1) People try to go for varied species. Bunnies, foxes & wolves still make the majority of characters, but if someone is making a character cast (ex: Pack Street, Labjer's characters, etc) they're generally not going to have more than maybe two animals of the same specie - and generally they'll be siblings - as to not be too boring.

2) I guess part of the fun of the Zootopia universe is precisely that interspecie relationships are possible. The opposite would just be two animals of the same size, with the same characteristics, etc, and that's kinda boring in a way.

3) We tend to ship characters who have contrasting personalities, and we tend to use a character's specie as a representation of the personality somehow.

I personally wouldn't want to make a bunch of animals that are the same species, for example. The only exceptions are family members to those characters, but that'd be incest (which it seems some people are down with that).

It's not something I'd ever want to happen IRL, but I have a ton of brain problems that make basic parts of life impossible. I can almost never trust myself or my perception of the world. The idea I had was that rabbits are seen as not being able to integrate and function properly in modern society.

Considering Judy grew up on a farm, she is probably used to waking up early. It was still dark when she left to work in the morning during the movie, and I'd like to think she took that time to explore Zootopia on her way to the ZPD.

Nick is a mixed bag for me, because the information we get about him contradicts sometimes. The studio has stated that Nick's attire (the untucked shirt and loose tie) shows a laziness to him, yet he seems to be a con-man constantly at work and knows everyone in the city. You don't get 200$ a day and know an entire city by being lazy. So I'd like to think Nick has no trouble getting up in the morning, maybe a blast of a cold shower as you said.

Side thought that has nothing to do with waking up; since Judy entered the ZPD academy at 24, she most likely got a degree of some kind, maybe a Masters. Do you think she got it for the ZPD academy requirements or that she had to get it for the Mammal Inclusion Initiative? Lionheart mentions that Judy is the first officer via MII, not just the first rabbit officer. So either the MII is extremely new, which must have sucked for Judy for a few years until it wa announced, or it has extremely high requirements.
