I like Mae the best because I can relate (sort of) to what she's going through.
I especially like the dream sequence where you're beating up things and then destroy the giant statue that taunted Mae when she was at college. I feels like there's so much meaning and depth hidden in that one moment.
Didn't really like the music all that much, which is strange before I'm usually more picky. But I was concentrating too hard on acing the band practices to pay attention to the music and everything else faded into the background when I was playing the rest of it.

Endings: I've played through Gregg and Bea's routes.
Characters: It's a hard decision. The main cast is sympathetic but very rough around the edges, given their neurotic hangups. That's a great part of the game for me, though. I'd probably stick with Bea. She works hard and I got over my crazy-boy bullshit years ago.
Scene: Stargazing with Angus. I felt it helped tie in the themes of the game: finding meaning while working with limited perspectives and vocabularies.
Music: Hard to say. I didn't pay too much attention to it.

I suspect it's mainly seen as "in the most vague way" because of Mae's limited vocabulary. In this sense, she is aware of what's going on, but finding the words--articulation--is a different story. For example, when elaborating on her dissociation incident she cited examples of losing touch with a video game and a tree she was fond of. Were those really the only things she lost? Hell no. They were metaphors: abstract, poetic personifications to stand in for direct, formal speech. She just doesn't know how to articulate the weird shit going on to others, and even then it would be embarrassing to do so in most situations.

The thing is that we are only given her word for things and she is still struggling to find those words: a theme portrayed very well with the 'shapes' analogies and stargazing in general.
This was another thing about NitW I really liked, the mental illness aspect was done really well in Mae's ability (or lack of) to really explain what's happening to her (as well as the eldritch allusions). I understand if my babbling doesn't convince you otherwise, though.

I didn't go with Bea until the second run, but I agree completely. Bea was more fulfilling not only as a foil for Mae, but she was also a challenge.
I think her path also allows more of a spectrum of characteristics for the player to relate to. Some see things through Mae's naive-but-caring and direct approach, while others see Bea's pragmatism with defeatist undertones (but hey, it's not like I'd just leave my dad either).
That "You can always choose," decision was great too. Shit was tense as fuck. I also messed up that dinner.

I was super obsessed with it back when these generals started, and posted in these threads for a few months. Honestly, I'm surprised this general even still exists. While I loved it at the time, removed from all of the hype, I merely like it.

It's a decent experience, but not a decent game. There's not a lot of gameplay. You mainly just walk around and talk to people, which is great if you actually like the characters, which I did. But the narrative is loosely held together and the resolution is lackluster.

It probably won't go on sell for a while, since the creators are greedy cunts, so it's up to you.

I enjoyed it. Similar to >>11520823 , except I guess it depends on how you define a game. There are decisions in dialogue, but they act as more of a device to teach the player that you are limited by Mae's perspective and that, while you have choice, you also have limitations.
I agree the narrative is loose but the core themes are pretty well crafted, and even in the narrative itself I like that there are little things that can change the context of the story if you notice them. I'd argue the end fits in decently, but you kind of have to see it as a short story than a conventional game.
If you like subversive undertale-esque stuff but apply it more to Clerks or Flannery O' Connor stories than self-enclosed video game commentary, than you'll like it.

Mae really needs someone who can both keep up with her and for her to anchor herself to. Obviously she would have gotten with Casey had he not been tossed to the BG.

Bea is a pretty sturdy person and Mae can provide Bea with a way to cut loose, but I don't think a romantic relationship would be good for either of them.
Selmers would probably be the best candidate, but I'm doubtful if Mae can really provide her with anything other than a bad influence. I'm not saying she'd encourage Selmers to do drugs, but Mae has a tendency to draw out people's inhibitions. For a recovering addict that isn't a good thing. On top of that she doesn't have a job and it's gonna be hard to find someone to hire her when she was fired for stealing from the last job.
Danny is far too fickle to put up with Mae for any extended amount of time.
Germ and Mae seem to click well, but he is a bit immature and I'm not sure he is even capable of romance. Also he can't really provide for Mae financially.
Lori would be good if she were legal. She seems to be hard working if it is something she is passionate about and she connects to Mae better than most people. But that would kind of be weird going from a sisterly to romantic relationship especially with the gap in their age.
Angus would probably be a poor fit. He would work well as an anchor and she could get him to loosen up a bit, but I feel like she would bring a lot of the same problems Gregg does. Minus the what little maturity Gregg has.
Gregg can obviously keep up with her, but like it says in the game she kind of brings out his bad side.
Jackie hates her, Doe is vapid and Bombshell is a complete wild card.
For the hell of it Karen would be an interesting possibility. She has the maturity Mae needs and they connect well, but the age gap is a bit much and I'm not sure Mae would bring much to the table for her.
