The answer is probably just a matter of when the scene happened. They didn't show the audience the size differences between mammals properly until later. Like the kid elephant in the ice cream parlour, who's bigger than Nick and Judy.

I also liked that ending. You know dressanon, I think it shouldn't be hard for anyone to ask for help when they need it. Easy to say I know, but I often write myself into corners as well.
