I mean, its only a little more than a half an hour long, and I've definitely made a recording on the site longer than that. I guess this is because its a WAV file or something?

This was super fun, but also super time consuming! I hope as I keep doing it, I'll get faster at it.

I tried to make sure this would be both entertaining and useful, not just for the author, but for anyone listening to it. The audio begins with a general statement, and then goes into a complete audio reading WITHOUT commentary, and ends with a more detailed critique. If you want to listen to the story, or want to perhaps learn a few tips that might help you write, you can find both here!

Every proclamation of "SAD NICK UPDATE" I've seen so far has been totally legit

I think I'm really getting pissed off at Sad Nick right now. The story is fine, even if it is taking it's sweet ass time, but these short chapters are killing me.

Maybe it's because Sad Judy was actually a nice somewhat lengthy oneshot, but Sad Nick reads like it's being written by someone with a different writing style.

I'd be okay with the current chapter lengths if the updates were more frequent, but with the wait times as they are, FriteWag might as well take a bit longer and make them at least double the length as they are.

Absolutely!

AWS offers a free tier for one year. You get a T2.micro and can screw around with Cloud Formation (super-awesome to know if you like rolling around in cash) for free with it.

Honestly, unless you're spinning up wads of M3 instances, AWS is dirt-cheap to explore on your own. There's a shit-ton of documentation out there for how to do things and underlying theory. Put aside $20 a month and go nuts setting up VPCs; play with ELBs; mess around with auto-scaling (another good skillset that's super-easy and way hella in demand); set up some S3 buckets and store your files out there; understand how AIM works with policies and groups (FREE! FREE! FREE!); work with Lamba functions (FREE!) and, as always, TRY EVERYTHING!

I'm sorry you failed your class, but you've probably already learned enough AWS to make you totally salable in today's market. AWS is totally ground-floor tech right now like the web was back in the mid-90s. The barriers to get in are really low and the pay is really high.

I've got an alt version based off what happened to my uncle

Mr. Wilde does come into Nick's life after nearly drinking himself to death; doctors were able to save him from the brink of liver failure. A week goes by, he is accepting of Judy, everything is great.

That night Nick gets a phone call; it's his dad, crying and telling him how proud he is of him. As soon as he hears his voice, Nick thinks "He's dead. I'm talking to a dead man." He's been drinking, binging. Nick tries to get a word in, but his dad ends up hanging up on him, doesn't answer any of Nick's calls. He went into the hospital for liver failure and died of organ failure.
