Repost for the new bread, regarding the conversation about fox claws:

The claws of the Red Fox are only partially retractable. They can be lifted up and away from the ground so they're not damaged by running, and can be flexed out and down for hunting and climbing.
They are distinguished from true retractable claws like on felines by the lack of a sheath that encloses the claw while it's withdrawn.
The claws of the Gray Fox are a bit more mobile than those of the Red Fox, and can be withdrawn a little further.
A relaxed Red Fox will show the tips of its claws poking out of the fur on it's paws, while on a Gray Fox they'll be just hidden under the fur in many cases (not all, though).
How much claw shows when the animal is relaxed depends on the animal, and varies - health, age, and diet (yes, diet) can all alter how long the paw fur is and how flexible the joints and ligaments of the claw and toes are (this last point is true for both Gray and Red Foxes). As a result, there's some overlap - you can have a Gray Fox with just as much claw showing while relaxed as their Red cousins, and a Red Fox who's claws are nearly completely hidden when they're relaxed.
Source on all of this - me, an Anon who's worked with, fed, and held foxes IRL (they're really, REALLY skittish and jumpy, by the way).

I don't know about the new domestic breeds - I only handled wild and semi-wild foxes that had been rescued in one fashion or another.

They're in Bunnyburrow, so the Hopps family in this case. Maybe Bonnie or Stu owed Nick's mom a favor and when she discovered she wouldn't be able to take care of him anymore, for whatever reason, she called it in to make sure Nick would be cared for. It likely all happens before the scout incident which is why he's still interested after moving away from the city, and for any number of reasons--Nick's being raised by rabbits so he's "one of the good ones", the kids in Bunnyburrow aren't cunts like the city kids, they're just too scared of Nick to actually try anything--him joining goes smoothly and he's much more optimistic in general.

Until Gideon hurts Judy, that is.

I honestly don't know that much about Finnick's character, but some of the words he used here and how he said them kinda felt weird.
Also, I'm not sure Judy'd continue with the act if she knew Finnick would tell. (Unless that might be a typo?)
Despite that, there does seem to be some potential for Judy and Finnick's chemistry here.

I'm sure a quick runthrough of the text might be able to alleviate most of these problems.

I would assume the scratch Judy receives from Gideon would be worse then it was in the movie, or he did more to rough her up akin to when he pinned her to the ground. She was definitely hurt, it definitely put a bit of a fear of foxes in her life. But at the same time right after that, she gets up with the tickets, proud of what she does and doesn't exactly seem too traumatized from it all.

Plus if the Hopps are the parents you also have to consider that they both have a distrust for foxes. Now I'm not saying they would hate Nick or anything, quite the contrary. I would assume that they love him all the same and treat him mostly like how they would with any of their other kids.

However... They still do have a distrust of foxes. While their actions wouldn't convey that towards Nick, either he could overheard it in a conversation or even after Judy yells out about how foxes are evil, maybe she blurts out her parents told her so and they were right or something, something that would tip him off to that fact. The thought always in the back of his mind that they don't fully 'trust' him, or that they wish he was something other then a fox. Again I do stress that they don't actually treat him any worse, they aren't horrible people. But it would be a thought that could gnaw at the back of his mind.

Hmmm, I suppose that is another option. It makes it much more clear *Why* the two are actually there together.

At the same time I attempt to avoid killing off a character for angst reasons, mostly because I think that has been played out oh so much. I'm not against it quite the contrary I'm a big supporter of angsty/depression shit (I was one of the biggest JHT supporters from the inception and I've got several posts in that original cap that lead up to the greentext). I dunno, I guess I'd feel there would be a slight stigma if it started with 'Bonnie is dead'.

But then that also brings up the issue of how the fuck Nick is there. You make a good proposal to make it work, but at the same time I do like having this cloud over Nick's head that will gnaw at his mind (And probably makes it seem worse then it actually is), and with Judy's actions it's only reinforcing this notion in his mind, further dragging him down more then Judy intended during her outburst.

I like the thought of Nick being this sort of 'outsider' to the whole family, one who inherently doesn't quite 'fit in' with the rest. I wonder if he'd ever have any interactions with Gideon considering I assume he's one of the only foxes around in bunnyburrow around his ages.

I could definitely see him staring at Gideon, wanting to strike at him and beat the shit out of him for what he did. But he never seemed like much of a fighter, and lets be honest Gideon looks physically stronger by a very large marigin. In the first, Bellweather hired Doug's brother to shoot Judy with what he though was just nighthowler, but was in fact a high dose of adrenaline that burst her heart/brain.

Still needs a bit more time to establish solid emotional investment in the characters before feelbombing with them.

Come to think of it.. The concept of manual sexual penetration is something that probably will be rather foreign to most anthropomorphic animal species. In particular, those with claws.
The risk of tearing/scratches and infections is dangerously high with such activities, and the meagre payoff (compared to safer alternatives) probably wouldn't make the ordeal worth it.

Now, introducing a human, on the other hand (*rimshot*) kind of makes things interesting. I wonder if Judy would come (*another rimshotayyy*) around to it.

I miss him so much... We used to have great conversations about his fic in writer's workshop. And he had great stories to tell about his life.

He was making something super cool... I know people in military security, and they're a kooky bunch, wicked funny, and wildly creative.

I hope he's still around.
