I have a uniform collection book series somewhere in the library at home, very similar style and same presentation type but different author I think. I can only remember seeing three books that covered "30 year war era in Europe", "Napoleonic era" and "Late 19th early 20th century".

The books usually had a page or two with illustrations and then went on for about 5-20 pages before the next illustration came up. Lots of details in that shit.

For 18th century Persia - "The Sword of Persia: Nader Shah from Tribal Warrior to Conquering Tyrant" (Michael Axworthy).

-David Nicolle, who has done some Osprey books is a pretty reliable author. One of my first books I picked up on the subject was his "God's Warriors: Crusaders, Saracens, and the Battle for Jerusalem". One half is generalistic on crusade armies/generals/ect, the other half covers the Templars and the "Faris" (Arabic for cavalryman, but generally runs the range of free horsemen and Mamluks/Ghulams).

-The books are very old, 1920s-1930s or so, but Harold Lamb is one of my favorite authors. He was a contemporary of Robert E Howard or Lovecraft but was a lot more professional and intelligent though he still did/got started with pulp fiction. His non-fiction writing has this unbelievably sublime mix of narrative storytelling with historical fact. It's not just a dry historical non-fiction tome, but it's also not just straight up storytelling. You want in particular:

-Iron men and Saints (first half of the crusades)
-Flame of Islam (second half, despite the name still pays full attention to Crusaders, just equally also Saladin, Nur Ad-Din and later on that Mamluk guy that beat the mongols)
-March of the Barbarians (Tamerlane and Genghis book) or Tamerlane the Earth Shaker and I'm not sure what the separate book is called but I assume Genghis Khan: Emperor of all men.

He's done other books that are good too, though I wasn't big on his purely narrative storytelling book on a fictional Cossack.

And since I'm bored and waking up still, a few abridged facts regarding the widespread misconceptions:

-Even educated laypersons nowadays tend to understand that the scimitar was not an indigenous feature of the Arabs, and really only emerged in the early medieval period. I can't give a specific date but something like the 800s-900s but it really takes off well afterwards into the 1300s if not later. Originates from the Turks, though the Persians had some early straighter single edged sabers. The swords of the Pre-Islamic and early Islamic Arabs tended towards being gladius like - short, straight, broad. There is an outlier of the swords attested to bedouin auxiliaries used by the Sillykids at that battle vs Rome where they had 6 foot narrow as hell swords. But for the swords of late antiquity and the initial conquests and wars it would have resembled the gladius or spatha more than anything.

-The camel. It is greatly exaggerated in attribution to the Arabs. I cannot say "It was never used in set piece battles", but the overwhelming majority of evidence points to the camel only being used as a logistical beast of burden, a transportation mount I'd compare to a Dragoon or in a way a Humvee or a Blackhawk Helicopter, and certainly as a mount for "all sizzle no steak" razzias by Bedouin. But in use for more stand up set piece battles against outsiders you could count historical instances of it by the Arabs on one hand and the only case I've ever heard of where it was used as a combat mount is a 2nd-3rd century BCE Greek account of a Roman vs Greek battle.

I am ambivalent about making such a sweeping statement because I came across army listings of Neo-Hittite or Aramaean dynasties in the early iron age having large corps of camelry but I can say with certainty it was almost never used by the Arabs as a combat mount.

The Tuareg, I'm yet to read a book on the French Conquest of the Sahara so I can't speak to them but I think it's well documented they did fight from camelback. The Berbers of late antiquity used camels as living fortifications like a kind of wagon-fort. It worked against the mounted Vandals. The Byzantines who faced the same strategy did the novel tactic of dismounting...which then let them pierce the camel-barricade and cause a route.

It seems as though the Blemmey/Beja of the Sudan/Red Sea region did fight from camelback, but it may have been in smaller numbers or less of an interest than fighting from mule/donkey or horseback.

A very well attested practice centuries later into the 1600s-1800s is the use of the Zamburak or Camel-cannon. A small 1lb or so cannon on a swivel mounted on a camel/platform on a camel. It was used extensively by the Iranians (Safavid or Nadershah-Iranian or whatever), Afghans to devastating effect and less so by the Mughals or Marathi.

As for the arabs, their premiere and most celebrated weaponry were generally the spear on horseback, the sword on foot, and the bow a distant third but entirely on foot. Obviously swords were used on horseback and spears on foot, but it's the spear armed Arabian horseman 'fencing' with his lance which is the iconic cavalry martial art. Surprisingly the way of fighting for the early Muhammad and Rashidun era Arabs was almost homeric - a huge emphasis on defensive shield-walls with impromptu fortifications (trench, palisade of sharpened stakes, ect), massed men with the practice of champions drawing forth before battle to issue challenges. Razzias too were an integral part of course but it was mainly for the cavalry - "al-farr wal karr" the furious attack and rapid withdraw repeated.

Cavalry were very rare until they started to acquire more horse plunder or wealth as they beat the Romans and Persians.
