I'm afraid to say it seems you have depressive personality disorder, as opposed to an episode. Just tell the doctor you think you're facing depression. He'll have seen plenty of people with it. Also keep that link I posted handy. According to it, going through the traditional route makes 70% of patients achieve full remission, and others have partial relief. Just in case you're in the unlucky 30% as I seem to be, keep its less orthodox ideas in mind.

Which reminds me, there's 3 more I can mention that the link doesn't. Two of them are tDCS (microcurrents through your brain) and TMS (magnetism through your brain), the last is custom-ordering drugs that aren't on the market yet. Hopefully it won't come down to these, but still. One such drug is the ketamine the link mentioned. It should be on the market in 2 years, but you could just buy it off a pusher now, funnily enough.

actual horror to me, has something behind it. And not even horror, but when including violence n such, i feel like if theres a significant reason other than 'cause' to something happening, then its actually substantial.

IE: One character killing another. If its just cause they wanna be 'evil' then it kinda comes off as edgy.
If the character has motivation behind it then it has something. IE: revenge for a long series of betrayals, or to survive against something that may kill them.
Even if the motivation is irrational, motivation makes it, if that makes sense.

Like say you have a character, going and burning down a building. You can explain it as 'cause they want to', which is edgy.

Or, maybe the characters losing it? Something recent had caused something inside of them to come out, maybe a repressed violent tendency? Maybe they're losing their mind? Going insane? Thats why they're doing it?

And even then, insanity/mental reasons are hard to get to be 'not edgy'.
