Let's be honest. I like the show and the characters - wouldn't write for them if I didn't - but it's always better and more interesting in our minds, right? Most of the characters are one-note, and for an 11-minute comedy series on Nickelodeon, there's nothing wrong with that. But in a fic, you can expand on the source material and make it however you want, using what we already know as a baseline.

Being non-White doesn't stop the Santiagos from turning out better than Clyde . And besides, Clyde was in the show back when it had them all as funny animals.

I say the issue with Clyde is that Lincoln plays off his sisters so much. He already has his younger sisters to play the sidekick. A serious amount of episodes that apparently have Clyde in a major role instead feature another character run the spotlight (like the episode where Lincoln goes to the McBride's for help since his parents are too busy). His trademark quirks don't really help here since they make him what you call a creep. And he has a habit of being not as helpful as he can be. The showrunners don't really know what to do with Clyde.

Well, like the anon above me said, Clyde's big problem is that he doesn't bring anything to the table that his sisters already don't, and he isn't that helpful or interesting or even funny besides. I've said this before, but I feel like if you just scaled back his screentime a bit and completely replaced him with Huey Freeman - a small change, really - he would be totally okay. He wouldn't have his awkward overbearing crush on da white wimmun, he wouldn't be as incompetent or awkward (you think he'd let Chandler get away without a kung-fu beatdown? I don't think so), and he'd provide a different perspective on situations instead of just "black Lincoln!"
