EditAnon here. I'd made an art request quite a while ago - it went unfulfilled, but I wound up mentioning it, and VRBit liked it, and said they'd pass the request on for me, and DID.
So some artist Anon tried their best to draw it, and well shit, now I'm kind of obligated to write the damn thing, since I'd implied such to VRBit, and they were good to their word and some artist gave it a try.
But I edit things - I don't make them.
So the writing... kind of went weird. It took off in this strange direction by itself in a way that I don't really understand, and is not at all what I imagined when I sat down to write it.
Plus, it's only tangentially related to the upcoming TT.
So now I don't really know what to do with it.
I'd actually appreciate suggestions, Anons.

I'm not ashamed of it. I'm... apprehensive. Some time ago a post about a topic I was strongly invested in caused me to make the mistake of opening up a little and letting some RL info slip. I was relentlessly mocked, and I don't relish the idea of that happening again.
It's part of why I edit - there's no judgement there if I brighten the colors of an oversaturated image, or fix the rotation, or make an image shitpost of some snarky text with another Anon's artwork.
But this fic is mine, and it didn't go in the direction I wanted it to, and I'm... concerned about people interpreting what's there as saying things about me.

Mine... turned out weird. I sat down to write one story, about a deer gal who was in the military meeting a civilian cougar and the two of them hitting it off, and it kind of... wrote itself in a different direction and wound up being only vaguely related in the loosest possible way to the TT.
I really didn't know what to do with it at that point, but some Anons wanted a look at it anyway, so I tossed it on Pastebin and crossed my fingers.
I don't know if I'll be able to make anything else for the TT, but I'll likely have a good time editing the various submissions and making up snarky file names.

First thing, I suggest you begin getting more confidence, in yourself and in your writing ability. To tell the truth, I was prepared for anything, even an extremely mediocre piece, seeing how you bashed it yourself, but I was extremely surprised and pleased with what you presented me.

Nothing to say about the text in itself: the vocabulary is more refined and vast compared to many works I have seen, the grammar and the punctuation are correct (from my limited experience).

The story is nice and engaging, nothing too convoluted but not for this trivial. I found no particular idling between one scene and another, you were able to maintain a good rhythm. The characters are interesting and believable and they fit well in the Zootopia universe, for their appearance and behaviour .

It seems your style of writing focus a lot on the details, however you were able to maintain a good division between action and description, resulting in a immersive story with a good pace. I personally enjoy a lot when an author is able to introduce such a level of detail without getting heavy and tiring.

The only feeling I can share with your own self-description is that this has very little to do with the current TT theme. However it would have been a perfect fit for the previous one, Interspecies relations. Maybe if you ask TT anon he can fit it in the Tumblr, even if it is really late.

Hey guys, just a bit of a heads up - I will be away until the end of the month starting next weekend and most likely unable to run TTs during that time.
Conversely, polls, tumblr and the suggestion spreadsheets will not be updated.

I don't have a contingency plan yet, though it appears someone will need to step in for one TT cycle (collecting suggestions & publishing the poll).

TT was designed to be hands-off rather event and is thus easily transferable, so essentially everyone can set up google docs and crewate a poll.

I really don't understand the hate for Jack, considering he is literally a blank slate. The real issue has always been this weird fantasy/fascination with making Nick always having to "work" for Judy's love in some way. Either Nick has to fight through prejudice, Judy's own oblivious nature, or have some rival that is always an OC bunny/Jack (who might as well be an OC) because it goes back to "interspecies vs same-species".

Most stories with Jack in the love triangle his super agent trait doesn't even come into play; you can take his name and his physical description out, replace it, and nothing changes. He is almost always used as a plot device and never as a character; the only stories I can remember Jack being a character is "Dangerous" and "The Hare of the Fox".

I still want a story where Nick and Jack are spy partners.

I know it is a myth but it just makes the whole thing even funnier; as if it wasn't bad enough that the Archduke survived almost all of his assassinations, that he was an idiot who decided to visit an occupied country on one of their biggest holidays (I guess his heart was in the right place but still...), but then he finally got killed because they took a different route. I can understand why. Conflict is at the heart of any good story. Nick and Judy hooking up no problem isn't bad, by any means, but it's going to end up as a short fluff piece, a short smut piece, or have a b plot to provide the obstacles and challenges for them to overcome.

That might actually be where the whole "Nick is emotionally damaged" thing came from. We didn't see what Nick was going through when they separated, so people filled in the gaps by suggesting that Nick was an emotional wreck throughout it all. Combining that with the bullying scene apparently paints a picture of Nick as this fragile dude who can't take care of himself, even though the point of the scene was that Nick grew stronger because of it (it's just that some of his new policies were unhealthy).

Pretty much this; Nick is the one who decided to forgive Judy for what she did. She even said she wouldn't forgive someone who did what she did.

People seem to downplay Judy's actions at the press conference and sort of demonize Nick's reactions afterward. Yes Judy was starting to panic while under the media spotlight, but she didn't just say those things out of the blue. She honestly believed predators were savages, we saw from the Jumbo Pop scene that she instantly thought the worst of foxes despite Nick doing literally nothing to warrent anything. Nick, on the other hand, thought he finally found someone who believed that he was trustworthy only to hear her call his kind savages. His reaction was completely called for, and when Judy hovered over her repellent it only proved his point.

It was truly something else that Nick decided to forgive her after all that AND for the first thing she says when they reunite wasn't a "Sorry" but a "I know what is going on with the savage predators!" You can even see Nick shaking his head when he is walking away under the bridge; he is probably thinking that Judy came back for "the fox's help" rather than being regretful.

If something ever happened between Nick and Judy I can see Nick hurt for a while, but he probably has had his heartbroken before and this would just be another disappointment in his life.

Admittedly, this is more difficult to show in a visual medium such as film where we dont see her through processes. A more obvious way to show that would have been to have her start to say something prejudiced thoughtlessly before stopping herself and apologizing

To be fair, she does go through three months of watching Zootopia tear itself apart and innocent predators being seen as savages. To us it was quick, especially since they don't properly express three months have passed, but to Judy that was quite a bit of time.

Never said it did. I do think it paints him as the sort of person who holds onto to things. Judy, despite her fuckup and biases, is one of the only people to really believe in him and offer him acceptance, something that he's longed for since childhood.

I'm not saying you're wrong; too many authors carry things too far, and I'd love to see more of Judy working for Nick's affection. But the idea isn't innately bad, just overused.
