Long ago, before civilization, we lived like... well, animals! Life was dictated by the rules of nature: the strong survived, and the weak died off. Life, in the words of the tiger Thomas Hobbes, was 'nasty, brutish and short!' Time was mostly spent moving from place to place to find food-- whether it be plants, or protein.
Then, something amazing happened: a herd of animals- Awassi sheep- settled in an area between two great rivers, where the soil was rich enough to sustain year-round growing! Rather than migrating after the grazing season, they decided to stay in this territory!
This is a transformative moment in mammal history: although animals naturally created burrows and lived in herds, this was an instance of mammals without the instinctual inclination to colonize creating a colony! Its from here that all civilization begins, between two rivers!
You can imange one bright sheep got the idea that one could make a permanent shelter so you don't get eaten in the night. That might seem like common sense, but back when you were constantly moving from place to place it might not even cross your mind. For what would become the first cities life would be cramped as they grew and grew without any sort of plan.
But eventually these camps met a limmit, they didn't have enough food! How would you fix such a problem you may ask. Well we'll have to wait for tomorrow for the answer to your question. I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with sweet.

Which is all about humble wheat! You see the nomads knew about wheat for a long while but never thought much of it. Just another food on the go. But now that they were staying in one area they had to be more careful with their food supply. So whatever was more filling was planted for easier grazing. So within decades of the first villages appearing so did the earliest farms.
But with big fields came the requirements to protect them. Large mammals like buffalo or elephants used to not be able to join the small towns because there wasn't enough food to go around. But with the wheat they joined with villages to protect them. For a price that is, wheat lots and lots of wheat. The best way to pay for this? More farms! So soon the entire valley was filled with farms and civilization.
With the large amounts of grain harvested each year you need better tools and pots to get it all. So soon pottery was being made by the cart full! Which is lovely for the archaeologists because they can sent it to us by the cart full. Today we think the first bread was made in a pottery accident. By accidentally dropping some raw dough, which is still a staple in the mountains of the Himallamas, into a kiln. I like to think the first mammal to eat it must have done it in a dare.

The smaller and physically weak species such as the otters and other small preds either starved or join cities as slaves. It may seem like a bad idea to willingly enslave oneself but it does put food on the table.
Stronger species like tigers or wolves either raided isolated townships or migrated to greener pastures. By greener pastures I mean the untamed wildernesses be it the great steepe or the forests of what is now Gerbly. As many of the predators left the fertile valley, population grew like crazy. And with the huge growth came the first real fights between cities...

There are however two issues with this design which I'm going to have to veto on the candidate's behalf
one is that bunnyburrow isn't actually located there, and misrepresenting the topography of the city and outlying areas is going to send a message that the candidate doesn't even know her own city
two is that frankly, it makes us look unimportant. Nature and its preservation are a huge fundaments of any good campaign but we want to make the city look bigger and more impressive

So once the threat of predators now far behind them. Many cities now started to realize that they could be a lot richer if they took their neighbor's land. Also with the massive population boom they started to needing their land a lot more. And as a result cities started fighting over what they could take.
At first they were small and relatively harmless. A farming family fighting over a patch of land, or a raid here and there. But soon grudges grew to the point of open warfare.
And guess who could fight a lot better than a sheep? If you said somebody like a Tiger you'd be right. Soon preds were back, not as a constant threat but an ally. For a price of course. At first as records show it was only for corpses. But as population grew once more and their bargaining chip increased they started demanding weapons and other fine goods.
Predators were far from accepted but valued none the less a useful tool. What wonders may the coming year bring? Well this is the end of the ancient ages tour. So yo'll have to come back another day. I saw someone offering the (currently) entire run of the english translation of Berserk for about $725+ on ebay. Since the more rare volumes can go for about 60-100 bucks, and it's 37 volumes, it was the most cost effective means to get the series.
I thought that I could wait till I got paid on the first of the month or sign up for Paypal Credit later to get it, but I thought that no one would be willing to drop that much cash on it. Then I noticed it got sold.
So, kicking myself for being lazy and not making a Credit right away to get the collection.

