I very much feel the same, I was never that on board with the story when it first started after Nick was just portrayed as a boring sad cop and nothing really happened to add to the story. Then at the end, instead of having something like Nick bonding with July and expressing his regret to her in order to get some catharsis, he just has a dream and talks to a ghost and now everything will be fine.

I get that mead put a lot of work into things but that sort of dull plot totally killed it for me.

What a lot of people seem to forget the story is about coping with emotional isolation, feeling of loss and longing.

While terror attack didn't really make sense logic-wise, from the narrative point of view there needed to be a climatic event which put the current events in motion. While execution could have been better plot-wise, it's rather unimportant what actually transpired, at leat for me personally.

An old quote comes to mind "we think too much and feel too little".

Oh well, it's been a nice ride. Looking forward for the epilogue. I'm a bit anxious there won't be a story as deep as this anymore from anyone else, but let's see what future brings.
