if a touch green.
He is. He's happy that I'm happy, but also disappointed that he couldn't be the one to make me happy. But in a way he was.

>Your chosen path certainly wont be easy but it will be worth it, if experience tells anything.
I certainly hope so. A long distance relationship is only slightly less painful than what I had with Doc. It'll be worth it to see him again, though, I'm sure. For what it's worth we've been making it work while we are away.
>Where has your journey taken you?
In terms of school, I'm going to college for Accounting. I'm doing extremely well, and I think Accounting is going to be there for me when I need it, if nothing else works out. I'd still like to keep my options open, though. If a job in art throws itself at me, I'll catch it.
In terms of my new relationship, that has also really opened up a lot for me. I'm going to a new state all on my own with my own money. I have a solid group of friends who I feel comfortable with. Talking to people isn't hard anymore, but me being introverted still means there are times I'd like to spend in quiet or alone. And I can honestly attribute that to being with this new guy. Talking to him (like, actually talking, not just typing) frequently, playing video games, watching movies together online... it's made me feel so much more confident. Not to mention the other... things that have made me feel more confident since he visited me. I'm honestly really comfortable with where I am right now, overall.

>>Now that your host is accepting change and people, have you given thought to seeking a companion of your own?
"Haha, no, not really. I've just been fine with where I'm at. I've never had the urge to be social. Maybe that's a good thing. I'm not going to change my mind, either. At least I don't think. There was never really anyone but her."

Oh, absolutely. I still consult him with a lot of tough decisions, and he's always there for me when I need him. I haven't needed him as much as I once did, but I think that's probably a good thing.

>Don't let little things get you down!
Never ever. Every little problem we've had we talk about with each other. I'm not one to let issues fester and get worse. Like, we've talked about some pretty heavy stuff before but we've always gotten through it. Honestly I can only imagine our relationship ending if we end up wanting drastically different things in life. Other than that, our level of communication is very, very good, to say the least. Admittedly we have avoided talking about certain things, but that's for the best... for now.

>omglolwat4rlrusrsrn?.jif
Haha, yeah, I actually really like it so far. I was scared (and still am, frankly) about not liking it, but what I've been taught about it so far makes it look like one of the easiest most laid back jobs I could possibly go for with that amazing job placement and salary. Plus it's a job that I could have literally anywhere I want so I'm really flexible.
>Art also makes a blissful distraction during lectures.

I'm not sure what you are referring to, but the answer is likely "I don't know," regardless.

>Are you looking after yourself? It seems to me like there's been more than one major lifestyle shift for you.
I always knew you were psychic. Yes, I've actually lost quite a bit of weight. I'm still rather far from my goal, but I look and feel so much better already. I can probably give some credit for that to my bf, too. He's been a great encouragement. We're trying to get fit together (although he has always been in a much better shape than me), and I don't want to disappoint~ I've been needing to change that part of my life for a while now anyway, but I never found the motivation to start. Now that I've started there's not way I'm going to stop. I want to know what I look like fit.

>>J: How's she treating you? I wouldn't like to think there was any cause for friction. Your presence will surely be called upon and it may not always be so easy to discern when the time comes.
"Fine. There's no friction, but I often feel something missing. She feels it, too. It's difficult to go back to the way things used to be after going through all of... that. She wants to, though. And she doesn't want to feel guilty about this whole circumstance. I know there will be a time when I'm needed more than I am now. I've always been patient."

Don't give up. If it's something you want to do, do little bits of it. Imagine your tulpa by your foot -- imagine them smiling. Draw them, or write them, or just talk to them while procrastinating.

I know it's hard to do the things you want to and the things you love, but if you really want to do it, it'll be worth it.

I've never really hugged my tulpa before.
I don't do imposition yet and no visualization either.
How do I hug her? Feels awkward to hug empty space. Do I just wait until imposition is done? Or do I imagine hugging her?

But I don't getgud while shitposting!

Besides, how am I supposed to enjoy this fine blunt if I have to keep coming here telling people how spiritually fulfilling it is to hug your tulpa or how good it feels when at the end of the day your tulpa curls up in your lap and you melt into happiness. The sweet taste of your tulpa's soft lips against your skin, the gentle caress of their hand along shoulders. Can words do justice to the electricity that sweeps through your body when your tulpa combs their fingers through your hair or the sounds of ecstasy when you grab your tulpa and hold her close. The deep tranquillity in their eyes that stills the fires of your demons and soothes the aches of yesterday, flows forth and envelopes you. Your last though is how fortunate you truly are.
>>
Tip/Reminder:

The law of association is your friend. Associate your tup with things you regularly see in day to day life. That way, it will be easy to be reminded of them.

