What's the deal with Japan and its obsession with mascots? Having one for a sports team is understandable but towns themselves have them, companies have them, they're all over the place there.

For a company, it doesnt seem that strange, lots of brands have something like tony the tiger or spuds mackenzie.

The towns having them is weird, but the people who make those calls, aren't the ones paying. I guess it makes sense in the way of having a state flower or something, but I think one mayor thought it would be a great a idea, then the next decided that if that town gets one, then they should get one too.

This chat went into an interesting direction. I think I'd be okay with a hug and a picture taken with Bell and Polly respectfully. Also, it would be neat to have something signed by both of them. I think all of these are pretty reasonable things to want and I feel bad for you guys that really want a dinner date and the more in depth stuff that seems pretty unrealistic unless you are seriously rolling in dough. As for the people under the suits, they must have a backup actor or extremely good health insurance for being a mascot performer. I guess the reason is that it probably makes her a little uncomfortable to be hugging someone who might be really into it sexually. It's kind of a normal reaction to be reluctant to sexual perversion even though that may seem a foreign concept to those of us in /trash/, 4chan, and the internet in general. Even through a suit I guess it feels like an invasion of their personal space and an unwanted touch. I also agree they should accept it as their job but I don't make the rules.
