I think he just really strongly prefers that kind of body shape, if that's what he enjoys I don't see any problem drawing it the way he likes even if it's "simplistic to a fault" somehow. It's in that realm in cartoony expansion which is really the point.

True though that his characters all have the same persona, outright prideful or gluttonous or regretful that they got that way.
I like his stuff though.