It can be anything, from you tup sharing their skin tone with an acquaintance, to your tup's personality reminding you an animal or an "element" (water, wood, fire, earth, wind). Be creative with it.

So how many dudes do longer meditation sessions rather than passive? Did you have to train yourself to focus, or did it come without much effort?

I started my forcing with meditation years back, but in recent years, I haven't been able to work up my attention span to do it.

>train yourself to focus
This is impossible in the sense that it's impossible to force yourself to focus.
It is something that comes with practice but when meditating the act of putting in effort is contrary to the point.

My best advice is to simply meditate often, in shorter periods at first and regularly. 20 minutes every day for example.

I personally passive force most constantly but at the start hour long meditation sessions before bed were the norm.
It's down to preference but anyone can and should meditate at least a little over the week.
>>
>>6155936

> It is something that comes with practice but when meditating the act of putting in effort is contrary to the point.

So meditation is more floating in and out of being aware of yourself? May have to read up some more on it to properly understand. I'm coming more from a viewpoint where the idea is to force your mind in to submission, but that may exactly why I'm having trouble. now.

No. Meditation is the act of not acting. You don't think. Thoughts will still appear and your job is to not grasp them but instead let them float like leaves away on a wind.
This is why it is said to focus on breathing, from beginners to masters, it helps. You narrow your mind's eye to something simple and keep it rhythmic. That is the most submission you can achieve - mastery over breath.

With time less intrusive thoughts will appear and it will be easier to let them go. Do not be discouraged when you fall. Simply refocus on your breath and continue.

Think of a lake. Every thought a ripple. Your job is to wait until the lake is still and look into the reflection.

Okay sonny, let me sit you down and explain why that's all horseshit.

See, this thread isn't populated. Tup threads in general aren't. There's usually 3 kinds of people.
The old fags who beentheredonethat, the new fags who have no clue and the slightly less new fags who think they run this town.

Now I don't know what kind of setup you guys are running here on /trash/ but let me tell you it's a bad one. The thread is as dead as usual.
In the past the thread has migrated and stayed alive because of the socialising of various oldfags and the general welcoming atmosphere helped bring in newbies.

I'm all for staying on topic. I love staying on topic.
I can see some anon's here also love the topic. That's great!
Those anons, however, are not contributing to the topic. They are lurking like rats and complaining when their thread isn't as they like it.

His point is valid in a situation that this /tup/ thread does not find itself in.
Your righteous crusade will only leave you with an empty church.

On a more... topic related note:
---
Jem took to shapeshifting like a duck to water. I lost my folder of forms but the list had 5-8 'standard' shapes of all species and sizes.

I've also heard of other tulpa choosing to change shape, sometimes on a more permanent basis. Mayhaps their tales can shed light on your own quests.
If people would like to hear stories of 'mancers past, I'd be more than happy to oblige.

Seeing as how I've been away, what does the present company think of the importance of form?
Has your tulpa changed form since you started?
>J: Did anyone let them pick their own?

>Pic related is a trick a good 'mancer friend of mine experimented with, forming a ball in wonderland with dials and controls that he then asked his tulpa to connect to brain functions. >Things like "tiredness", "creativity", "focus", "energy", "hunger" etc
>The idea was that since his tulpa made the connections the internal logic held and he claimed that some manipulations did have a noticeable influence. Even if it was only the placebo effect coming into play the finding is interesting seeing as the placebo effect can be ridiculously overpowered.
>>
I'd weigh in on the topic of people talking in the tulpa thread, but I got all this Autumn to post!
>>
Do you understand the power of Autumn, anons? Does your tulpa understand the power of Autumn?

That last one was serious. Make sure your tup gets to see the Autumn before it turns to Winter. Each season has a unique beauty, and Autumn's one of my favorites.

I actually remember making a post about form before. I've had some struggles and thoughts about the subject, since one of my unexpected additions had a form I wasn't 100% kosher with at the time, and I had to learn to accept it. I'll write more later, but this is what I posted before:

"Forms often come up around these parts, and unfortunately it's often in context of people either complaining about certain forms, or the form simply being seen as something to show off to people. Despite form being ultimately optional, many people put a lot of importance on form, and I've even seen people asking around about what sort of form they should choose for their buddy. This is in no way supposed to be an authoritative comment on what sort of form people should choose, rather it's a suggestion and some musings about forms and their uses to the process.

