Nick and Judy go to the annual ZPD vs. ZFD charity game. Judy drinks four margaritas because she thinks they're light girly drinks. By the third inning, she's jeering the ZFD players and chucking peanuts (and D-cells) at them. Nick tries to get her to quiet down, but the day is hot, the beer is flowing and tempers are rising. Finally, after the fifth howl joke told by the ZFD, pitcher Fangmeyer lines a bean-ball right into the skull of Chief Langford, who drops like the sack of shit he is. Benches clear, fists fly, teeth are bared and little Judy Hopps, sweetheart of Zootopia, screams "FUCK YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" and leaps out of her seat to join the scrum.

Meanwhile, Nick horks up seven beers and swears he's never watching another baseball game as long as he lives.

It's about 1970s baseball when things were utterly bugnuts crazy and one sports reporter's journey with the worst team of that decade. Impressions: It's very cute! The internal narration is comfy and helps us understand the characters efficiently, writing and syntax are very solid, word choice and descriptions great so far.
The first part is a little confusing because it's not clear WHERE they are. Are they just walking down the street? None of the scenes establish location or setting very well, which should usually be right off the bat unless you're going for something experimental.
Shepard doesn't strike me as a public displays of affection kind of guy. I'm not sure he'd even make such lewd suggestions in private, as he comes off as so shy and even a bit meek to be treading that ground. If he's trying to keep a low profile, I wonder about french kissing in public.
I do love the little personality quirks you've thrown in though, and the idea of them having established interactions, like her pawing at his broad chest when she wants him to stoop down, really helps flesh out their relationship in my mind. Makes the characters feel more real.

Wolford and Fangmeyer make a good contrast to the Dawn/Shep introduction section. Establishing a unique voice for the characters is crucial in a fic like this and your work in making them "sound" and think so differently is off to a good start. They're cute together, definitely.
Minor nitpick but the Carrot Days line feels too expository, maybe just drop the "in BunnyBurrow" part, because where else would it be, and also if they were there together it's not like he needs to explain it.

Judy strikes me as a little too anal-retentive at the start. She's confident and composed but I wouldn't call her a worrywort or the type to run down checklists 15 times. I get that it's supposed to be her channeling her unease about taking a day off (Judy on Duty, after all), but it's a bit weird to see her being so neurotic.

Overall it's a great start and the characterization is definitely the strong point and what you should focus on. Looking forward to more.

I love books written by reporters. It's what I aspire to be. I'm a reporter, I've got some published creative works, but not a book. I'm too young to have any life experiences like that. But god damn I think I'm really cutting my teeth here