Only one last suggestion if I can: while the whole 'messy' style is interesting, you should still be careful of staying inside the lines with the colouring if you aren't drawing something like fur. For example, going outside is ok for the neck fluff, but you should have stayed a little more inside for the leg part, where the fur is shorter. Will you do something for TT also?

I just finished reading it. The story is interesting, however I have some notes/questions to make.
The beginning. Maybe is a personal preference, but I would have introduced the world some phrases later and I would have focused on the hunt instead. In other words, beginning with the prey point of view, the fear, the hit and here introducing the couple of phrases about the world (Zootopia [...] ground.). Maybe it's only my impression, but putting them there breaks a little too much the tension. Leaving for a moment the reader disoriented like the bunny, not knowing where he/she is, only that it is a dangerous place, seems better from my point of view.
Second note, I liked the behaviour of the characters, but I felt that the use of the word 'enamored' to be... problematic. Be it because it feels a little spoilery, be it because using a word so closely connected to love with someone you are terrified of (and also a little disgusted, if I caught it right), it seems out of place. Maybe it can be replaced by some more neutral words, like charismatic, magnetically attractive and so on.
All in all, a good first chapter. How do you want to proceed? I don't mean spoilers, but I'm curious to know if you'll be focused on the relation between the two or with a little exploration of the world around? For example, I found this AU quite problematic to frame it in a realistic way. How does size difference work? A moose is tens of times bigger than a ferret, however the latter one should be able to hunt the former. And rhinos, hippos and elephants? They're bigger than any predator there. There is some resistance movement among the preys? Obviously these are only ideas.
Eagerly awaiting for the next chapter.

I have a lot of the issues reconciled in my head if I want to push a world that makes sense, but it's really a question of whether the holes are too glaring to allow enjoyment. I sort of want this to be a horrifying, alien place.
Effectively, my thoughts were thus. You have 4 sort of class divisions
"Real" Preds, things like big cats, bears, wolves, the true hunting sort. They're the top of the class structure.
Below them are large prey, the type that are hard to hunt. Moose, elk, elephants, rhinos, so forth, the type that are just not worth the effort of trying to kill. They're upper-middle.
Then "false" preds, stuff like otters, stoats, ferrets as you said. They're middle and lower-middle.
And then "breeding" prey, things like rabbits, rodents, so forth that work low class jobs and are considered expendable.
But in the end, it was difficult to make that world building feel natural, since we're so heavily involved in Alice's perspective that it's difficult to not feel like I'm pulling out of her head to explain lore. So I decided to just go for full horror. "It's shock collars" as Comic put it, I think.
I have a solid plan going forward that will bring to light primarily why prey stay in such a society. Alice's story is outlined to conclusion.
Maybe if I feel like writing more with the world as a whole I can focus on worldbuilding, but right now I have this one particular story that I want to tell to conclusion, and I'll see where I go from there.
And thanks for the small comments about the story itself, I have been doing small revisions here and there.

Interesting. The class division is certainly more realistic than the net separation pred/prey.
Even more interesting the idea of narrating the whole story from Alice's pow. Not an easy task, as a writer you need to put yourself in the clothes of character, what she want, what she knows. Letting your character imprint herself onto you instead of the usual opposite. Losing the power of the omniscient narrator.

I love writing in limited perspective. I'm not great at it, but it's easily my favorite. All the fun of first person, with less chance of fucking it up horribly.
But yeah, that divide is what I wanted to illustrate by having the elk and moose chatting casually with Gabriel while they cleaned his mess, and having a larger prey as the implied owner of a high class restaurant. I havent quite had the opportunity to show the standing of "lesser" preds yet, but it'll come.
Glad you're interested, because I'm loving the hell out of what I'm writing, and I want others to enjoy it too.
