I agree from a realistic standpoint, but it's less nonsense because the writers are dumb and made it that way.

i.e. The writers made Pyrrha like Jaune so Arkos is less nonsense self-insert than other Jaune ships, because no one else would be (or is) interested in him. Within the canon Lancaster/White Knight/Knightshade make less sense than Arkos, because those girls weren't written into liking him.

Because the idea as described in the letter was that it was supposed to be as a major point of character development for Jaune.

People keep focusing on the Jaune caused Pyrrha's death and now didn't part and not on the fact that it described Pyrrha as being the invincible, flawless figure, whose death was supposed to teach Jaune a lesson.

Her breakdown didn't seem to be there. The lesson seems to be kind of pointless considering the characters involved and it really just sounded like a cool story beat Monty wanted in for the darkness and feels.

It would actually lead to more Jaune screentime.

The only thing to be taken away from in the letter was that a lot of what Monty wanted, was utterly retarded. It really seems like Pyrrha was only killed off because photographic evidence of it existed before hand.

You need to understand how bad it was.
Characters getting whole arcs isn't that bad, exploring a characters backstory and personality is great. But the Jaune arc's were bad because it brought the story to a dead stop to go hang out with what otherwise would've just been some secondary character. There was no plot, no progression of the story at whole. When Yang gets screentime devoted to her and her mommy issues, it's okay because Raven is obviously a major player in the plot and said plotline is connected to other major players, like Qrow. When Blake and Weiss have their White Fang faunus shit going on, that's okay because that still progresses the plot. Ruby doesn't even have an existence outside of the plot. But Jaune as his waifu pillow don't have that, his arcs were devoted to him, his romantic interests, and his ability to fight/lead. It's like cutting away from the actual show to a mediocre slice of life spin off.

Volume three was an improvement, in that had do something, anything to actually make Pyrrha into an actual character so she would actually be worth killing off

They hyped up the Grimm to be scary, only for in v2 to more or less make them nothing more than cannon fodder to a fucking dog

If they sat down and gave us some devastation/loss due to the Grimm, and the complete toll it has on a society, it would have been much more effective for us an audience to fear them, at least, before V3 Cliffnotes'd it all in the end.