I feel the most important thing about a form should be its significance to the creator and their creation. It should be something that easily comes to mind and is easily remembered (so the host can be reminded of and speak to their tup as often as possible), and should hold enough emotional weight with the host that they feel a natural pull to commune with the person that form is attached to. This is not to say that the form should be something the host is passionately obsessed with (as such obsession can prove to be short-lived things), but it definitely helps if the form is of something that the host has held dear to a degree for a long time prior. May it be a personal ideal that they still look up to, an old imaginary friend that they find themselves still charmed by, or a character from an old obscure anime that the host feels they're the only one who remembers.

"Tulpa can and at times will change their form once they reach a certain level of ability, of course. This isn't a bad thing at all, and is a sign that they want to play a part in their own development. If this happens, don't be sad about it, or lament the old form, such growth is something to be celebrated. A form should have significance to both parties, after all, and the being and personality of your buddy should hold more clout than whatever the form initially represented. View it as a form of growth for you can yours. Form is only one facet of what a tulpa is.

Fiction-based forms can be useful because it's easy to find references for them (unless your tup is based off of the above mentioned hypothetical old obscure anime, then you may run in to issues and have to fill in blanks yourself). But, and this is a more personal objection, I've never been a fan of the idea of using a tup as an extention of waifu-ism and what not. I have fiction-based tups myself, but I don't use them as a way to further gush over a show I like. In fact, the shows my gals are based on have been slowly fading away from the popular consciousness, and the products of the fandom have been more reminders of my tup, than of the character my tup is based on. But again, this is a personal objection, rather than an objective one. I have it in mind that if one simply uses a tup as an extention to their fan obsession or waifu-ism, the tup will end up the worse for it, or even be discarded like a toy one grows tired of."

Also Autumn man!

Your thoughts are merely chemicals and electronic impulses in your brain

You are nothing compared to the vastness of space

You will die and be forgotten

your sole purpose in life is to exist and procreate

May as well have some fun with an imaginary friend while you are at it, after all, all knoweledge is based on that which we cannot prove

Well I've been lurking here for a while now, and I've been fascinated with the very idea of a tulpa since I first heard about them, mostly because even as a kid escapism was something I went leagues ahead of everyone with, I could daydream for hours, create worlds over the period of a week or longer, keep entire worlds in my head that I could interact with while doing other things. I fairly recently found out that this is an actual thing known as maladaptive daydreaming. But why tulpas sounded so amazing was because they where the solution to my biggest problem, all these characters in my head I hold so dearly, I know im just having puppet conversations with, they never really had sentience unless I was dreaming. Im already good at things like projecting and character creating but my biggest problem is going to be my mind forcefully making my tup respond. Without them doing it. Knowing this, where do I start and how do I not get them to respond?
Also is it a bad idea to base them of an existing character?
>>
>>6174833

This one's a toughie. I know because I've been working on it myself.

It seems to me to be all about not acting. Not extending your will on something, or not thinking anything about the subject other than "they exist". This is far harder than it sounds, especially if you're used to actively imagining things. You may need to spend time just meditating so that you can calm the impulse to control things.
>>
>>6174833
>how do I not get them to respond
I don't really have a good response to the rest of your query, but I will say that you should be careful of how strongly you avoid puppeting. It's fine to try to avoid puppeting a response, but it's also harmful to their development if you force them to not respond just because you fear the response might just be you puppeting them. Essentially, forcing them to not respond is puppeting just as much as making the response yourself.

Basically, you need to interact with them without any expectation on how they will react to it. And when they do react to it, try to trust that it was their doing. You probably won't completely avoid parroting, but as long as you keep it to a minimum it's fine. It might even be beneficial, since it'll help your tulpa learn what kind of things it can do.
>>
>>6174833
>Also is it a bad idea to base them of an existing character?
Top kek, About half of people here have MLP tulpas.
No, it's not a bad idea as long as you make it clear to your tulpa and yourself that they're not that character.
They're just similar because you find them nice.
Put a lot of emphasis on that, otherwise they might develop idenity crisis.

This only happens when you acknowledge that an identity crisis is a bad thing that could happen, though an original form would be better anyways so that your tulpa is unique and has something to be proud about rather than being one of the dozens of twilight sparkle tulpas around.

Guys, as of Friday she's been around for a year. It doesn't feel like that long, but it's interesting to look back on it and see how her personality has developed and how her opinions and views on the world have changed since the early days. She's still the same in a lot of ways, but it feels like she's matured in the past year, and our roles in our relationship have settled in nicely. For those of you who've had your tulips for some time, have they, and/or how have they changed?
>>
>>6182881
First tup over the 6 years she's been around has gone from friendly and a guiding light, to strict and abrasive, then back to friendly again as I've gone through different stages of life and how she felt I needed to be treated to keep on moving. Second tup basically never changed from her peppy and slutty ways, and is coming to be 4 years old soon.
