His animations are cute and simple, even if they're just crudely tweened flash animations. People seem to be willing to overlook their other faults just because animation is so rare in furry art.

His actual artwork is pretty bland. His perspective and sense of form is shit, his poses are stiff, his anatomy is mediocre, he uses symbol drawing everywhere, he abuses the hell out of line smoothing/the pen tool, he shows no knowledge of line weight, his shading is simplistic, and there's possibly some other issues I'm not noticing right now. His work is just very amateurish and shows that he has never bothered to learn the fundamentals of drawing.

A lot of people aren't there to break it down that much. They just go "Oh this character is cute/makes me hard" then they possibly jack off and leave it at that.

A decent portion of his animations feature suggested but not explicit depictions of popular characters.

He was doing something that was similar enough to other artists to get exposure, but unique enough to stand out, while having just enough skill to not scare a large portion of his audience away.

Being an actually good artist isn't really enough to become popular and isn't strictly necessary.

This is kind of true. I've had my own hastily drawn black and white doodles get hundreds of likes while art that has had actual work put into it barely gets noticed. A large part of popularity just comes down to having mass appeal, connecting with the right people, and often just getting lucky.

Art has no need to be as technically complete as possible, especially when it comes to amateur art that has no need to stand up against professional artists.
If all that decided a picture was good or not was only technical skill, only the absolute best artists would get any recognition and praise, and this is obviously not what happens. And it's not because every single person on the internet is wrong, but because art can be good regardless of technical skill shown.
Alfa's art is simple, it focuses on big eyes and expressions, generally with the intent of looking cute, and it achieves that well. If it already does what it has set out to do there's no need to change it drastically. Art from animations in general is often more simplified too.
I'm not advocating complacency, it's really good to draw things that are way out of your comfort zone, dynamic and dramatic poses, crazy architecture, landscapes and hell even trying to represent a feeling or sensation with abstract art. But none of us need to do our absolute 100% best all the time.
